I'm looking on the usps website. I'm thinking of this:
First-Class Package International Service™ Value of contents can not exceed $400.00 Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36" Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42" Varies by destination $39.65
or this: Priority Mail International® Legal Flat Rate Envelope Value of contents can not exceed $400.00 USPS-Produced Envelope: 15" x 9-1/2" Maximum weight 4 pounds. 6 - 10 business days to many major markets1, 2 $24.75
Is one that much better than the other? Other than price-wise, that is.
Thanks!

priority mail international is fine. I use that all the time with my ebay sales. . As long as you get your tracking number… you are good to go.

Hey kiwi! Do you get customs fees when you get a package from USA? I've just checked on our customs website, and apparently we do, but I buy things on Amazon and never had to pay.

If you're going to use the latter, you'll first have to track down an international legal flat rate envelope from somewhere. I don't think I've ever seen one at my post office. And, of course, your stuff will have to fit in the flat rate envelope. (I am not sure, but I think the rule for the flat rate envelopes is that you can't use anything extra to seal them other than the adhesive already on there.)

Whether we have to pay Customs fees or Duty etc for stuff coming into New Zealand depends on the value and what it is.
For anything over about NZ$400 we have to pay GST on the value (goods and services tax, 15%) Some products automatically incur Duty regardless of value, but I don't think there are many in that category. Also any organic matter is going to be double-checked and may be destroyed depending on what it is. So be very careful if your parcel involves and plant or animal by-products, or food. Commercially prepare food is usually ok, though some simply will not be allowed - honey for example.
We have a really strict policy on things like that because we are an island nation, dependent on agriculture. Anything that may cause a problem to the agriculture industry will not be allowed in.
If you can give an idea of what you are sending, we can probably better help answer your query.

It's a country box swap. I'm planning on sending lots of postcards, local recipes, a country music CD (old Appalachian music), a thin kids book about WV. I was thinking about some hard candies, but wasn't sure.
