I will say - it’s not like the mask mandate has been enforced here. My guess is that the people who have been wearing masks will keep doing so, and those who haven’t been aren’t going to start. Those who have been avoiding crowds will keep avoiding crowds. There’s been nothing about Texas’ rules that kept anyone from doing as they pleased before so, SSDD? I tend to agree with you. But, my parents are elderly and they are always so confused because things change too quickly. Also, they are being fed a lot of disinformation and I have to constantly re-explain things to them. It's exhausting sometimes but I'm happy to do it since it keeps them safe. I worry for the people (not just elderly) who are just as confused and are at risk. This is so reckless Abbott.

Political pressure. Trying to deflect some of the heat he’s gotten over the power debacle. I notice he didn’t say whether schools will still be allowed to mandate masks. Ft Bend ISD has already issued a statement that masks will be required at all school activities

i think this is partly a PR move in light of the bad publicity he got in handling the recent severe weather.

What exactly are the antibody therapeutic drugs that are available prevent hospitalizations that Abbott mentions? Are they widely available? Available for children also?
13% of Texans have had one vaccine dose. And only those in group 1A or group 1B are actually eligible. Although, I know people who have scavenged to get them outside of those groups.
This is so so disappointing.
I’m personally vaccinated but still very cautious out of a duty to my community, and I have younger children who won’t be vaccinated for awhile. I’m not sure what this no mask order means to us. So, I can’t take my kids anywhere? Or are we saying that kids are just going to get it and we will just let them.

Businesses can still require it, so you could take your kids places you know require masks, like museums.

Our district just issued a statement saying that all current safety protocols are still in place and are waiting to hear from health authorities and TEA before they will consider any changes.

Our district just issued a statement saying that all current safety protocols are still in place and are waiting to hear from health authorities and TEA before they will consider any changes. My district just sent the same message. I’m so glad and hope our stupid TEA doesn’t make districts lift the mask order. DH and I will get our 2nd shot on the 19th. I’m so thankful, but still scared for all my other fellow teachers if they lift the order. We’ve already had one teacher die and another is in the hospital on a vent right now. A teacher at my school in her 20’s now wears a hearing aid in both ears because Covid damaged her hearing permanently. I just don’t understand why we couldn’t hold off until summer. Wait until a higher percentage of the population has had an opportunity to get vaccinated.

I just don't understand why we can't buckle down just a little longer until more people are vaccinated and we have more info on the other variants. I'm disappointed for sure.

Got my second dose today . I will still wear my mask regardless of what Gov. Abbot says about masks. I do know that that those in the teaching professions can sign up through the Harris County Public Health site for the vaccine. I help. Friend do it this weekend and she was notified of an available vaccine and to set an appointment this morning.

I also expect more States to follow suit. I wonder if it’s to thumb their noses at the Biden administration, to show them who is really in charge. We’re not even to the halfway point of Biden’s request that Americans mask for 100 days.

Iowa dropped the mask mandate in early February. I do still see quite a few people wearing masks inside stores, etc. Cases are dropping and the rate is going down quickly. My county has 8 cases currently. I am hearing of many getting the vaccine, and I truly hope that it works. I'm hoping by mid-summer it is OVER! I know that is quite wishful thinking, but things are looking good in my area.

Ft Bend ISD has already issued a statement that masks will be required at all school activities So has HISD, but I guarantee there are right wing parent groups preparing to challenge that in court right now. And of course TEA will cave and leave districts swinging in the wind.

State mandate was lifted, but there are still city mandates in ND. It’s interesting I’ve been in Minot and Fargo in the last week, and the mask use in all places we went was really high. The idiot GOP legislature here just put forth a bill in the house refusing to allow state mask mandates in future. They were unhappy the governor could do it by executive order and that he’s kept us in a state of emergency through this pandemic without consulting them. Like this isn’t one? They truly are the party that celebrates ignorant moronic thinking.

I get my 2nd dose next week. My husband is fully vaccinated. We will continue to wear a mask. My facebook feed is filled with praise for Abbott. Blech.
Our school district said their current safety measures will remain in effect until March 12 (the start of spring break) then they will give further directive about returning to school after spring break. Again, my facebook feed is filled with people yelling to unmask our children.
It makes me sad and furious. Why can't we wait just a little longer. Most of the people I know were wearing a mask even though they didn't like it because it was mandated. Now they won't.

Oh crap, how many other states will follow along. Well, I live in a state that has never even HAD a mask mandate. (Missouri) Some counties have, but not mine.

Biden announced today that every adult who wants a vaccine should be able to get one by end of May. I think we need to stay safe and wear masks until at least then. Then re-evaluate—look at the cases, deaths, and percentage who are vaccinated. Kids still won’t be able to get vaccine for awhile.

New Hampshire was late to the mask mandate game. Ours didn’t start until Nov 20 and was initially only until early January. Our Republican governor did extend it to March 26. So sorry for all of those that live in areas where they are not following the science. Fauci & the CDC just said we need to stay vigilant and can’t let down our guard. The measures in place are working, cases are going down. If we could just stick with it a little longer, we would all be better off. Sorry this is CNN, couldn’t find a more neutral source www.cnn.com/2021/02/28/health/us-coronavirus-sunday/index.html

It’s not like movie actors and sports figures have been wearing them. Or politicians for that matter. What’s the big deal. Finally a smart state. This ridiculousness needs to end.

This ridiculousness isn’t going to end anytime soon with 65,000 - 70,000 new cases per day. Masks work, it’s as simple that. Honestly, people who aren’t willing to put up with the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask are just selfish. The last year has clearly shown that politicians are not good role models and we should not follow their lead. Who cares what actors do or don’t do, they’re not exactly good role models, either. Athletes (and politicians) are being tested on a regular basis, the general public is not.

It has been a number of years since I have thought “damn I am glad to be from Indiana” but today I will go with that. A Republican governor who believes in science and is making sound pandemic decisions (despite getting heat from his own party 🙄), a mask mandate still in place, and what has been a very smooth vaccine rollout by all accounts. We got news today that the next eligible group is up for vaccines and at this rate DH should be able to get vaccinated this month which will relieve a lot of stress in our household. And the sun is actually shining here today, it really has been a great day so far 🤞🏻 Sounds like PA! We have a smart governor who cares about us and continues to require masks. And it was actually sunny today (which you can hardly ever say in southwestern PA).

I expect other states to enact quarantine for travelers to Texas. PA just lifted travel restrictions yesterday. I hope they now require travelers from and to Texas and other states that don't have mask mandates to test negative and/or quarantine upon arrival to PA.

I agree, and I will happily wear masks to protect those under 16 who can't be vaccinated yet. Once all ages can get their vaccine (meaning the can actually go to a facility and get the vaccine, no wait, etc.) I will welcome no mask requirement.

cindosha.. so you don't know any doctors dealing with this? or had friends die? I have. follow the science, and wear a mask..not for you but for the people around you though sounds like you are putting yourself and your comfort above others.
