I hadn't heard this--do you have a link? I don't object to wearing a mask, just had not heard that they are required again.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Citing continued increases in transmission of COVID-19, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is re-implementing a mandate requiring residents to wear masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.
The county previously only recommended mask-wearing indoors. The new mandate will take effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday night, officials announced.
The announcement was made during a virtual briefing on Thursday afternoon. It comes exactly one month after California dropped its statewide mask mandate for vaccinated people.
Some exceptions will apply, health officials said, similar to masking requirements that were in place before June 15. Additional details about those exemptions were not immediately disclosed.
The L.A. County Health Officer, Dr. Muntu Davis, said the new health order will be published in its entirety on the website covid19.lacounty.gov no later than Friday.

I doubt that as county departments of health have control now and Newsom stated there would not be a state mandate again. It is completely local control.

Hopefully Ventura County will as well. I'm right on the boundary between the two.

The anti-vax cult don’t care that their members get sick. It’s apparently worse to wear a mask than to end up in the hospital with Covid. I’m feeling a little schadenfreude that they have to put them back on but we knew they would be the ones to keep the pandemic going. Yay.

What are the vaccination rates? I am in Ontario and my city is at 82% with 1 shot and I think it was 57% with both (of over 12) and we are just getting back to indoor dining (with masks when not eating/drinking)

Hoping it doesn't get out of control again there. We've been wearing masks anytime we step outside our home. We don't trust anything down here (FL). The stats here are horribly dangerous, yet nothing is being done (except for our Governor selling anti-Fauci merchandise & having the proceeds go to his re-election campaign). Incredible.

gov. newsom said he wouldn't reverse the mask mandate but if the Delta variant keeps spreading and cases keep spiking, he won't have a choice. besides, what can they do? recall him? oh wait, they are doing that already.

But delta is so much more contagious, than earlier variants that people who are waiting for their second shot have far less protection than they had against the previous variants. Six out of 92 people, all fully vaccinated, all over 50, got the delta variant of covid at a wedding in Texas that took place in a large, open-air tent. All guests had to be vaccinated, though it was the honor system. The good news is breakthrough cases don’t generally require hospitalization. So it’s more contagious but possibly not more serious. However, one person died who received a vaccine not used in the U.S.

I really hope they reinstate the mask mandate at Disneyland. Until they do or my kids can get vaccinated we won't be going. This gives me hope!

Quick google search just now says 51.4% of CA is fully vaccinated. Which is odd since CA doesn't exactly fit the narrative of who isn't getting the vaccine. So who in the heck isn't getting vaccinated in CA?

I’m right across the state hoping the same but starting to feel my hope dwindle. My household is fully vaccinated including my 12 year old and we still wear masks everywhere we go. Lately, we have been feeling like the odd ones out as we are stared and glared at — most people in our county don’t wear masks anymore. Today, I went to a large, big name store for a quick return and found them to be closed mid-day. This store is rarely ever closed so I had a bad feeling about it. Apparently they are closed until Saturday morning for “deep cleaning and restocking” as they are dealing with a decent sized outbreak of positive COVID cases amongst their staff. I want to say this is unbelievable but really, it’s not. 😞

It runs the gammot. I have three old friends who are not vaccinated. -they are of different races -two are college graduates. One has a masters degree -all grew up in different socio economic backgrounds -only one is married -all of their family members are vaccinated except for them The only thing they have in common is -they are women -they are in their mid 50's -they are very conservative -they supported the last President

So who in the heck isn't getting vaccinated in CA? The state has a lot of areas that are conservative and Republican. We also have a lot of ‘healthy’ people who don’t believe in Big Pharm. So, it is a mixed bag of people who are not getting the shot. And I know people who fit both of those descriptions.

Lsst I checked we were only at about 40% in my county. No way will people go back to wearing masks there were too many that refused and caused scenes over it before. They were online today and commenting about it.
I go shopping early morning and still see people masked but even employees are only about 50% wearing them. Mornings are also when seniors shops so I maybe see more masked because of that. I’m still wearing as it’s not a big deal to wear when I go out.
Our Sheriff made a big stand that he won’t enforce so even if it happens again there are people that feel validated to not wear them. Ironically he got Covid around the holidays.

ETA my county, which is the most backwards of the Bay Area counties, has nearly 58% fully vaccinated. I don’t know if they’re only counting over-12s or if that’s everyone.

In my neck of LA county (southeast), most everyone keeps wearing masks indoors. I would say about 90%. So much that if feels weird not wearing one, so I’ve never stopped wearing the mask indoors.

I want to say this is unbelievable but really, it’s not. 😞 Oh gosh, be safe!! I read social media posts about FL and people feel sorry for anyone living here. Other than that, FL is always the butt of jokes, right? But this is SERIOUS. Your side of the State must be different. I know that the area we live in is far different than most of FL (it's worse!), and throughout the pandemic it's been a hit or miss about seeing people wearing masks. I'd ask mgr after mgr at all Publix stores (in the height of the pandemic) why they'd allow customers in w/o masks when it CLEARLY stated on their doors that you needed a mask to come in. Their pat answer was that they didn't want to offend those customers. Well, you just offended the rest of your customers who wanted to be as safe as we could be. I detest Publix for that reason (and a few others)..... People on this side just haven't really worn masks. We all got vaccinated as soon as we could and we continue to be safe. I fear going out every day because DH's immune system is so very low.
I hope that you'll be safe. I'm only going out when I absolutely have to. I don't care what people think when they see me wearing a mask. They have enough questions about my eye patch. I do what's safest. It's like walking thru a minefield, right?
