They always say the last 10 pounds are the hardest to get off. Boy is that ever true! My SO and I are going on a trip soon and celebrating our relationship. I bought a great little dress to wear, found a salon there and getting my hair and makeup done.
Well, wouldn't you know it...I've gained 10 pounds and don't fit in the dress. I'm only 4'11" tall so every pound shows on me. I had gastric bypass in 2010 and lost 155 pounds. I've kept every bit of it off all these years and really only fluctuated 5 pounds. I don't know what has changed or why I've suddenly gained. I still follow my bypass diet and eat tiny portions and pretty healthy foods.
I honestly don't know how to get this extra little bit of weight off. I've been trying for 2 weeks now and nothing. With my short stature, I seriously look 6 months pregnant. We leave in 2 weeks and I'm desperate to fit in my dress. I've tried all sorts of spanx/shapewear and it's not helping. The dress isn't made to where it can be let out. I took it to a tailor hoping it could be.
Please give me some ideas on how I can lose this weight. I eat very little, I cut out all snacking, I'm drinking more water and exercising as much as I can, but that's mainly just walking. I was in a car accident and can't do any of my regular exercise, absolutely no lifting or weights can be used until I get fully healed.
I've tried eating more at each meal and tried eating more often to see if that would jump start my metabolism, but absolutely no movement on the scales. What have you found that works to get 10 pounds off? It really doesn't sound like much but trust me, on my little frame it's a ton.
Seriously can't believe this has happened to me now of all times!

10 pounds in two weeks is a lot!
I have friends who cut weight for competitions. I would try to lose water weight. Look up water cut weight loss. Basically, starting about 7 days out, you drink a ton of water. Over the next few days you gradually cut down. On the last day, you drink no water. You are basically fooling your body into thinking you’ll be drinking more water than you need and you’ll keep peeing. Another thing my friends do, which I don’t, is to take laxatives.
Good luck!

I would concentrate on water weight as well for a quick ‘fix’, cut out a lot of sodium. The thing is, once you start eating and drinking more on your vacation it will come back. Any way to wear the dress the first night in? Or, are shaping garments a possibility? Depending on how you’d like the evening to progress they might not be the sexy option you’d like, but you could always have better lingerie waiting in the bathroom for when you return. And, just want to make sure you know you’re much more conscious of this than he will be, right?*** Not the point of the post but I wanted to throw it out there. Maybe buy a special new bra to draw his eyes up. You’ll already be confident of your face & hair. Or a garter belt that cover more area.
I also wanted to say congratulations on maintaining your weight loss! And I hope you heal quickly from your accident.
***eta: I hope it doesn’t come across as if I dismissing your feelings. I’m not, they are entirely valid. Just wanted to send a quick reminder that what you notice and what he notices are likely 2 very different things.
ugh, upon rereading I notice you already mentioned spanx. Dang.

Losing that much weight in that short of time is unhealthy.
I don’t recommend any diet without medical advice but did notice your comment on gastric bypass.
Did you use the liver shrink diet before? I know that diet is used for that sometimes. I have had success with losing that amount of weight in a short time in the past.

I hope this doesn’t sound snarky, but honestly, just wear another dress. 10 pounds in two weeks is not realistic, healthy, or sustainable. Don’t let fitting into a dress stress you out and just enjoy your weekend away!

Not the answer you might want to hear, but can you get the dress in a larger size?
FWIW, eliminating all grains and alcohol might help for a short term, quick loss. Stick to lean proteins and vegetables for a week.
Sorry to hear about your accident.

If the dress is still available, I would buy another one in the size that fits you and enjoy. I know that’s easier said than done. Have fun!!

Why don’t you get a dress that fits you now and enjoy the next couple weeks looking forward to your trip. No sense making yourself miserable for something that’s supposed to be fun.

Well I agree with buying a new dress.
But if you can eat strict low carb (google “south beach diet phase 1” - which lasts exactly 2 weeks) you can lose close to 10lb - and it will be a ton of water weight.

Another voice saying: buy another dress and don’t make yourself miserable. If the weight hasn’t been budging, it isn’t going to suddenly come off. And you should just be excited about the upcoming trip, not worrying!

Honestly I would just buy a different dress. Losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks is unrealistic and unhealthy. Get a great dress that fits you now and makes you feel fabulous, enjoy your trip and celebrate your relationship.

If you actually look pregnant, maybe you are constipated. Do a cleanse, but I also think you should just buy another dress and stop stressing. Ten lbs in 2 weeks is unrealistic and almost impossible to do unless you're very overweight or retaining a lot of fluid.

When did the dress last fit? Is the weight concentrated on your midsection? If yes, and the weight has been gained over a short period of time, please see a doctor. I'm concerned that there may be a serious medical reason underlying this, serious as in gynaecological issues requiring surgery, or ovarian cancer.

I also don’t think eating more and eating more often is going to help - it’s going to make you gain more. I think if you just eat less and cut out bread and crackers etc you could easily lose 5lb which would make a pretty big difference.

I would look at a low residue diet to clear any excess from your intestines. Maybe start with a juice cleanse.

