Fireworks are illegal in my county. But it so easy for people to still obtain them, either in the next county, state, or over the border. I am glad they are illegal in my area because I worry about the fire danger, especially this year with the drought and heat. And one 14 year-old lost a hand yesterday setting off illegal fireworks. I remember as a kid we played with fireworks. They were legal back then.

They're legal 365 days a year in my town, unfortunately. And with 3 fireworks stores within 1/2 miles of each other, there are lots and lots being shot off all the time.
One of my wonderful neighbors started a brush fire by lighting off fireworks a couple of months ago when it was so dry.

In our area there is a fine of $500 if anyone is caught setting them off. They encourage people to call the sheriff or security if they see anyone setting them off.

In the state itself, the ones that shoot into the air are illegal. Fountains, sparklers...are fine. Certain cities and counties have stricter bans and some depend on drought conditions.
I honestly don't know if they are legal in my town or not, but they get lit anyway.

The “safe and sane” fireworks are legal in my city. However the guy down the street that obviously has a tiny dick, keeps setting off bombs that shake my entire house. And the useless police, who on their Facebook page ask you to report these assholes, do nothing.

The illegal ones can be purchased less than an hour away, but the ones that go into the air were expensive this year. Apparently there is a shortage

"Safe and Sane" fireworks are legal here. Illegal fireworks are readily available on an Indian Reservation less than an hour away. Our local PD is pretty good about tracking and shutting down the illegal fireworks.
ETA: Tracking them while they are being set off, and then shutting the rest down, by confiscating them.

Apparently a town in Colorado is asking residents to photograph or video their neighbors setting odd fireworks to give to the police

They’re legal but very limited. Unfortunately, it’s really easy to go to reservations and buy anything and everything so lots of people set off illegal fireworks.

Some kinds are legal in Minnesota, other kinds are illegal, but people buy the illegal ones in Wisconsin and shoot them off here and there is no law enforcement action of any kind.

Within city limits it is illegal, but out in the country side it is OK. We used to have great parties and lots of fun doing the fireworks. Of course, we made sure to have water hoses and to watch out for sparks to make sure they did not start a fire. When there is a fire ban, there will be no fireworks. Each county has the responsibility to post bans if needed when the risk of fire is too bad.

Illegal within the city limits. Yet you hear so many of them every big holiday, as well as gunshots in the air. It's been that way for 30 years and only seems to get worse every year.

Illegal and it's a felony charge if they catch you setting any off. People do it still every year even though there are 4 great, professional shows within an hour's drive in any direction.

Illegal but it won’t matter, once it’s dark it will sound like a war zone, especially because I’m near unincorporated county areas. With the recent heat wave more cities have banned personal fireworks, but not all of the cities so you just drive 10 minutes to the next stand.

Sadly they are legal on the 4th until midnight. Of course they are set off whenever and where ever so the law does not really matter.

Some of my favorite childhood memories though, are going to the huge fireworks display on town lake in Austin. We saw acts from local favorites to Carlos Santana to my very favorite, The Beach Boys. They had bands play all day, we saw acts from local favorites to Carlos Santana to my very favorite, The Beach Boys. And then an amazing display at night accompanied by the Austin Orchestra. Simply Magical.

They are legal here, but only for New Year's Eve. Sales are only allowed from Dec 27th until midday on Dec 31st, and you can (supposedly) only set them off from 6pm NYE until 6am on Jan 1st, though you always heat them outside these times. Last year they were totally banned, due to Covid restrictions - actually, I also think that most of the stores that are allowed to sell them were closed, due to our lockdown rules at the time.

They're legal in Michigan. My town has an ordinance about when you can set them off without a permit. Do the police enforce that? Nope. We've been hearing fireworks nearly every night since memorial day. Sometimes it's just firecrackers. Sometimes it's the big boomers that sends the cat to the basement.

Illegal in my state. But NH, where they are legally sold, is 30 minutes up the road.
I used to love them pre-dog, but then my dog was so scared that she'd be a quivering mess hiding in the shower. We eventually had to sedate her, and I hated that. I grew to dislike them. My neighbors set them off all summer long.

I live in MA but work in RI. They're illegal 365 in MA but legal in the surrounding states. I remember going into a RI Target and being utterly confused by the HUGE fireworks display in the store, took me a second that they're not illegal in RI. They sell them in gas stations in RI!
Needless to say, it doesn't stop people in MA from setting them off. I live maybe 100 yards from the reservoir so every 4th of July I have to makes sure all my windows are closed and I have either the TV or my white noise app on to keep the dogs from getting scared. It's pouring rain now but it's supposed to stop later so the shows will start tonight and go every night thru Monday.

Legal here, and people from Oregon come to buy them too because they are much crazier here, but banned this year due to high heat and fire concerns.

Illegal in Illinois but legal in Indiana with a few HUGE fireworks stores just over the border on the expressway leading out of Chicago. So fireworks are easily purchased and people buy car loads to bring back to Illinois.
I am totally against fireworks for what they do to animals, people with PTSD, so on and so on.

Both. Legally they can be sold anywhere in the state, but some cities have made it illegal to shot them off within city limits. It's only been legal to sell them for a few years now so there's a lot of people who are against them (at least here in the metro area), but that doesn't stop the rest of the people from shooting them off (legally or illegally). Having grown up in a state that allows them, I'm used to them and have no issues with them...except bottle rockets & the ones that do nothing but make a huge loud boom with no warning and no pretty colors.

I didn't answer the poll because I don't know specifically what "personal" means, and I know there are different types of fireworks. Some of them are clearly legal because they sell them everywhere. And of course I hear them all over the neighborhood. ugh.

Legal here. I live in Joe Dirt country...the more likely something is to blow a finger off then the better. Blowing things up on the 4th is like a rite of passage particularly for the males of our species. I'll be inside that night with my dogs enjoying the cool air conditioning.

DH says the pretty ones are legal, the explosive ones like firecrackers are not. But I guess even the pretty ones need some sort of explosion. I have sparklers for our party tomorrow, but that's the extent of it. It's been rainy here for the past few days, so no real fire danger. I know people do shoot off the illegal ones, because it terrifies my dog, and the list of lost dogs on Facebook is long after the 4th.
