We are travelling right now - in the Canadian sub-Arctic for wilderness tours. It’s the riskiest thing we’ve done this whole pandemic. We haven’t even eaten in a restaurant since covid began, until this week. The flights were a bit nerve-wracking but now that we’re here, we feel very safe. However, we are supposed to do Disney at Christmas, and I think we’re going to cancel for the second year in a row. I can’t imagine going to Florida right now, even though we’re all fully vaccinated. Maybe Christmas 2022?

I am not traveling now or in the forseeable future, because my finances won't permit it. If I could afford it, I would drive to the beach, any beach, doesn't matter which one. I would love to walk on the beach, walk on the bluff trail/pathaway adjacent to the beach, sit on a bench and look at the water, look at the pier, have an ice cream cone, have a bowl of soup at the cafe overlooking the water. A long walk on the beach, is good for my soul.

We've got a cruise booked for September 4th and we're excited to go. Jen WTF! This is utterly insane.

I wouldn’t and I especially I wouldn’t feel comfortable traveling south. I don’t want to give any money to people are acting like covid isn’t happening or encourage others to travel there. I know there are good people who live there and who are trying to follow the rules but I take one look at that map and I’m just sickened. That's a good idea to not give money to people acting like covid isn't happening. And I also feel bad for the good people in those areas that are doing everything they can to stop covid. I agree with all you said.

We have tentative plans to go to a music festival in northern Alabama in October, but we’re playing it by ear. (Festival requires vax or negative test.) If things don’t improve substantially (both here and there), we’ll cancel.

We are not traveling right now and have no plans to travel any time soon. Just doesn’t feel right to us. When i started reading this thread, I started thinking about how many new cases states have. I live in NY and have been watching our numbers rise consistently the past month. We are up to 4,000+ New cases a day with a 7-day average of 4,100+. It’s so scary to me, even vaccinated and still wearing masks. I just checked Florida and was beyond shocked to see their 7-day average as of Friday 8/13, was 21,630 new cases a day!!!!!!! I’m speechless You couldn’t pay me to go to Florida.

Not fun travel. I drove with DD to college a week ago and flew home, and I'll drive my other kid to college in NY a couple of weeks and fly home. I'm not thrilled about flying but there's not a great alternative. At least masks are required in airports and on planes and I've got FDA-approved KN95's.
Before Delta went wild, we thought about having DH meet me in NY and making a weekend of it, but we have canceled those plans. I'm not ready for NYC crowds or any of our usual fun activities (mostly Broadway shows).
Also, did y'all know you can get OTC Covid tests now? I picked one up ($20 for 2 tests with results in 15 min) after I got back from my trip with DD just to be sure because I don't want to be the asshole who gets someone else sick.

We just booked a trip to Florida over Christmas break. We thought about Mexico or Hawaii and decided we didn't want to go anywhere we have to fly or where travel restrictions could muddle our plans. We are staying in 2 private Airbnbs and will mostly be outdoors at the beach or just together with our family and will really limit going to indoor public places. We have lots of kayaking/scuba/snorkel trips planned (we will be in the keys). We are all vaccinated except for my youngest DD (she is not 12 yet) and booked places we can cancel if things get crazier. If we do travel we will continue to wear masks just like we do now.

It depends on where I'd be traveling to on whether I would feel comfortable going. Florida/Texas, no I wouldn't go right now. I would be worrying the entire time that if I got into a car accident/had a stroke/my kid broke an arm, etc that we may not be able to be treated. Check the hospital for the area you're planning to travel to and see what their numbers are. Chances are they will be worse next month.
I personally haven't had an opportunity to travel. I think I'd be ok with flying since I'm vaxxed and would wear a mask. There is no way I'd be setting foot on a cruise ship.
Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope your Dad cools off. That must've been a shock to see.

If I had somewhere I wanted to go and it was fully open then we would go. Later in the fall we will probably travel to California to see my daughter and her boyfriend when they get a place together, We live in a resort town in Michigan so we rarely go anywhere in the summer anyway because we always have people coming to stay with us. We are both fully vaccinated and have already had breakthrough Covid cases. Mine felt like a mild cold for about 3 days and my husband had more of a “man cold” for a week. Our worst symptom was the loss of smell and taste. We are big foodies and missed those senses!

We had planned to go to Italy end of August, to Aruba end of October and Mexico in December.
We’ve cancelled Italy - it’s heartbreaking but I don’t feel like it’s a good idea. Instead we’re driving to the east coast and spending visiting family we haven’t seen in 2 years.
We still plan on Aruba since their numbers are still good. Mexico is up in the air but I’m not optimistic.

I’m currently at a work conference in Atlanta. I few in a few days early to see my brother. Hung out with SIL and nibbling because all of my brothers work backups are out with covid in their house…so he didn’t get his days off. Off to the conference. Atlanta has a mask mandate indoors, but you would never know based on the 75% of conference attendees not wearing masks.
I’ve arranged for my too-young-to-be-vaxxed kid to stay with my mom until I can test 5 days after getting home to ensure I don’t bring anything to him.

We literally just got home from Utah. We flew from DTW to SLC. We hadn't seen my step kids / DH's oldest kids since summer 2019. They're now almost 16 and 18 and vaccinated. We did take our 2.5 and 5.5 year olds who wore masks on the plane... I am glad we went but obviously my excitement could change if I find out any of us get sick in the next couple weeks.
Initially we had a layover in Texas but when AA/Spirit had issues after a storm I got cold feet and we changed to direct Delta flights. That made me feel better with less travel time and less or a chance of getting stuck in an airport.

