...One year ago tonight.
We went to The Pink Door (for locals) with 8 girlfriends, so it took a while to coordinate. We specifically went on a Monday night because they have a trapeze artist perform on Monday evenings.
It was such a fun night, and I’m so grateful that it was a memorable evening.
I believe this was 2 days after the shit hit the fan at Lifecare Care Facility 10 miles away. There was a sign on the restaurant door that read: “out of an abundance of caution...”yadayadayada).
Remember when that was the phrase du jour? At least we’ve moved to “shots in arms” now. Yes?
If only we knew then what we know now.
I’ve since eaten outside at a restaurant exactly twice since then. Will be three times this coming Thursday. I’m so looking forward to it. Since I live alone, dining out with friends takes coordination and a willingness to quarantine. It’s a bit of a pain.
Who’s next?

Mine was Feb 28, 2020. I remember because it was a friend’s birthday brunch and we went on a little bar crawl afterwards. I’ve done two outdoor dining experiences since but haven’t actually been inside a restaurant since 2020.

Two days ago. Sushi at an Asian fusion restaurant. Live music. Restaurants have not been closed here for a long time.

We ate out on 3/11 (the kid’s pizza birthday dinner) and 3/13 last year. By 3/13 I was starting to wonder if maybe we shouldn’t. Anyway, that was at my friend’s Mexican restaurant, she’s doing a thriving takeout business now, and I hope to make my first return-to-eating-indoors experience there, too. Someday. I have eaten outside at restaurants maybe half a dozen times, mostly in the last month or so. I miss eating out.

I can’t remember, but probably Dec 2019 or January 2020. I have done a bunch of take out but no eating in (including outside seating). It will seem weird when it happens. 😳😄

February 2021, appropriately distanced from other customers. Before that, I have no idea.

I don't remember the last time I ate inside at a restaurant--I went to a brew pub at the end of February 2020 and ate food truck food, but that doesn't really count. I ate outside probably 6 times with DH or with friends last summer. DH and I were experiencing extreme pandemic fatigue a couple of weeks ago, so we went back to the same brew pub and sat outside next to a firepit under an open-sided tent. There was snow on the ground and the temperature was in the low 20s with a pretty stiff wind. We lasted for a couple of drinks, but let's just say we were highly motivated. Also we were distracted by the people next to us who brought their new rescue dog with them who was a real sweetheart.

Last week for my kid's birthday. Before that, a couple of weeks. Before that, before the holidays when they shut down indoor dining again.
We've been doing take out as much as possible.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather and our favorite places opening up their outdoor seating. We did lose a couple of places to frequent due to the owners' attitude towards the pandemic, the election, and trump.

Tuesday, March 10,2020
My neighbor took my DH and I out to dinner for watching his dog the week before. That upcoming weekend we never went out for our usual Saturday night dinner with friends.
Who would have imagined, the world would still be in this situation a year later. Wow 😢

March 6, 2020 and the whole issue was for sure in the back of my mind. The first presumptive case in our province was March 5th and confirmed March 6th.
Crazy to think that is almost a year ago.

I met my son for lunch at this great little restaurant that is about half way between our houses. We tried to get together weekly back then. This was probably in December of 2019. He went out of town in January and then Covid stopped everything. I miss going out to eat.
I have seen him once since then when my doctor's office had called me and my ringer was off so I didn't know. They called my emergency contact, which is my son. He and his fiance drove out to see why I wasn't answering the phone.

March 15, 2020. Went to lunch with a few people from work because we figured it may be a month or so before we could go out again. Boy, I guess we were we off by just a bit.

September 2 for my birthday
We went to a restaurant that had a great outdoor eating area, lots of precautions, etc. However, it was just too windy to eat outside so we made the rough choice to eat indoors. Any other restaurant we probably would have take our food home.

The last time I ate at a restaurant was on Sunday, a few days ago.
But remember, we only have 8 active COVID cases in my state of 6.6 million people, and restaurants are open for business as usual. (I feel the need to point that out so people don't think we're not being cautious or COVID safe.)

2/14 when we got married. We've been calling it the last supper.
My husband has sarcoidosis (essentially, nodules in his lungs) and we have been very careful. We have decided we will start going inside restaurants after Easter. Only a year after the former president predicted the skies would clear and all would be well.

Restaurants have been open for a long while now where I am - but DH and I are still putting indoor dining into our "unacceptable/unnecessary risk" category. So our last meal in a restaurant was March 12, 2020. We stopped by Cheeky's on the way home from my dd's soccer game. That was the weirdest night - when we arrived at the field there were just groups of people standing around talking about the rumors going around that everything may shut down and what it all meant. DH was president of the soccer booster club and he and the booster club president of the other school's team asked the coaches if they could try to throw together a really quick recognition for the seniors between the girls and boys matches - just in case the real senior nights were cancelled. The coaches said no. (ETA: and of course there was no senior night...)

March 12 or 13, 2020. It was right as everything was shutting down and I was thinking "This is probably not a good idea", but I had arranged it a week earlier with my sisters and didn't want to flake.

Over a year ago. Restaurants are open in my area but there’s no way in hell that I would eat inside of one. I don’t know when I will feel comfortable eating at a restaurant again, probably not this year.
