Let me preface this with I go to Starbucks maybe once every 2 years and I only get a mocha. So I know next to nothing about Starbucks.
I saw this posted on Twitter. I started reading all the comments and I have so many questions but I'll limit it to just a couple.
1) Why is ordering something like this such a negative thing? Apparently it's full of sugar but that's not what I'm talking about. Why is *Edward* a dick for this order?
2) Do you tip at Starbucks? Tipping has NEVER occurred to me. I don't tip at McDonalds when I go the counter and order take out. To me Starbucks and McDonalds are equivalent.
ETA: I'm asking about tipping because a lot of the comments said he better have left a huge tip.

It's dicky because all that listed on that back was *Edwards* customizations to a drink. It's just a lot of bullshit for a barista to do for a drink. And honestly that looks like a fake order or someone was punking them on purpose. Because that is one high maintenance drink order.

It’s like going to any restaurant and asking for a ton of changes to a menu item. It’s a pain for the person taking your order and a pain for the person making it.

***Edward is bot a sick. Some people like to really customize their drink. Seems like the barrista needs to find a new job.
2) Do you tip at Starbucks? Tipping has NEVER occurred to me. I don't tip at McDonalds when I go the counter and order take out. To me Starbucks and McDonalds are equivalent.
***Hell no. I hardly go (sorry their coffee sucks) but I have never tipped.

Yes, there is tipping at Starbucks. I guess it is because your drinks are custom made, like that order you posted.

Yes, this is like going to a restaurant and ordering a menu item, then changing pretty much everything about it. Chain restaurants create their menus based on speed/volume as well as popularity. The idea is to be able to make a high volume of items as quick as possible and serve them as fast as possible. This kind of order throws a wrench into the whole process. IMO, this is less about the barista's day [still sucks] and more about Edward's disregard for all the people in line behind him. Although making this kind of order in a sea of "regular" orders sucks, this is the kind of order that makes everyone else have to wait. My thought is Edward needs to learn how to make his own frou frou drinks at home or tip like a mofo to whomever had to make this.

We hate Charbucks, but most coffee shops charge for a lot of that extra stuff. Who has the app and can figure out what in the heck this drink would actually cost? I say this is totally fake or at the very least something that happens rarely.
My teeth ache just reading that list of sugar on sugar on sugar!

I say this is totally fake or at the very least something that happens rarely. My teeth ache just reading that list of sugar on sugar on sugar! Let me see if I can work my magic on that. BRB. I hope. ETA: Well, I tried. I don't live in a town with a SB but I have the app. The store I chose is out of banana so it wouldn't even let me add the order. But in doing this little experiment, it would appear that "Edward" just hit every customization he could to this order.

The way it is printed on the cup would be a freaking nightmare to follow. That might be starbucks or it might be Edward, but for a fast food type place it would absolutely slow the barista down trying to get all the ingredients right since toppings are mixed in with things that need to be done before it is blended.
Second of all Edward may not be a dick, but he must be a freaking high maintenance nightmare to deal with. I can't imagine his McDonald order. Big Mac, 3 pickles, ketchup on the top patty, special sauce on the bottom. Mustard on both. Onions only on bottom. Add 4 tomato slices. Plain bun. Top bun in the middle. Only bottom bun toasted. Pepper only. No salt. Wrapped in paper instead of a box.
Do you think Edward goes to a nice French restaurant and demands 9 different things be done to his meal? He is the kind of person who makes nice restaurants put "substitutions or alterations politely declined". He is also likely the type of person who would make a dish unrecognizable then complain about how bad it is.
I am all for people being able to order what they want, but if you are making a special order that is going to take at least twice as long as any other drink you should tip.

How many iterations did he try before he came up with that “perfect” blend??

I tried too, no bananas at my store either! It out up charged for heavy cream and one topping though so all those customizations oy added 1.20 to the base price.
I wonder if Starbucks has done something because I tried 10 different stores and all say bananas sold out, you can't even add a single banana.

He is asking for a huge amount of customization. For a business that is expected to turn orders around super quickly, it is a huge pain in the ss to deal with this many extras. Yes, you tip. They work hard and get paid poorly.

Edward is a dick because that drink is very time consuming for the barista. People often go in with that kind of order for their free birthday drink too. Plus, it’s just dumb to have that much crap in your coffee. I’m sorry.

I think I counted 13 customizations? I put it in my app, and it brought the $5.75 drink to $13.20, but I couldn't find the Honey Blend to add. Only the bananas, Frapp chips, and Heavy Cream cost extra. The bananas were the biggest driver at $6.25 - more than the price of the drink itself!
I guess he is basically paying for 2+ drinks, but I bet the baristas aren't judged based on price.
I have a friend who does this to her Newks salad, and I usually follow her order by starting mine with, "This is going to be really easy..."

At first to me it seems like Edward loves his specialty drinks. But that IS way over the top nuts. I have my special drink.... but it is nowhere like this drink. Soy Chi Tea, no water, extra pump of Chi.
But I wonder on some of those 'secret menus' those drinks can be pretty far out.. Unicorn drink? FrakenFrap or something like that. Not on Edward's level but I think some of those type drinks are pretty heavy duty.
I don't usually tip, I pay through the app and it's automatic. If I pay in the store, if I have change I will throw it in.. but I usually go through the drive-thru. (A lot of the Starbucks around me are inside grocery stores and they are not allowed to take tips)

There are several Starbucks around here that have closed down temporarily because of supply shortage issues. Maybe bananas are one of the things that are hard to come by right now? www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-workers-report-shortages-of-cups-syrups-pastries-2021-4

Starbucks Coffee #6961, 15355 Sherman Wy Ste A, Van Nuys, CA
from the order. I think it is a fake order though.

By the looks of it...all that wouldn't even fit in a cup! I really hope "5 banana" doesn't mean 5 actually bananas? I'm pretty sure Edward would have no clue whether is order is correct or not.

I put the order in my app (one thing was not available--salted ____ butter) and it came out to $14.52, up from $5.75 for the regular drink. Sounds fake, definitely excessive, but if SB is going to have all of that available in their app for that specific drink, then I see no problem with anyone ordering it (there were one or two things not added that could have been).
Should people tip at SB? For that type of drink, absolutely. For a normal regular menu item, sorry but I don't and I won't.

Some people will customize heavily on the free drinks. I think Starbucks, while menu driven, has also made itself out to be the "menu can be customized to suit you" place.

Fake order. No tipping: They donate tips to charity in most stores. That is not at all true. And I live in the land that Starbucks came from. I tip occasionally. But not regularly. Depends on if I ordered a lot, or something special, or maybe a Holiday.
