My new car I got a year ago has that and I am always worried that the car is not turned off. My husband showed me this thing inthe car near the speedomoter and it it's on zero then the car is turned off. I know absolutely nothing about cars, which is so bad! I often try turning on my car again to pay attention as I turn it off. When I first got it I went into the store a few times with the car running!

I have a lanyard with my keys on it so I don't lose my keys. If I just carried the key fob I would lose it in my mess of a car/purse. I hang it on a hook inside our front door. That has save me hours of looking for my keys! If your car does beep when you walk away with the key, wearing it as a necklace should make it easy to remember to turn it off.
My car doesn't beep, maybe there is a setting to put it on to make it beep! I will call the dealer and ask if I can take it in to get it put on the beep setting.

There IS an alarm and the car won’t lock if it is running. Glad she is OK.

When I first got my car I was at work and could not get the car doors to lock. I would lock them and then they would immediately unlock and beep at me. I had to get to a meeting, so I figured I'd deal with the unlockable car at breaktime. Two hours later I ran to the parking lot and instantly realized my car was running. Turns out if you try locking the car while it's running and the keys are outside the car it won't let you...and it beeps.
I've almost always got my radio on and it stops as soon as you open a door if it's off. That's my double-check these days. I'm actually more likely to hit the button a second time forgetting that I already turned it off. Since my foot needs to be on the break to start it I get a weird error message and am forced to actually start the car and then turn it off again. I always feel like a dork when this happens.

I bet there's a setting - you should double check - I think most cars do have that setting. Yes. It could be a setting that you can turn on and off. Just didn’t want people to assume it automatically happens on every car. I’m actually torn about whether I want it on or not. Sometimes it’s useful, like if I’ve already got my kids in the car and then realize I forgot something in the house, I want to be able to leave the AC on while I take my house keys to get into the house. (My kids are not babies or toddlers or preschoolers, so they’re old enough for this to be ok in our driveway for a few minutes). Or when I go somewhere with my husband and I want him to be able to drop me off at the door while he goes to park, but the keys are in my purse. Other times it’s bad because I have a really hard time telling if my car is all the way off or not. I just hate push start buttons. I don’t see any advantage to them at all. I’d rather have a key ignition.

Ours starts beeping at you if you walk away with the keys while the car is running. We don't leave our keys in the car when the car is parked in the garage...they always come into the kitchen with us.
