We will be in LA over winter break and will have an opportunity to go to Disneyland the week after New Years (after school is back in session). Has anyone been back? Does it feel safe?
We live in an area with over 90% vaccine rate in those eligible plus we have a vaccine mandate for everything, so we feel safe out and about. Our Covid cases in our health authority are low and not increasing even though we now have large events, etc. Personally, we still don’t take our masks off indoors or in crowds and we don’t eat inside, but show our vaccine card to eat in patios or go to a movie. I don’t know how I’d feel in a different situation. Is Disney a silly idea. I figure we’re outside most of the time or inside in a mask or on a ride in a mask. But is there something I’m not thinking through, like huge numbers of unvaxxed people.
ETA - was a park hopper ticket worth it now. Can you go back and forth between parks?

We're going in December. We've all had the boosters though so our situation is different. The only people I know who have been there so far this year have all had Covid already and been vaccinated. My friend who is a Disney TA is one of those people and she said after their trip in August that she would NOT have been comfortable if they hadn't already had Covid.

For us, only dh has had a booster as it has been a year since his first two doses. The rest of us can get the booster two weeks before we go, at 6 months. But studies here show immunity isn’t waning after 6 months which is great. My dad is over 80 and is in an antibody study which is also showing no waning immunity. Although he is at 6 months next week and can still get a booster. I only know a handful of people who have had Covid.

I went to Disneyland at the end of July. We took our own hand sanitizer bottles and used them often (adults are vaccinated, teens had at least had 1 of their shots). They do have many stations around the park, but we found several empty ones. I felt safe there. While there was a lot of people, it was pretty easy to keep a distance. the most crowded area we were in was when we watched the fireworks. Download the app, mobile ordering for food is the way to go. Have fun!

We went to DisneyWorld and Universal in June and going back to WDW in December. I get my booster this week. We felt fine at both parks.

Just make sure you get tickets and reservations ahead of time. If you are interested in riding Rise of the Residence (a MUST!) Read up on the virtual queue process. The Genie+ is not here, yet, but possibly any day now so not sure how that will change things. There are currently no more fastpasses for any ride, but there are still single rider lines if that works for your group.

The parks are packed now to pre-covid levels even with reservations. The days of 35% capacity and spreading out are long gone. A lot of people do not wear masks outside but I do despite being vaccinated. They are back to normal operating protocols such as filling in all available space. They are strict about masks indoors and they do enforce it (even on a dark ride like Haunted Mansion they have made announcements to pull up your mask if someone snuck theirs down).
I don't feel unsafe there, I just don't want you going thinking it's all sanitizer stations and low capacity.
Passholder reservations are booked to the max for the most part (they just barely opened up some more days in December) and I don't see crowds slowing down at all.
Now that the parks are open to out of state visitors and international travelers it's gonna be a zoo for awhile.

Do not go OP if you're expecting low crowds.

I have a friend that's in Disneyland now. She posted a video of people in lines (outside) and looks like a majority of them are not wearing masks.

We went in early September and it was amazing! Most rides were walk ons or just short waits. Unfortunately, it's more crowded now, so you won't have the same experience.
We thought about cancelling our trip, but opted to just go and make the most of it. We lost two loved ones in the last year and really needed some fun back in our lives! All of of us were vaccinated or we would have never considered going. The crowds were pretty low, so we felt that we were able to manage keeping our distance a lot of the time. We kept our masks on while there. We either ate outdoors, or picked indoors that looked like there was a table off to itself. We ate at Sci Fi and there was enough space between the cars that we felt comfortable dining indoors there. We sanitized tables when we sat down to eat. Maybe it was overkill, but I was a germaphobe even before the pandemic, so I always did this. And of course we sanitized our hands often.

My kids haven't been vaccinated, so no -- they got their first dose last weekend. Once they are fully vaccinated, we'll assess. There are other places we haven't been going that I'd rather go first, but I do want to make sure my 15-year-old gets to go again before he graduates HS.

we have been a few times and will go next week again. they enforce the mask when you are in indoor lines but no so much when you are standing outside. they don't ask for proof of vaccine. the park is as busy as ever so social distancing is almost impossible. i still enjoy going to the park though.

We are going to Walt Disney World right before Christmas, a trip deferred from last year. We are planning to use Genie+/Lightning Lane to cut down on time spent hanging out in lines next to groups of strangers, no indoor shows and no indoor dining, though we probably wouldn’t do that even without covid. I’m ok with outdoor activities like parades and fireworks and will mask up anywhere I feel uncomfortable.
This will be our first international trip since 2019 and on the one hand it feels weird to be planning it, but on the other hand, I feel like it’s time to get back out there.

Friends just returned from DL. They said they would not go back, primarily because of how wearing a mask is just such a pain when you are doing so all day and combined with all the activity.
They are both vaccinated and mask wearers. It was just the all day thing was a pain.

Right now with the holidays it is super busy. Hard to say exactly how busy it will be the first week of Jan. But right now most of those days have open reservations for pass holders. Not sure when the holiday decor comes down.

We have not, BUT, it would be WDW for us, not DL. We had a trip planned for late summer 2020, but have since postponed it 2 more times. It's now on the books for late summer of next year.
For us, personally, we didn't want to be paying more than ever to have what we would consider to be a reduced experience.

I've been several times, also a magic key holder. Masks are only worn inside the stores and on inside rides, - think Haunted Mansion, Pirates etc. Been vaxed. If you go the week of Jan 9 is should be not be over crowded, the kids are back in school and the tourists have gone. Although the park will have shorter hours and some rides may be closed. If you plan on MLK weekend it will be busy.

Yes, we were in WDW August this past Summer. It was extremely crowded & felt like a normal park day, just with masks indoors. Nobody had them on outside (well I shouldn't say nobody, but the majority did not).

I just got back from WDW. Some days were super crowded, probably because it was the Wine & Dine race weekend. Masks are rigorously enforced indoors. Castmembers turned stern quickly when someone didn't put one on. If I was in a crowd outdoors, I pulled my mask up.
I had fun for the most part, but declined to do Genie or pay extra for high demand rides. As resort guests, we could enter the parks 30 minutes early where we hoofed it to the big ticket rides and got on pretty quickly. I was told, but didn't confirm, that if you paid extra for those high demand rides and they broke down excessively where you didn't get to ride the attractions, you were out your extra money. I can't see that being true. People would flip out, especially since Rise of the Resistance goes down often. The day we were in Animal Kingdom, Everest was down most of the day. That's one they'll be refurbishing early next year for 3 months.

Although we do feel comfortable taking mask off outdoors if we are just talking to each other. We haven’t eaten indoors yet so don’t plan on doing that. But really my girls are used to masks all day because of school / after school activities and my dh has to wear a mask all day at work so he’s used to it. It’s really just me that isn’t used to it. And while wearing glasses it’s a pain.

We are going again tomorrow, my one and only goal is to see the Xmas parade. It was expect it to be crazy busy. My friend said she saw some where that DLR is at about 80% capacity compared to pre-pandemic.