The whole notion of “jump starting” one’s metabolism has little science to support it. Exercise more, get enough sleep, and eat fewer calories without starving oneself. news.umiamihealth.org/en/can-you-really-jumpstart-your-metabolism/

I don't have any weight loss advice, but I'm here to validate your feelings.
It's easy to say "don't stress over it" or "buy another dress".
Having had gastric bypass myself (back in 2003), I know what gaining weight and not being able to loose it can do to someone mentally and emotionally.
I'm currently going through the same thing. Came back from a five week vacation where I didn't watch what I ate, and where I didn't work out at all. Injured my foot, so I am just now getting back into working out (after almost three months of no exercise). We have our annual Crocktoberfest party coming up in about five weeks, and I am freaking out about what people will think about the 15 pounds I have gained, and about how I won't fit into any of my Dirndl dresses.
It doesn't matter how many times I am assured that nobody will care, and that I look great etc.... I can't turn off my feelings. That's the thing with gastric bypass surgery: it is a wonderful and amazing tool.... but it doesn't change what's going on in your head!
I am sorry you're having such a hard time losing those ten pounds. I wish I had a surefire way to get rid of that extra weight. Unfortunately, I don't. But I'm here to say that you're not alone, and that I totally get where you're coming from, because I can relate to your situation.
Good luck, and have a blast on vacation!!!

I agree to buy a new dress for your trip. What I found helped change the shape of my body was changing everything up. If you walk all the time, find something else you could do, like bike riding. Maybe yoga? Change how you eat. If you have the same type of meals every day, switch to eating something else. If I have toast for breakfast, then I try not to have any type of bread/processed food at lunch. For dinner we are used to having a side dish of pasta, potatoes or rice. I would cut that out and replace with vegetables and fruit.

I think the stress of trying to get those 10 lbs off in such a short period of time will not help either.
I know it's not the answer you want to hear, but buy another dress. You'll end up so much happier.
If you are eating low quantities already, eating less isn't going to help. You probably need some exercise, which you can't do right now, so that's not helping either. You're in a true no-win and it absolutely sucks.
I'm sorry, but I do hope you have a good time on your vacation either way!

If I attempted that feat, I would be miserable and hungry and most likely wouldn't lose enough in two weeks. Then two days before the trip, I would order a few things with one-day shipping and spend hours at the mall also and wish I had gone shopping the week before. Then I'd put on the new dress and my dh would say, "You look fantastic!"
But that's me. Whatever happens, I hope you feel good in what you're wearing, and have a wonderful time.

I agree that the OP's feelings are certainly valid. But committing to losing the weight over a reasonable period of 2 months, rather than in a panic of 2 weeks, will keep the ultimate goal in mind without feeling like shit before and during a really special vacation. She can work on her thoughts and feelings about it -- commit to longer term goals -- and look forward to a really special time. It really will be okay. Same with your extra 15 pounds, and my 20. I'm totally working on my head as much as my butt.

I hear you. I bought an expensive dress for an important event while at my lowest weight. Three months later nearing the time of the event, was up 8 lbs. I WAS NOT going to “buy another dress”, as I wanted to wear this one. Went on a three week crash diet, <900 cals/day, no carbs, no booze, no breakfast. Dropped 10 lbs in 14 days. Fit in the dress and went on with my life.
Do what ya gotta, I say.

Too little food can stall weight loss
Can you do chair yoga?
10 lbs in 2 weeks is tough, especially if you don't have a lot to change. You could very strict keto, but even then it may not work.
I would not risk my health for a dress.
Work on losing the weight, but have a backup plan. Also it may be if you lose 4-5 lbs, which is more doable, the dress will look better

Will you fit in the dress with shapewear if you only lose 5 lbs? Because 5 lbs in 2 weeks is doable, IMO, without being crazy unhealthy.
Losing weight is calories in vs calories out. Cut your calories and eat mostly lean meat and vegetables (and fruit, if your body allows) for every meal. You can probably lose about 5 lbs with 1,100 calories per day.

I would cut the carbs (breads, pasta, sugar, rice, etc), drink only water, intermittent fast and get some shapewear.

"Don't eat too little" "Don't eat too much" "You'll ruin your metabolism" "you'll jump start your metabolism" and the best one "muscle weighs more than fat" Two or three weeks of aggressive low calorie intake will NOT mess with your metabolism. It takes more than two weeks to alter your metabolism. ETA - I am not a WL patient, so my experience is a bit different than the OP. I kinda missed that the first read. So, grain of salt and all that. I'm pretty used to flames lol And have zero fucks to give, frankly. The opinion of random people on the internet rank fairly low on the importance scale.

Gastric bypass (18 years ago) person chiming in. If you (155 lbs down, 4'11, last lbs to lose) drop 10 lbs in 2 weeks you wont be well enough to enjoy this special occasion that you and your SO are celebrating your relationship. Celebrating honors your relationship. Honor yourself and buy another dress. I wouldn't even focus on losing weight. You have done that. It sounds like you have done and are doing all you can do. Sometimes we have a number or a size in our head as our goal.....let it go for a short term goal and enjoy your trip and this special time.
Long term....keep doing your thing and listen to your body.

OTish Except it’s not calories in calories out. Other than maybe in the very short term. The math is so logical, which is why the world thinks that, but the research doesn’t bear it out. A long article about the incredible lag in info about what actually happens physiologically vs. what the vast majority of people believe - including doctors - was recently in my news feed. A doc at Johns Hopkins told me the same years ago. www.statnews.com/2021/09/13/how-a-fatally-tragically-flawed-paradigm-has-derailed-the-science-of-obesity/To the OP, to your eyes you look pregnant but I bet others would not think so. Regardless, maybe three pounds would do the trick. Whatever you choose to do, please do it safely. Like freecharlie said, eating too little can stall weight loss; the body doesn’t know the difference between a diet and starvation.
