I saw a couple of people talking about movies and ticket costs...now i'm curious. How much does it cost to take your family to the movies? I don't know how we lucked out but we've got a great (super cheap apparently) theater around here so it's really a reasonable night out. We saw Mockingjay last night, my husband and I, our boys and then a friend, we ended up paying-
Movie ticket- $4 each (regular price, no matinees at this place) Sodas- $2 large, $1.50 medium, $1 small Popcorn- $3 large, $2 medium, $1 small Tenderloin sandwich- $3.50 French Fries- $2 Large Pizza- $5 hot dogs- $1 (with cheese, relish, ketchup, mustard) Movie Candy- $2 each.
I don't remember what combo of popcorn & drinks they had. I know we had a pizza, tenderloin, 2 hot dogs and fries and then 3 popcorns and 3 drinks and we got out of there with tickets included for less than $50.
It's been forever since we've gone to another theater without a groupon...what is normal cost for you?
Let's say for 2 tickets, a large popcorn and two medium drinks?
Our cost would be $14 for that combination.

Wow, that's cheap. Here, tickets are $10.50, small popcorn is $6.50 (+ $1 for each size increase), small soda is $5.50 (+1 $1 for each size increase). Candy is $4/each.
So, for two tickets plus a large popcorn and 2 medium drinks, it would be $42.50.

Tickets alone: $7.50 for all but one member of my family who gets in at the children's price. $42.50 total Popcorn and drink: $14 for the popcorn drink combo candy: $5
If we took our family to the movies and bought them all a popcorn we'd be looking at $150 for one two hour movie. We don't take the kids to the movies. ever.

It is a small fortune here. Five people. $11.50 per ticket. A large popcorn and two medium drinks is $18. Candy is like $4.50. It adds up quick.

It's not cheap, but we bring in our candy and do not buy popcorn, usually. We used to get a large $5 drink to share, but I don't drink Cokes anymore, so if I get anything, it's usually a $4 33 oz. water.
So, for DH and I, 2 tickets and a large water is around $22; $27, if we got popcorn and $30ish if DH got his own drink.

The last time I went to the movies with my husband it was $16.50 for a ticket (non-IMAX/3D/etc) and the single drink and medium popcorn was around $14.00. We don't go to the movies that often without a gift card.

If we paid regular price, it would be about $40. The tickets are $10.50, popcorn is about $10 for a large and I'm not sure how much the drinks are. But they must be about $4 each.
But I buy our tickets from Costco and then buy the large tub of popcorn and split it between us. The cost of the popcorn includes a refill, so that's plenty of popcorn. So we pay $7.50 per ticket and $10.50 for the popcorn. So $40 for the 4 of us. We just go thirsty until the movie is done. Otherwise, I'd miss part of the movie to use the bathroom.

It would be about $50 at the regular theater. More at the iPic (reclining seats, meals and alcohol drinks ordered and served to you during the show.). It's a 21 and up theater.

We are a family of six. Tickets are $9. Only combos are offered. Medium drink and medium popcorn is $11.75. Candy is $4. We don't typically go unless the movie we want is available as a matinee.

We paid $42 to see Birdman a couple of weeks ago. No popcorn, candy of drinks (don't think any local theaters offer hot food like pizza, etc.).
2 adults @ $11.50 + 2 students @ $9.50
We are usually going to a movie right after dinner and no one is interested in eating. We will pay for our kids' movie tickets, but not any extras, and they are too outraged by the popcorn/drink prices to buy any for themselves.

Tickets: $11 (for regular theater) Parking: $3 Food: No idea how much food drinks are, but it is usually in the $30+ range for 2 drinks and an entree (hot dog, nachos, corn dog, etc) for the 2 of us.

DH & I go quite a bit. It's $6.79 for the first movie of the day. It's rare we go that early so we usually pay $10.79 each. He gets a bottle of water and I get a soda which is $11.00 for both. Once in a while we'll get pretzel bites which are $4.00. So all together it's $36.58.
I noticed recently the chicken finger platter which comes with fries and a drink was $18!! I know that concessions are where theaters make their money but that just sounded so ridiculous to me.

We usually only go to the Drive in here. It's $8 for adults to see 2 or 3 movies. Popcorn is $2.99 for a small bag, but has free refills. Drinks are $4 with free refills on tea. And the food varies from $9 -$12 a plate (ex. A speciality hamburger with fries). The people that own the Drive In also own a resturant, so the food is very good.

We went to see "Big Hero 6" a few weeks ago (or as I call it "the longest scooby doo episode ever.") 60 bucks for 4 3D tickets and 40 at the snack counter. A hundred freaking bucks for a night out at the movies!?!?

We only go to matinees when we do go for hubby and myself. So they are like $5 a piece and then he always has to get a pop and a nacho and that's like $14.
We also have one that tickets are always $4, and then you can order food, drinks, pop, etc. I went with my cousin for my birthday in August and our bill was $50. But she also had 2 beers in there. overall, I don't think that was too bad for a girls night out. Could have been worse

Wow! Your theater is super cheap and still totally doable as a family outing! Lucky!
A ticket is $10.75 here.
Small popcorn is $6.50 - Add a dollar for each size upgrade.
Small drink is $5.50
The last time I went to the movies (more than 1 year ago), we bought candy from the Dollar Tree and put it in my purse beforehand (the same candy at the theater is $4.25 a box)
Going to the movies has now become a luxury for our family. One that we don't often do. Less than once a year, actually.

We have 2 theatres. One shows older new movies and is $4 but an extra $3 if in 3D. The good theatre with stadium seating is $11 per movie and I'm not sure if there is an extra charge for 3D. I can't remember how much popcorn & a drink is but it costs more than the tickets to get in.

Tickets to the movies by us are $12.00/each. Add in drinks, popcorn, and candy and it's a small fortune!

Family of four here. We usually go to the first showing to avoid crowds. Tickets are $6.50 each, so $26 total. We usually get 2 small sodas and 2 small popcorns. I think that's $10.50 for a soda and popcorn. So that's another $21. Because we are AMC stub members, they upgrade us to a bigger soda for free. Plus, for every $100 we spend, we get $10 to spend at the movies. We rack up those $10 points pretty fast.

Regular movie 10.25 Imax 14.25 Imax 3d 19.25
When DH and I go alone, it costs about another $20-25 for a larger shared popcorn and two sodas. We haven't gone to the movies as a family in ages. If all 4 of us went to a regular movie, it would be an $80 night with just popcorn and soda.

Our theater has refillable popcorn buckets that come out twice a year. We just got ours that is good until April and that was $49 but came with a $20 gift card. With the popcorn bucket we only have to purchase beverage and tickets so we spend about $30. We do see movies fairly often and get our moneys worth out of the popcorn bucket.

So if DH and I go to the movies we try to have dinner at home first and not get any goodies at the theater. Once in a while I will get a large popcorn and soda, but most often not.

DD saw that movie the other night. It was $12.50 a ticket. Matinee is $10 per person. I've only taken the family to the movies once. It's just too expensive. We wait until it's out on video.

$8.75 for matinee ticket. Popcorn and soda are both around $5.00. I signed up for the Century Theaters weekly email and will usually get a coupon for a free popcorn or soda. Well worth it.

Yet again, New Zealand wins at being the most expensive country. Adult ticket $15.60 M&Ms $8.50 I only buy M&Ms so have no idea how much popcorn costs. I sneak in my drink from home.
