We canceled all of our trips and plans through the summer and rebooked everything for the fall. I have two beach trips to FL planned with girlfriends and we have a family trip planned to Disney in early December. I've been feeling okay with continuing these plans, we're all vaccinated, we're going to be mostly outside and masked when we are inside at places like the grocery store. I even purchased protective eyewear to wear on the planes.
My father found out about the first FL trip today and flipped out. I can't remember the last time I've seen him this angry, certainly never at me! He said it's irresponsible and selfish and basically means the sacrifices of the last year and a half to stay safe were pointless. And... even after all of that, I still feel okay with my decision to go. Am I being naive? Are you rethinking fall and winter travel with the rise of Delta?

I'm not travelling right now. We're never going to get through this if people keep living their lives like everything is back to normal. And I certainly wouldn't be going to a State that has massive problems due to Covid.
But that's me.

I'm traveling to NYC in October and hoping everything will be open and accessible. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable traveling right now though.

We are traveling. We are vaxxed and wear masks. So far, since Spring we've been to Florida, Utah, South Texas, Las Vegas and Nashville. We go to Hawaii in two weeks. I will say that we are tested weekly through DH's work so I know before leaving that we are not sick.
We have a trip to Mexico planned but *I* am not comfortable traveling international just yet. I don't want to risk getting sick + being stuck somewhere.

I’m supposed to leave for FL in a little over a week for a girls trip and I told my husband this afternoon that I am not going. It just doesn’t feel safe to me. I’m vaccinated, but I got the J&J shot 5 months ago, but this Delta is no joke. I’m ok if I am being overly cautious.

I swear I'm not trying to justify it but the rate of transmission is the same in my area as it is in Florida right now. And if I'm going to only do outdoor activities and not anything high risk like eat in a restaurant or go to a bar, is it really that much more of a risk than every time I go to the grocery store at home? I guess I don't have a real sense for the risk profile for vaccinated people in the current scenario and what we should be changing vs. where we were a month ago.

In my opinion, anyone traveling to these hot spots is a fool.

We’re supposed to be going on an Alaskan cruise in a month - booked last February when we assumed it would be safe by September. If it were just DH and me going I would postpone, but my dad planned and payed for it and is so excited to take us on his favorite cruise. We’re all vaccinated and have to show a negative COVID test done within three days of embarkation. But yeah, I’m nervous about it. I’ll talk to my dad in a week or so and see how things look and if he’d be willing to postpone it.

Right now, no we are not. I don’t want to deal with flying right now and I don’t like to travel in the summer anyways, so I don’t feel like we are missing out on anything. We are looking in the late fall, maybe a Vegas trip. And then in January, a Hawaii trip. But, nothing is booked yet. It all depends what the Covid situation is like. I really want to travel internationally, but no plans for 2021 or early 2022.

Delta has shown itself to be way worse than the original Alpha virus. Due to this, I am not comfortable with making fall/winter travel, even though we are vaccinated and doing all the "right" things.
If we were still dealing with the original virus (and vaccinated), I would not feel this way and would happily travel.

I wouldn’t and I especially I wouldn’t feel comfortable traveling south. I don’t want to give any money to people are acting like covid isn’t happening or encourage others to travel there. I know there are good people who live there and who are trying to follow the rules but I take one look at that map and I’m just sickened.

The beach I'd be ok with- Disney no. Even though the rides are outdoors I can't image how to social distance. How are you going eat there if not going into restaurants?

I live in FLA -- I wish everyone would just stay put right now. Between the amount of residents who apparently don't care to vax/mask and the constant influx of tourists coming and going -- it's going to take a lot to get us out of the red zone.
My BFF and I live in different cities in FL and had planned to go to the beach together in Sept -- mostly being outside the whole time. We have cancelled even that trip until things settle down. Now is not the right time.

We recently went to the East Coast to check out our new house thats being built. I flew United and everyone was masked. All service people in restaurants that we went to in Maryland wore masks. Nothing was crowded and mostly outside. I don’t know if I would go to Florida. It’s such a hotbed of disease. I’m iffy on DWorld. Outside is OK but think of how they cram people into lines and seating inside. I’d be very hesitant.

Now is not the right time. My cousin in Hawaii feels the same way. She wants locals to stay home (don’t go to the Mainland) and tourist to stay away. Cases are the highest it has ever been for them right now. She has already canceled her trip to California in September.

DH and I are going to Gulf Shores next month, but we are staying in a rented house on the beach and will be bringing our own food in and doing takeout. So we really won’t see anyone. The only thing is that I was going to drive down a few days early and visit my Dad on the way and then pick my DH up at the airport in Mobile. But we are rethinking having him fly and he might just go when I do.

