My dad. Hardest person on the planet to buy for. Has all the money he needs and can buy anything he wants. His hobbies include walking, golfing, and sunning on the beach in Mexico. He likes to cook and bake (my sister is getting him an air fryer). I've gotten golf accessories, college apparel, engraved whiskey glasses with a bottle of his favorite Scotch. I've given alcohol more times than I can count. I'm just at a loss as to what else to get him.
What are you getting your dads for Christmas?

Is he an avid walker, or does he just like to meander?

We pay for yearly subscriptions for my dad to go to an art museum he loves. He goes all the time with the subscription but I offer and go with him 2-3 a year. We make a day date of it and do lunch.
We have also bought him yearly packages for the little theatre so he can see all the plays they do throughout the year.
Is there something like that you could gift him?

My dad is similar to yours but plays tennis instead of golf. He has everything so I only get him something token such as home made toffee.
Would your dad like some fun brightly colored swim shorts such as Chubbies or Vineyard Vines? New walking shorts or Vuori joggers? My dad always seems to appreciate socks lol.

Since he drinks Scotch, how about some really vintage .scotch in his favorite brand. I know you said you had given .scotch before, but make it really special. For our wedding anniversary, I gave .DH a bottle of really rare Scotch. It was WELL beyond the price of his normal bottle. He would never buy it himself. He was thrilled👍. He still thanks me for the gift.

My dad is even more difficult. He sits in his chair all day watching tv, has given up doing any yard work or tinkering. playing slot games on his desktop computer. He's supposed to be on a diabetic diet also. He probably has enough flannel pajama pants, lap blankets and slippers to last the rest of his life. I struggle every year to find something for him.

Dad is getting a year of Amazon Prime and a power bank that jump starts his car. FIL is getting a year of Portal of Prayer (Lutheran prayers), a page a day prayer calendar, and a book of old west stories.
What about a Man Crate? A subscription for unlimited car washes in town? oil changes?

We have also bought him yearly packages for the little theatre so he can see all the plays they do throughout the year. This is a good idea. I've just sent him a text asking if he is going to Mexico after Christmas. They did not go last year because of Covid. If not, I searched my local venue and there is a Branford Marsalis concert in February. He would enjoy that. Would your dad like some fun brightly colored swim shorts such as Chubbies or Vineyard Vines? This is a good idea. Once I confirm if he's going to Mexico this winter I may sneak him a new pair of swim shorts. Since he drinks Scotch, how about some really vintage .scotch in his favorite brand. I know you said you had given .scotch before, but make it really special. I think this may be a bit out of my price range. I've had this one suggested before and some of the prices were jaw dropping. Some good stoneware baking pans... like cake pans or dutch oven.. This is a good idea. His baking mostly consists of cookies, like mine. So I could buy him good quality cookie sheets, silicone baking mats, cooling racks. A big, huge spatula like I use. Hot pads. Something like that. I struggle every year to find something for him. It's so hard. I'm sorry you are struggling too. Peas have given some good suggestions though so maybe this thread will help you. A subscription for unlimited car washes in town? I've done this one too. He has two cars and he keeps them immaculate. So this was a well received gift the year I gave it. Thank you, guys, for some good suggestions.

Coffee, his favorite cookies, and a photo book of his visit with the kids at the beach last spring. Pretty helpful right?

Cigar of the Month club. He has a professional grade humidor he can store them in. This is a very cool idea for a dad into cigars. He doesn't smoke or drink much anymore but he does enjoy a cigar or two with a beer every now and then. Today he is 71 and I'm just happy for whatever brings him happiness, because the pandemic and 24/7 CNN-MSNBC and Trump news seems to have stolen all his joy since the 2016 election. Ugghh But at least it brought him out of semi-conservatism to rekindle his liberal fire 🔥😁

My dad is also super hard to buy for.
Thankfully this year he and my mom want some a few different Microsoft software packages and we are going in together with my sister for them. I'm not sure which ones, they told my sister, altogether I think it's like $350 she said. I'll also get them each a wall calendar (tradition, they still LOVE their wall calendars) and something else small.
Often I end up getting him a nice hoodie or some books etc. He's particular about his hoodies, has to be zip up, lined, heavy duty for outside yard work preferably, any logos have to be embroidered, not screen printed and probably other things I'm forgetting! It's always fun to find one that meets his expectations.

My parents asked if we could stop exchanging gifts with them (so my brother and I won't get for them and they won't get for us). They will just get for the 5 grandchildren (ages 18-24). I think my parents realize how expensive it is to get for young adults and how hard it is. They will just do gift cards.
But, we get for my inlaws (gift cards), so I don't want to get for them and not for my parents. So I have to "work around" it. I told them I would buy them a cordless tineco stick vaccuum for their birthdays instead. They are older, so vacuum cleaners can be heavy. So that's what I am getting my mom and dad for Christmas. But saying it's a birthday gift.

Some ideas that we have done that we love are a subscription for sirius xm radio. Or a beverage subscription. My husband got me a sheetz subscription for fountain drinks. It's $15 a month and you can get a drink every 2 hrs. We live a mile from sheetz and I go by it many times. So I love that gift! I can get a soda or iced tea a few times a day and I love that!

My Dad and I both collect Disney stuff, so I usually just get him Disney things I find throughout the year, which turns into a lot of books about Disney history.
However, one of his favorite non-Disney things I have given him was a Brother handheld label maker. He loves to organize, and his handwriting is terrible.

My dad is 88. He still works 20-40 hours a week as a lawyer. He has always had atrocious taste in clothing. While packing to move him into a smaller house my aunt and I threw away 2/3 of his clothes. They were in terrible condition. Ripped & stained & worn out, in addition to being too big due to some weight loss. I ordered him $600 in clothes from LL Bean. Pants, dress shirts, flannel shirts, sweaters. Normally I’m not an extravagant gift giver. This was born of desperation.
I would gift him experiences in a normal year. Last year I gave him a membership to Wondrium (formerly known as The Great Courses online). He loves it so much that I renewed it for his birthday, which is 2 days after Christmas. He also loves books. I pay attention to the NPR book reviews. They have great ideas & you can trust their reviews.

If he’s a walker, and of *that* age, does he show any interest in birding? Maybe an outdoor class through the Audubon society or something like that?

I bought my hard-to-buy for husband a set of good wireless over the ear headphones. I wasn't sure if he would like them, but they were a HUGE hit with him. I paired the bluetooth to his phone, and he's thrilled with them. He uses them to watch things on youtube.

Last year it was an aerogarden with the herb seed kit. He grew herbs indoors all winter and used them for cooking. Simple to use, and quick reward in the herbs. They also have lettuce packs and cherry tomato packs.

I've given up on giving new and unique items to my dad. He doesn't want people spending their money on him, and he has everything he could possibly want, so we buy him the same consumables year after year. A few of his favorite snacks, gift cards to local restaurants because my parents really like ordering take-out from lots of different places regularly, and that's about it. If any other ideas ever exist for him, my mom gets first dibs, LOL.

What about a pair of Goodr brand sunglasses? They are made for sports and people who “sweat.” They stay on the face without slipping.
