I might just win this one. 10,550 miles from Johannesburg South Africa to San Francisco, 8700 to Chicago . SF is almost halfway around the world. The earth’s circumference is +- 24000 miles IIRC. I was in the lead until you came along! I haven't travelled outside of Australia since getting here, I always tell my parents that dragging me half way around the world when I was 4yo put me off travel forever. We love traveling. Once this pandemic is over, we hope to go to Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Not all in the same trip. I was talking to dh about this thread. The antipodes (who knows this word?) of Johannesburg is in Hawaii so I guess I could be even further from my birthplace.

scrappinghappy I just looked up the antipodes (great word, thanks for the lesson) of my city and it's in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Anyone have a boat?

It's 4,102 miles or 6602 kilometers. I was born in Wurzburg, Germany and I now live in MD.
The furthest from home I've ever lived was when I lived in Japan for six months (would have stayed longer if I could have but my visa expired).

Somewhere around 1300 miles. Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on LI. Currently live in Arkansas. But I was considerably further away when we lived in central Utah.

I happen to live less than a mile from the hospital I was born in. My childhood home was 10 miles away from the hospital.

I live 30 minutes/miles from where I was born. Interestingly, to me anyway, we moved before I was a year old and I moved back to this area with the military in my 30's. On my 50th birthday my mom and I went to where we lived when I was born. I had never seen it but back then the birth certificates had addresses on it. The house was torn down but other landmarks were there.
When DS2 went to college, he got an apartment and right around the corner from it was the church where I was baptized. It's like we had gone full circle. All the places I lived in my life and I ended up within half an hour of where I was born.
Also kind of small world is my son was born in an Air Force hospital, and 28 years later he met and married a woman who was born in that same hospital. Then their daughter was born in that same hospital, just 2 months before they closed the hospital. So all 3 were born in the same hospital just by circumstance not plan.

3 sad miles lol. I said when I moved away after college I was never coming back. But I had to at one point out of necessity, it was only going to be temporary. I then met my husband and we bought a house here (20 yrs ago) We were planning on moving but...life. I still keep saying once my kids are out of hs, I can't guarantee I am staying here.

9.6 miles. I delivered all 4 of my kids at the same hospital that I was delivered at. 19.1 miles from my parents and 4.7 miles from my inlaws.
But we live in the SF Bay Area, which I tend to think of differently than a lot of the US in terms of living where you grew up. A lot more people and towns between us than in a lot of areas.

I live in the same city in which I was born Calgary The General Hospital where I was born was imploded awhile back ... I can't give distance but it was about a half hour drive from my house ... the implosion was amazing to watch It's a big joke here that I'm a "rare breed": someone who was born in Calgary who actually still lives here

Mine is 1603 miles / 2580 kilometers
---------------------------------------------------------- myboysnme .....Interesting coincidences! Mentally, about a million miles. Me too !!! The General Hospital where I was born was imploded awhile back ... I can't give distance but it was about a half hour drive from my house ... the implosion was amazing to watch I don't know if you ever saw the thread where I asked where peAple were born, and if it was a hospital, house, taxi cab (LOL!), etc.... if the building was still there. The hospital I was born in is now upscale condominiums with a Trader Joe's on the first floor. I was glad it wasn't torn down like so many other cool buildings.

My parents still live in my childhood home. I know it’s encouraged to eventually leave your home town but I was born and raised in San Diego and really have no plans to leave. I've heard nothing but WONDERFUL things about San Diego; if I lived there, I wouldn't want to leave, either! I also love that your parents still live in your childhood home! (We've visited many cities in California, and I loved them all! I've told DH many times that I would love to live there!) I once heard on the radio that 75% (or higher?) die within 50 miles from where they were born. That will be me. That is so interesting. I'm thinking of the people I've known who've died, and so far-- it's about 50%.

I live about 600 miles from where I was born/grew up. I have no plans to ever move back. It's a rural area filled with old thinking and racists. No thanks.

17 miles. Except for about a year and a half in my early twenties, I've always lived in the same county.
ETA 17 miles from the hospital where I was born and a little further from the house my parents lived in my first year of life. I live 12 miles away from the house I grew up in and where my parents still live.
