It’s not like movie actors and sports figures have been wearing them. Or politicians for that matter. What’s the big deal. Finally a smart state. This ridiculousness needs to end. This ridiculousness isn’t going to end anytime soon with 65,000 - 70,000 new cases per day. Masks work, it’s as simple that. Honestly, people who aren’t willing to put up with the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask are just selfish. The last year has clearly shown that politicians are not good role models and we should not follow their lead. Who cares what actors do or don’t do, they’re not exactly good role models, either. Athletes (and politicians) are being tested on a regular basis, the general public is not.

Things are looking much better than they did in November and December, but in reality we are about where we were at in late summer. It's not like the virus has disappeared or there are no more risks at this point. It is not the time to get complacent and act like we aren't in a pandemic and things could take a turn for the worse at any time.

Clearly masks DON’T work or we wouldn’t have that many cases and all the surges. Clearly, it’s OK for athletes, movie actors and politicians to waste taxpayers dollars on getting tested all the time. Not!! Athletes aren’t social distancing nor are movie actors while they’re making their movies. And if you think they haven’t made movies in the last year, you’re kidding yourself. People eating in restaurants don’t wear masks. Do you really think that the newscasters sitting two chair seats away from each other are not spreading their germs??? It’s all illogical stupidity. Scientists and doctors can’t even agree on whether or not masks work or not. It all depends on what you read and what you believe. How are people that wear masks all the time getting it if masks are so effective? Clearly, it’s not going to matter if Texas stops wearing masks, everyone should. FFS, science can’t even agree on whether or not these vaccines are actually going to keep people from getting Covid. Or whether people that have already had Covid can get it again or spread it to somebody else or if they even need to be vaccinated.

Your post contains a lot of inaccurate information and flawed assumptions/ conclusions. I don't even know where to start. Athletes are NOT being tested at the expense of taxpayers. Again, who cares what actors or athletes are doing or not doing? The number of new cases of covid depends on a lot of variables, not just mask wearing. High numbers of COVID cases do not prove that masks do not work. Numbers could potentially be much higher without masks. Show me a peer reviewed study that shows masks don't work. Here are some that show the effectiveness jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2776536www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118The vaccines are new, its not surprising that they don't have enough data on the potential spread of COVID after vaccination. The questions about masks are completely different from information and the effectiveness of masks.

Iowa dropped its mask mandate almost a month ago, but most places still require a mask. Distancing requirements were also dropped, but again, a lot of places are still requiring some sort of distancing. All school districts were required to offer a 5 day in-person option as of 2/15, most districts dropped Hybrid to make that happen (virtual is still required as an option too). That mostly affected metro area schools as most districts outside of urban areas have been 5 day in-person all year.
Since that all started, positive case numbers remain anywhere from 200-700 a day for the entire state--according to our school district's Covid dashboard the state is at an average of 95.91 positive cases per 100,000 people in the past 7 days and a 6% positivity rate for the past 7 days (but I usually see closer to 4% elsewhere).
State wrestling was two weeks ago, Girls state basketball is this week and Boys is next week, even with limited crowds in the arena it will be interesting to see what happens to the numbers (if anything).

Clearly masks DON’T work or we wouldn’t have that many cases and all the surges. We had the surges in November and December partly because people were gathering in private homes to celebrate the holidays, not social distancing and not wearing masks.

Do you believe other countries numbers of reported deaths? excluding Russia and China, do you believe the numbers for other countries in Europe or Australia? What would be the motivation for the CDC to over exaggerate the number of COVID deaths? Even if you believe the crazy conspiracy theory that the CDC was lying to hurt Trump in the election, why would the CDC lie now that Biden is president? Unless you also believe the crazy conspiracy that Trump will be president in a few days?

Premature IMO. I’m not surprised Texas is doing it, but I would think they would have waited or given a goal as having a certain percentage of their population vaccinated.

A friend who moved to Texas who I haven’t seen in years died from COVID this week. To have someone act like that isn’t real is so insulting that I can honestly barely contain my rage.

Although, she *might* be trolling for outrage with this post, this isn’t the first time she’s made vile comments in this vein. I’m also sure I remember her from the old board. She’s just one of the conservative peas that have been scarce. 😐

Between Abbott being in everyone's bad graces due to the state power grid less than five minutes from an immense disaster and today being Texas Independence Day, I should not have expected any better. Just another Texas republican politician with an ambitious gleam in his eye.

I suggested in the comments on a Texas news site page that it would be a lot more fair if only the anti-maskers died as a result of their selfishness, and not lots of other innocent people.
A Covid Karen got all upset and said she was going to file a complaint with my district.
I’m trembling, I tell you. Just trembling with fear. 😂😂😂 Bitch can suck it.

A half a million people in this country are dead. Shame on you. and maybe someday we will all get the truth about how many people truly died from covid and not how many people they WANT us to believe died from covid. Shame on you!!!! I am sorry that you do not believe in your state leaders, healthcare workers, and the other people in your state trying to keep you and the other residents safe. I feel really bad for those that have no confidence in their state officials. I am also sorry that so many of the people of in your state have no empathy or real community spirit which makes them willingly want to keep as many people as safe as possible...even if it is only 1% of the population or less. In my state we do understand that no matter what % of people die, it is people who are loved and cherished and shouldn’t be given up to death because we don’t want to wear a mask or socially distance. I guess we all have to live with our choices and hope that we don’t kill someone because of our choices. My state has a pretty strict mask mandate and people, for the most part, are adhering to it along with the other safe guards put in place to save the lives of those most vulnerable to this virus. We are a state that has an older population and yet we were still able to keep our deaths down to 33 per 100,000 while Texas is 152 per 100,000. And our positivity rate to 1.3% while Texas is at 13.5%. While I am sure there are many factors that play into these numbers, I will say people adhering to the guidelines and believing in the science (and understanding that this is new and guidelines will change as we learn more) is probably our greatest strength. I am pretty proud of my state and the people who live here. There has been a lot of selflessness and wanting to do what is right for the greater good. Luckily those with your attitude are few.

Girl I really, really wish I could have taken your through a day in the hospital with me through our peak waves. You want to see people die in front of your eyes before you'll believe it? You're ridiculous. I probably shouldn't even have dignified this with a response but when I think about how bad we had it LET ALONE the ICU that had it ten times worse than we did, it just makes me angry to read such asinine comments from people who literally have no idea. Refrigerated trucks because the morgue is full. ICUs being carved out of former rehab and oncology floors. Turning gymnasiums and endoscopy suites into patient care areas. Shipping people off to satellite hospitals just to make room for the critical ones. 40% positivity rates. People waiting for other people to die to get the necessary bipap and vapotherm because you don't want them on a vent if you can help it--they may never come off--and sadly, they didn't have to wait too long for someone to die. People sitting in the ER and observation that were critically ill, but no ICU beds. People literally being kept in recliners in the halls. I'd never seen the likes of it. Your ignorance and the ignorance of others like you got us to that. Thank God our numbers have taken a big drop, probably because so many people died in January--the staff is TIRED. We're tired of overtime and even Covid pay isn't enough enticement anymore. Think before you post.