I’m supposed to go to Nova Scotia next month for one of my best friend’s wedding. I’m fully vaccinated and have been back to wearing a mask and eating only outdoors. I really do not want to be on a plane and every time I go to book the flight, I just can’t pull the trigger. I have to make the decision soon and I just feel like I’ll probably end up missing it. I’m so sad and mad. I would not go to or spend money in Florida. We just flew to Nova Scotia from Vancouver last week. The plane was totally normal except for masks and far less talking / moving about / drinking / eating. Most people stayed put. It was very quiet. I never felt unsafe on the plane. Felt more nervous in the airport with so many people. Nova Scotia is amazing. They had 7 cases while we were there. It’s so breezy and easy going. Go and enjoy. We went to PEI as well. We are double vaxxed, had a PEI entry pass, and still needed to swab on entry.

We haven’t traveled at all during the pandemic but we are going to San Diego on Wednesday to meet friends from Oklahoma for the week. We’re all fully vaccinated and will be wearing masks and staying outdoors as much as possible. We have a nonstop flight from Austin but I am starting to feel a little nervous about the flight. All of our other trips have been canceled or postponed.

We are staying domestic. We just travelled across country to pick up one dd. We would love to travel to the states but won’t right now. I wanted to go to Mexico with the kids over winter break but won’t book yet. Our travel agent advises us against booking now. She said resort staff go home at the end of the day so it’s not safe yet.

My father found out about the first FL trip today and flipped out. I can't remember the last time I've seen him this angry, certainly never at me! He said it's irresponsible and selfish and basically means the sacrifices of the last year and a half to stay safe were pointless. And... even after all of that, I still feel okay with my decision to go. Am I being naive? Are you rethinking fall and winter travel with the rise of Delta? I'm a foreigner, whose state is very quick to lock down, so take this with a grain of salt...... There is no fkn way I would be setting foot in Florida anytime soon. My whole damn state was put into lockdown because we were getting twenty or so new COVID cases every day. Florida has been getting 21,000 new cases. I don't know why anyone would want to risk that cesspit, even if you're fully vaccinated.

The beach I'd be ok with- Disney no. My kids and I went to the beach at the beginning of July (Destin area, we drove) and OMG. I've gone to a lot of different Florida beaches at all times of the year, and I have never seen it so crowded. I am vaccinated, as are my kids, but my anxiety was sky high just walking on the beach because of the crowds. You could barely walk on the beach it was so crowded. I honestly couldn't wait to get home. Maybe it has calmed down now. We did Destin for spring break (March) and it was deserted. The beach closest to us was empty and the life guards said there is normally not enough room for chairs. We lucked out.

I wouldn't plan a trip in a Disney parklike setting. We've gone and spent a lot of time outdoors and in places that don't involve crowds or hotels.

I am currently booked on a flight in October to Niagara Falls. Since it is southwest, we can always get a flight credit if things continue to deteriorate more between now and then. Stacy

I have been doing the travel I have been doing since this started, which is renting houses in pretty places we can drive to where we don’t eat indoors in restaurants and keep to ourselves. I have four unvaccinated kids.
I did take my first flight since this started, alone. I would not go anywhere like Florida where ICU beds are flooded.

Maybe diff beaches but we are in destin now- we got a large condo and have eaten mostly in the room and the hotel has a private beach that makes it easy to to stay distanced. We went to okaloosa island and it was also pretty low key and there were only 2 other families there. We went out to dinner twice- once in a nearly empty restaurant with porch seating and once indoors at a place with giant windows that were open, had every other table blocked, and that we feel had taken appropriate precautions. There are definitely lots of people who give no shits. We are just avoiding them and the places they are encouraged.

the biggest problem in traveling to hot spots like florida, mississippi, etc. is if you have a serious medical emergency or a car accident or stroke or a fall.. the hospitals have no room for you and you are more likely to die. how are you going to get help?

I'm grateful some of you mentioned the KN95 masks for air travel. I have plenty of the usual blue masks but I just ordered some KN95 masks for the actual plane trips. Thanks, Peas!

I picked one up ($20 for 2 tests with results in 15 min) after I got back from my trip with DD just to be sure because I don't want to be the asshole who gets someone else sick. If you do an OTC test, how are the results added to the official numbers and to your own medical records? Just asking out of curiosity. Australia only uses PCR tests, despite the fact that an Australian company Ellume received US govt funding to make one of the tests for the US, and was the first company to get FDA approval for OTC covid tests. Apparently the company is opening a manufacturing facility in the US too.

As far as I know, they are meant for private use (peace of mind, if you like) and are not considered official in any way. You can't use them for work, to fly, enter a sporting venue etc that requires a negative test. If you test positive on one of them, you are supposed to follow up with an official test - whether a rapid response or a PCR - at a proper test center.

If you do come to Florida, bring your own nurse in case you get sick. Ours are all too busy to take care of you.
We were supposed to go to Jazzfest in New Orleans but it’s cancelled.

We have resumed travel, sort of. We flew to the States in May for our DD’s graduation. At that time, vaccinations=free to go. The mask mandate was lifted while we were there, but we continued to mask. Particularly because we weren’t fully vaccinated (I had a week to go, DH hadn’t had #2 yet) and partially because we wanted to be darn sure that we could fly back to Belgium. If we had tested positive, we would have had to quarantine in a hotel.
Here in Belgium, we have traveled a bit. But we’ve only done tours where you need a timed entry and low crowds. When we did the Louvre, we deliberately chose quiet areas. We ate outdoors and wore masks when in any sort of crowd. Also, most places require proof of vaccination here to be admitted. We did a chocolate making tour last week and the group was only 5 (one other couple) and we were all vaccinated, for which we had to show proof. Same with the cremont tour in Luxembourg, the Louvre, etc.
My big issue will be our day to day life. Kids here start school today; luckily they are all required to wear masks. I am very, very reluctant to begin restarting normal life with school and activities starting up here.