The beach I'd be ok with- Disney no. My kids and I went to the beach at the beginning of July (Destin area, we drove) and OMG. I've gone to a lot of different Florida beaches at all times of the year, and I have never seen it so crowded. I am vaccinated, as are my kids, but my anxiety was sky high just walking on the beach because of the crowds. You could barely walk on the beach it was so crowded. I honestly couldn't wait to get home. Maybe it has calmed down now.

I was seriously considering a direct flight from my smaller regional airport to National in DC to be with my family for Thanksgiving. I am more concerned with transmitting the Delta variant to them, even with all of us being vaccinated, because of the ridiculously unmasked student population that I was exposed to today at my first day back to school. Not that I was surprised. I will have to wait and see what the numbers are as it gets closer. I am in one of the southern hotspots that has consistently broken hospitalization records over the last week or so, including last Friday, the day that my school board stupidly voted against mandating masks. Morons…

I live in Florida - don't come here PLEASE. Numbers are horrendouis, vaccination rates are low, hardly anyone masks, and the hospitals are FULL.
No I'm not travelling and have no plans to do so. Yes I'm vaccinated and still masking/social distancing.

We traveled over the summer - we went to see family in California and went to the Caribbean. Things are much worse now with Delta. We will be traveling this week to drop our kids of at their universities, but there's just no way I'd plan a vacation to Florida right now. We have a trip planned in mid-September back to the Caribbean - we'll have to see how things develop.

And... even after all of that, I still feel okay with my decision to go. Am I being naive? Are you rethinking fall and winter travel with the rise of Delta? In a week and a half we are traveling to Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee. We may also stop in Georgia before heading to our winter home in Florida. We are both vaxxed and wear masks when asked/required. We feel perfectly comfortable traveling as we've planned but have no desire to fly anywhere, nationally or internationally. We also eat out fairly frequently. The sacrifices of the last year and a half were because people were not vaccinated so your father is incorrect that your trips invalidate those sacrifices. I keep reading that the majority of people being affected by Delta are those that are unvaxxed. Those that are not currently vaccinated have either chosen to not be vaxxed or they cannot be vaxxed due to medical issues. I have no sympathy for the first group and am not going to restrict my activities because of their ignorance. I sympathize with the second group but, really, there's not much I can do for them beyond wearing a mask when asked/required and I don't have a problem with doing so. Is there a small chance I can get really sick/die from Delta? Possibly. There's also a small chance I can die every time I get in a car and I'm certainly not going to stop driving or riding in cars. Everyone I know who visited Disney during Covid (and that was pre-vax) said they felt more comfortable there than in their local grocery store due to the precautions Disney took. To my knowledge not one of them got Covid at Disney. I don't think you're being naive. I also don't think you're irresponsible or selfish; you're vaxxed. The irresponsible and selfish people are the people that can receive the vax but choose not to. I would, however, get a Covid test when you return home so you don't unknowingly transmit Covid to someone that's not vaxxed. If I worked, I also might take a few extra days off until I received the Covid test results.

The first trip is to Cocoa beach to my friend's condo which houses only long term/permanent residents (no tourist rentals) and no public parking; it is never crowded on her beach, there is actually rarely anyone out there on the beach other than walkers. But the image you painted sounds like a nightmare even in non-Covid times.

I think if you're being as safe as you can be while you're doing your traveling and trips, then yes, I would travel. I will be traveling out of state (via plane) a couple times in the next month, actually, and I won't be canceling those trips. They're more 'necessary' than just 'for fun' but still... It's not people who are being responsible that are the issue with Delta (from what I understand); it's the unvaccinated who are causing the surges and the massive increase in hospitalizations. If you're wearing masks, sanitizing, distancing, etc. then I don't see 'you' as a problem with Delta. I don’t want to give any money to people are acting like covid isn’t happening or encourage others to travel there. ^^^ this, however, is a VERY good point. By going to Florida, it sort of 'validates' DeSantis's idiot policies, in a way. I'd have to think long and hard about traveling to a state like that right now-- if I did NOT go, it wouldn't be so much due to being afraid of COVID for myself, but more for the fact that I'd be giving my travel $$$ to the state which seems like giving tacit approval of their handling of the situation. The more I think about it, if it was Florida, I would NOT go-- not unless it was necessary.

I wouldn't go to Florida (and a few other states) right now if you paid me.
DH and I are going to Niagara Falls in September, in our province about 6 hours drive away, staying at a Hilton. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary and had planned on Ireland but have put that off for a while.
