Is there a site you shop or your friends do frequently? I have a TON of clothes that I am ready to let go of this month but I'm looking to see if I can sell them before I drop them at a consignment shop (I think the one here only gives you store credit. I don't need anything new at all.)
Most of them are workwear/professional and from White House Black Market, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, etc and they're barely worn because my size changed so frequently before my surgeries.
I know you can sell clothes on e-bay but where else are people shopping gently used these days? Also, is there a vintage site that is popular? l'm in a heavy debate with myself about if I want to let go of some things from middle school and if i'll ever wear them again if I keep them.
I think the plan is to sell as much as I can and then donate the rest to an organization that helps women dress for job interviews. I hope there is one semi-local!

Depop is a great place to sell vintage but like poshmark it takes a lot of work to build a following and get sales.
DH does a lot of reselling - we post vintage and luxury brands predominantly on Ebay. Work wear and denim we have had good luck on Facebook Marketplace and you can offer shipping so its not just local sales anymore.
The trendier brands we take to Platos Closet and then sell what's left at garage sales.

I've never sold there, but what about Plato's Closet?

One of the things I have from middle school is a guess jeans Mens denim jacket that is in like new condition. I got it for my birthday in 1992ish and it didn't fit at all so I never wore it but I loved it hanging in my closet all these years

I've never sold there, but what about Plato's Closet? It looks like there is one about 45 minutes from me, looking into it now! Thank you!

Plato's Closet is ok -- but they tend to only take current trend type stuff and often it is more of a "juniors/college" age styles/sizes (at least the one here is that way). Have you thought about posting any of it on FB Marketplace? That may or may not be worth the hassle of having to deliver/meet up with anyone buying but sometimes it moves things quickly.

I don’t think Plato’s Closet will take WHBM clothing. DD tried to sell some of her clothes (a lot of it was Ann Taylor stuff) and they only took the Old Navy, Forever 21, Ambercrombie type brands. Think teen styles. Clothes Mentor took a lot of her items, but probably paid $10 max for an item. They also never took more than $100 worth of clothes at a time. So every week she would go in and drop a few more items off.

I can't speak to on-line options but I've tried 4 consignment stores and this is what I've learned. Pick a consignment store where you would buy clothes. Ask what percentage you get and how soon they discount. If the store is crammed full of clothes already, yours won't stand out. If it is one that buys things outright, you won't get much for the items. They may say they only want things that are 3 years old but if the product is really nice and a label that sells (here that is Chicos or Talbots) they will take and sell older items. Pay attention to the season. Consign only a few items - 10-15 things to see how a store does with your items. Keep your expectations low. Consignment is way better for the purchaser than the seller.
To sell my mother's things, I didn't even bother with the local stores where we had had such poor results in the past. I went to a store that sold higher end items in a higher income area - which is about an hour from me. Even so in the spring I took 30 items, they kept 11 and I got less than $70 for those. The fall stuff is doing better. They kept more and my account has almost that much money in it for only 6 items. We sold a lot of Mother's clothes at the estate sale and I think we did just as good or better which surprised me. Her clothes tended more toward fall and winter styles.

Plato's Closet was a waste of time for us.. very picky in what they took. Had to be less than 2 years old (or something like that).. We brought in tons of stuff and they picked ONE shirt. We brought in good decent things. Then if you looked at the racks of clothing the majority of it looked twenty times worse for wear than anything we tried to bring in.
Poshmark has been SUPER great for my DD. She does do a lot of work on it, but she almost gets full price on everything. I give her my plus size clothes and she says mine sell more often than some of her stuff. Pink, fancy leggings are her biggest sellers, then my stuff, which is all just normal department store stuff.
She details them really good. Good pictures.

I've never sold there, but what about Plato's Closet? Plato’s Closet is more for teens/young adult. Their sister store, Style Encore, will take all of the brands you mentioned. I resell clothes at Style Encore all the time. The one thing to remember is you will only get 10%-20% of what you originally paid back from Style Encore. I don’t personally care… I’m just happy to have more room in my closet! But I mention it so you’re not surprised.

Don’t do Plato’s Closet — they will buy one item for like a dollar.
Poshmark has been pretty good in my experience. I’ve only sold a few things on there, but I got a decent price for all of them.

I've been buying some clothes on mercari and poshmark. I like mercari better because there are a variety of postage rates. Last time I shopped poshmark, shipping on everything is a flat $7.50 or something. Sellers CAN offer a discount, which usually results is 4.99 shipping, which is fine, but both mercari shipping prices seem to start lower in general.
I also think mercari sellers are a little more realistic on item prices in general and as a buyer, I just like mercari's site/app better.

I think here, the sister store to Plato’s is Clothes Mentor. Steph, there is a clothes mentor on Henderson near the thrift stores and I think there may be one in Pickerington or Gahanna. I’ve had good luck on local Facebook groups. Happy selling!

Steph, if you are coming up to the Dayton area any time soon, I would try Lorelei’s Boutique in Centerville. In the Cincinnati area, try The Snooty Fox. Both are consignment stores.

Lancaster has the Dress Code, which carries some really nice clothing. And Plato's Closet is also in Pickerington/R'burg. Clothes Mentor and Plato's are extremely exclusive -- they rejected items of DD's that were new with tags and very recent. I've never really understood their selection decisions.

I’d say Mercari, Thredup or Poshmark.

I have used ThredUP quite a bit. You don’t make a ton of money, but it’s minimal work. You make a bit more if you get a gift card, like Athleta, instead of cash.

Thank you for all the suggestions-- I had a few people ask for dibs and for shipping so I went ahead and just took pics as i pulled it out of the closet. it's moving well enough that I'm going to continue and then donate the business clothes to a place that helps women dress for interviews, and the rest to a local veterans place.
183 items sold so far, this is kind of fun!
