of SHINGLES! 🤬🤬🤬
It started with an itchy spot on my back Friday night, which I assumed was a bug bite because I had my Shingrix vaccines in Oct 2019 and Jan 2020. By Saturday night it was spreading, and when I got home from the movies after itching uncontrollably through it, I realized I was probably in trouble. By yesterday morning, I had a line of welts and blisters from near the middle of my back around to near my sternum under my right breast.
Sigh. Being Sunday, I headed to a military hospital ER. I was lucky, because the wait time was 3 hours to just get in to the back, but after they triaged me and saw the rash, I was dealt with quickly and in and out in 2 hours.
I’m now on Acyclovir and Prednisone. I didn’t fall asleep until 5 am because of the stupid steroids and am grouchy as heck today, but the welts and blisters are much improved.
Apparently, I am one of the lucky 3% that the vaccine didn’t prevent shingles in. I know that stress is probably a contributing factor with my MIL recently passing, but it still stinks. I hate shingles.

That sucks! I hope the meds they gave you are at least helping some. Shingles is miserable, I know several people who have had it. I think I heard on TV that people can get the vaccine for that right at the pharmacy, so maybe that will be the route I go since I think I’m kind of overdue for mine.

I am sorry about your MIL. How horrible that you are having to deal with shingles on top of it!

Oh man, so sorry to hear that.
Even with breakthrough, does it "ease" the symptoms? I don't know that much about Shingles, only that you don't want to get them.
I'll be getting the vaccine as soon as I turn 50 for sure!

Oh man!! I'm sorry!! Some things are just not fair. You've been thru enough and you got the vaccine to prevent this! I hope it'll be a mild case for you. Did the doctors say that it'll be more mild because you got the vaccine?? In any case, I know how annoying and painful it could be. Sorry.
As far as the lack of sleep, are you allowed to take anything?? I'd ask. It's not good to be awake and uncomfortable! (I was on Prednisone for 1 year after my eye accident, and it sucked.)
Hope you're feeling better soon, and I'm so sorry again for the loss of your MIL. xo

I'll be getting the vaccine as soon as I turn 50 for sure! So far it is better than my last case (this is the 3rd time I’ve had them), but was on my face in 2014. I think that anywhere is probably better than on your face. 😀 I am grateful that they are only on my back/side/torso and are responding well to meds! That sucks! I hope the meds they gave you are at least helping some. Shingles is miserable, I know several people who have had it. Yes, you can get them at your pharmacy. I got mine at the corner Walgreens and my military health insurance covered the cost 100%. I still think that everyone should get the Shingrix vaccine. They are proven to be one of the most effective vaccines out there. I think that for whatever reason, my body doesn’t fight shingle/herpes zoster well. I had my first case at 16, which is also really rare.

Hope your case resolved quickly and the vaccine helps it to not be too awful. Dh was sick with shingles for 2 months, it was a nightmare. Hope you can take something to help you rest.

So sorry about the shingles, but hopefully it will disappear fast now. I just had my second shot recently. Hoping for the best … there’s been a lot of shingles in my family.

I’m sorry that you are so miserable. I’ve had the same thing with chicken pox. I’ve had it 3 times, but haven’t had it in years. The first two cases were mild, but the third time I had it at 18. I had a specialist from the Children’s hospital following me because it was so bad. I’ve had the first Shingrix dose, but not the second because they have been out of stock here. Then Covid hit, then I didn’t want to have any vaccines because we didn’t know when the Covid vaccine would be in. I’ll be at the clinic on Thursday—I need to check and see if it’s in stock then.

Oh my gosh you just can’t seem to get a break. I’m so sorry. I’ve had the original shingles shot and both of the newer Shingrex shots. I think I got all of my shots at Costco.
I’ll never forget the time when when I was 7 years old and I was sick with measles, mumps and chickenpox - all within quick succession. They overlapped and left me so sick with fever, rashes and itching for 3 weeks with no break. It was awful. I was burning up with fever and begged my mother to cut off my long hair. She took her sewing scissors and chopped my hair off into a super short mess. I was quite a sight - chopped off hair, beet-red, swollen face with measles and chickenpox scabs all over my body.
You have my deepest sympathies and cyber hugs and wishes to get well soon!

Oh, so sorry elaine! I've been wanting to get a shot for a while now. Guess I'd better screw my courage to the sticking point (HA) and get it done.

Nooooo! So sorry. I've known a few people who had shingles and it was not fun. I got the Shringrex vaccine as soon as I could. You caught it fast so the meds should do their stuff. I am wishing your outbreak away!

Darn. I had no idea people got breakthrough cases of shingles, but I guess nothing is 100%. I hope it will be a mild case and that you’ll soon be back to good health.
