So heartbreaking…..and to find out they were basically victimized again by the system.

So heartbreaking to watch. She was so brave to come out and find help. I was shocked at the words they didn’t know like injuries, medications and bruises. Diane Sawyer did an amazing job interviewing them. I feel bad for all the kids/adults because it sounds like they are still struggling, trying to find housing and transportation. The state of California definitely failed them in regards to their after care.

yes so horrifying what they went through. I thought Diane was the perfect person to do the interview. I would have liked to heard more about how the girls have spent the last few years recovering and what their lives are like now. It was hard to believe that the older sister was twice the age of the one who went for help!

Their parents were sick. Probably the children of sick people, who were the children of sick people..... They were adherents of the Quiverfull movement and Pentecostalism. According to David's parents, the couple kept having children because "God called on them" to do so. Sick. abc7.com/perris-couple-turpins-children-shackled-torture/2950254/I didn't see the interview but will try to find it
So horrible. Their deputy public guardian needs to be fired (sounds like maybe she was, finally). These people should NOT be able to have a "job on the side".

The mother’s sister said that the mother had been sexually abused by the same person who sexually abused her mom. I just pray none of the Turpin kids were sexually abused on top of the isolation, neglect and abuse. I hope this show prompts the state of CA to get their crap together to help these siblings, and specifically those who aged out of the system. It would be an interesting case to follow to see how the kids progress/grow emotionally and mentally.

I watched, and was horrified. These poor kids have been failed by literally everyone around them. And to know that they’re still being failed now that they’re “free” is horrible.
She was very brave to escape that morning.

I saw part of it and it was heart-wrenching. Before the end I was thinking "I really hope they have a good support network because I can see these women being taken advantage of." Then they told the rest of the story where these kids have been completely failed. If a case with this much attention so wholly fails the children, just imagine how terrible things are for kids that no one knows about?
In law school, I worked in our child advocacy clinic as an ad litem for kids in foster care and our kids were the "lucky" ones because they had a pack of young, earnest students checking up on caseworkers, working to get the kids good placements, reviewing their medical records to make sure they were being treated properly (one of my kids was constantly drugged up on trazodone because she was "difficult" and we put an end to that and got her moved to another foster home).

I just watched. My first thought, religion is the root of all evil.
The system is so unbelievably broken. How horrific that these kids got out of that home and were completely abused again. I really hope this exposure of the system makes positive change.
I wish they’d start their own go fund me so they can get that money themselves.

Until someone honorable and trustworthy GoFundMe could also be used against them..

I really hope they have a good support network because I can see these women being taken advantage of." I thought the same thing. Those two girls seem so much younger than they are. I was shocked when they said the older one is 33. So heartbreaking...it makes you wonder if they will ever mature and really "catch up" emotionally. I cried my eyes out through most of the show. To know those disgusting parents hoarded food and toys and clothing while they starved their children and made them wear filthy clothes made me feel sick to my stomach. And the way the mom said to the kids, "your dad and I will be ok". UGH The horror they put those kids through is so mind boggling, and I hope they both live out the rest of their lives in agonizing misery. And to know that the systems that are supposed to help them have let them down, that is disgusting too. To know they were "rescued" but still don't have enough food or anywhere to live is so beyond awful. Those two girls are so brave for coming forward this way, and I can only hope that the attention from this show will improve their lives and futures. I was haunted by this story at the time it broke, and I know I will be haunted for a long time after watching 20/20 last night. I hope it haunts every person who has let them down, especially those who were/are in a position to help them.

No I haven't watched it. Wanted to but the last few days have been crazy. Is it anywhere online?
I hadn't heard the system failed them too. That's awful, I had hoped with all that attention they would get some real and lasting help.

Some of them have actually been homeless at times, and it was said that they mostly live in bad parts of the city and don't have enough to eat. They had a caseworker who was supposed to be managing things for them, because there was actually quite a bit of money to help them, but the case manager even denied one of the older boys a bicycle when he needed transportation. The ending of the show was so sad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that case manager embezzled the money. That situation is straight up shady.

This is what happens when parents SUCK at parenting and, to make matters worse, have FAR TOO MANY CHILDREN!!!! "Oh, people should be able to have as many children as they want/God gives them....."
BULLSHIT.
These children are broken for years, maybe for life. All because they never stood a chance with how they were brought into this world and by whom.
The greatest tragedy on earth is that any f(#$*er can have a child and then treat them like dirt. Sure, the parents may go to jail, but THE DAMAGE IS DONE.

The younger kids may have more of a chance to eventually live a somewhat "normal" life, but even some of them ended up in abusive foster homes. The older ones...I fear the damage runs too deep. They didn't mention if they are receiving therapy, but if they don't even have adequate food and places to live, I doubt they are getting the intensive therapy they need.

The really infuriating part is that their parents are getting better health and dental care, and the food might be better. They also have a known place to sleep.

I also thought they said that ABC had sued to get the records and find out how the money is being used. I hope they’re able to do it and will not be shocked if they find that’s the case.

It’s was a heartbreaking ending to everything they went through. There is some shady shit going on with the money collected and controlled by the county. That guardian should be cancelled, I know she was let go from the position.
I really hope this puts pressure on the county and state to fix their shit.

Now on YT I wonder how many who would only see the pictures of the matchy-matchy outfits and the fake smiles would look at these two horrible people as "good, loving Christian parents", would look at this family as "Oh, how wonderful. Have as many children as God provides." According to the girls.. “They literally used the Bible to explain their behavior to us,” Jennifer said. “They loved to point out things in Deuteronomy, saying that, ‘ We have the right to do this to you.’ … That they even had the right to kill us if we didn’t listen.” www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2021%3A18-21&version=KJV

I believe everything the kids say happened to them.
But some stuff makes me scratch my head. How did Jordan know what social media was, but not what a sidewalk was? She could post videos of herself singing but not call 911?
Also, the Vegas thing was actually two different videos from two different occasions. Watch the wife’s hair change color and length and Elvis’ jacket change colors. We know from when the case first broke that those freaks did the Vegas thing more than once. Why did 20/20 misrepresent it as one video/event? The manipulation of that made me suspicious of 20/20, not the kids. Like why was that manipulation necessary?

I watched it and just so sad about how they have been let down again... It was very interesting to watch how the girls acted.. some things they were so clueless about, even talking to a stranger. They do act so much younger... I kept wondering how they got the phones.. that was never clear was it?

They indicated that they were given by the parents to the older "trusted" children to help execute instructions when the parents were away from home.

They had those Instag of her trying to shill something, real estate I think. I hope her community calls her out. Unbelievable. I am so curious to see if that money that had been donated to them was mishandled or stolen? Why wouldn't their guardian give it to them? Maybe laziness to do her job, maybe she didn't feel like filling out paperwork, but I would think she had no way of stealing it and that it would require multiple approval levels to get the money released to the victims. Either way, she's a horrible worthless human being. The girls were so gentle and so softspoken, IDK how you go through all that they did and come out so sweet. At least they present themselves like that.

I was baffled by a few things- most notably, HOW could the older “kids” go to college and not report the horrific abuse of the small siblings at home? Plenty of opportunities!
Also yeah.. posting videos to social media but didn’t call 911. There must be more. I’d never try to assume that I know what that terror/control would be like.
