I read an article not long ago that said CA was 50%. Quick google search just now says 51.4% of CA is fully vaccinated. Which is odd since CA doesn't exactly fit the narrative of who isn't getting the vaccine. So who in the heck isn't getting vaccinated in CA? Is that 50% of the population? Or 50% of those eligible for the vaccine at this time? 50% of eligible. It is, as of yesterday, 51.4%. My county is lower 40% fully vaccinated.

In my neighborhood the great majority of people are still wearing masks indoors, even store employees even though they are not required. The other day I went to a mall 30 minutes away and nobody was wearing masks. I’m still wearing them indoors even though I’m vaccinated. It seems like such a simple precaution.

I have the exact same experience (not California). It’s why - along with state vaccine stats, as illustrated upthread - it’s so hard to generalize about anything based on state or even sometimes county. (And forget about “Americans believe…” or “In the US we all…”)

We have a small but very vocal group in Orange County about not having students wear masks in school. The LA decision is not sitting well with them as you can imagine. My school district sent out an email yesterday to clarify we are still required to wear masks. This group now wants to sue! We go back in less than a month. A lot can happen in a month as we all know! I see nothing wrong with being proactive, getting numbers down, and being healthy going into fall and winter.

I am putting mine back on inside stores... oh well Same. No official orders here in WA, but I don't like what I'm reading about the delta variant.

I'm in Northern California and I'm still wearing my mask anyway (I'm vaccinated but I have young kids at home). I'd say maybe 50% of people are still wearing them here.
As far as who in CA isn't getting vaccinated - it varies wildly by area. Our neighboring big city is divided into two zipcodes- one of the zipcodes is 49.2% fully vaccinated and the other is 78% fully vaccinated. The rural areas seem to have the lowest vaccination numbers and closer to the city is much higher.

It runs the gammot. I have three old friends who are not vaccinated. -they are of different races -two are college graduates. One has a masters degree -all grew up in different socio economic backgrounds -only one is married -all of their family members are vaccinated except for them The only thing they have in common is -they are women -they are in their mid 50's -they are very conservative -they supported the last President One of my college roommates, a friend of 40 years, has climbed aboard the Trump wagon, and is not vaccinated. She thinks that it’s a scam. I am worried for her because she has several medical conditions that put her at high risk. She has turned into an angry, bitter Trumper. It’s sad.

I'm not going to lie... The current % of vaccinated people in some US states is alarming from this side of the pond. We've been playing catch-up for months now. The EU only just reached enough vaccine stock for 70% for the adult population. I really thought California would have a better coverage by now, especially considering the US is not known to be a particularly vaccine-hesitant nation. Anyhoo, welcome back to the masked indoors club. It's totally fine. You can go back to resting bitch face without anyone knowing. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Riverside county had pretty much stalled on vaccines. I don’t see the numbers improving any time soon. Too many still think it’s not serious snd less than the flu. I don’t think any incentive is going to change their minds other than serious injury, long haul or death of loved ones snd even then they say oh it was their time. WTF.
I saw in the news that someone in Long Beach is sponsoring joints for jabs. First 150.
All we can do is lower our risk and try snd avoid the foolish. I really hope we don’t see a huge surge.

That's exactly one of the above women. She was my college roommate. Have known her for 35 years. I mean, you think you know a person. You see and talk to them all the time and yet this other side of them pops out as a result of the past President and the pandemic. I've never questioned the longevity of our friendship until now.

I don't think anything will incentivize the unvaccinated at this point. Not money. Not gifts. Not joints. Catching the virus and facing their mortality might convince some but many more will stand on "principle". To your other point, I believe we will have another big surge. We are headed there now.

Looking at the stats for my county (San Diego), from the ages 12-39 51%-64% have had at least one shot. Above the age of 40, the percentages range between 75%-97%. And the group with the highest number of hospitalization right now is the 20-29 year-olds. I think I’ll hang out with the old folks. 😆

It's funny because I thought that group was just a very small minority around here.

I know you are right I just hope that not too many innocent kids die or have permanent or long term damage. I also hope that our vaccines hold up against them and that it’s mostly the unvaccinated that get it. Everyone that wants the vaccine can get it over the age of 12 here.

Just got back from stopping at Walmart in Porter Ranch. Almost everyone was masked, including me.
I saw only one woman unmasked. There was an extremely racially diverse crowd shopping there. Hispanics/Blacks/Asian/White. Young, elderly. I'm hopeful.

Vegas/Nevada and a few other states are being called some kind of Covid super spreader hot spot. I can remember what term they used. Was it Flash Point?

Not sure What show I was watching on CNN last night, but a spokesperson or somebody said that every single person in Los Angeles county that has Covid and is hospitalized is unvaccinated. They also showed a poll that even if Trump came out and encouraged the unvaccinated to get a shot, there was a high percentage of unvaccinated Trumpers that still would not get vaccinated.

Personally, I don’t think so. But now, they’ve dug in their heels and been vocal about it, so publicly it would be embarrassing for them. They’ve held it in their head for so long they’re convinced it’s the truth now. Also, it’s an anti-libs rally cry at this point. I truly believe it would have been very different had it been handled better from the get go.

Just returned from Oahu and I'm curious about what will be happening there. They just opened the doors for those with the vaccination require no tests to enter. Mask were required indoors, and open air lobbies/malls required masks.
It seems like personal sanitation was more relaxed than we were used to. We carried our wipes and sanitized often. We didn't notice others doing it. Restaurants were great about it!
Masks were seldom worn outside, even in large crowds. We noticed people from some countries (assumptions made here since I have no idea where they are from) that wore masks at all time, but I assume it's likely to be something they do anyways at home for pollution.
Out of 6 flights, our last flight returning home gave the most reminders about masking up between sips and bites. They also seemed like the grumpiest crew. I'm glad I didn't start my trip with them. Maybe they've all had a bad experience. People seemed very compliant on all flights, but the last flight seemed like they just waited for you not to put your mask on immediately after a bite and would announce on the speaker the reminder. Putting a mask on and off after each bite or sip seems less safe with all the touching, but people did their best.
I don't think our school will require masking up at all this year. Back to normal it sounds like unless the governor requires something if he is forced to. It'll be interesting to see what the end of summer results in with relaxed standards.

I truly believe it would have been very different had it been handled better from the get go. I’ve lost the thread of the story, but a couple months ago I read that at least some people close to Himself were strongly advising him to make public pro-vaccine statements to stem the growing reluctance. He was considering it but worried he would lose support (read: money, votes, adulation). Don’t know what happened but haven’t heard anything, so assume he-and-his decided against it. I absolutely think he could have steered this attitudinal ship from the beginning, but I agree few would listen now. Hell, some would say it was just a Clone Trump…
