I am determined to not buy any books until at least June. Ideally, for the whole year, but I don't trust myself, so I am saying June and if I want to, treating myself to a book or two for my birthday (mid June). I have so many books to read already, both on my Kindle and real books. Even if I go the entire year and don't buy one new book, I doubt I would be able to get through all of my unread books. It's that bad. LOL I started out the year reading a book my sister got me for Christmas--Anxious People. I am now reading Cane River, a book I purchased back in the summer at a resale shop. It's so good! Well, if you like novels about slavery/civil war history. Which I do. This one is loosely based on the author's family history. Anyone else trying to not buy any books? If so, what are you reading? After Cane River, which I am almost finished with, I am going to read Cider House Rules. I've had it for a long time, and my book club recently decided to read it.

It has been twenty years at least, but I really loved Cider House Rules. I hope you enjoy it! I did this in the fall -- I tried not to buy any new books, and work through my stash. I was decent about it, although I couldn't resist a few well-reviewed new releases by favorite authors. I bought a stack over winter break, however, so I need to go back on the program .

I have so many books - physical books, Nook books, and Kindle books. I don't know how many I have, but it is out of control. I told my boyfriend I am not buying any new books until I get through everything I already own. He laughed because he knows I am drawn to library book sales, but I am determined.
It will take me years.

I have had an Audible subscription for years but go through phases where I listen to books, then only podcasts for awhile. So I had a long list of books that I hadn't read yet (and also some on the Kindle and physical books). I changed my subscription to not give me any new credits. I have 6 books left that I haven't listened to, and only one credit left. I am focusing on finishing those and any that I can get from the library. I haven't bought any new books or Kindle books for awhile, but always check the library first to see if they have one available that I want.

Well that would be a nice thing but I don't see it happening for me. I am a member of BOTM and I grab a book every month. I also just bought Island of Missing Trees so I have already blown 2022. However, I am doing something in my reading journal called Reading to Zero. I am planning on grabbing the books in my shelf from BOTM and starting to get them read. I am in 2 online book clubs and will get those books from the Library or on Scribd so I will not count those as purchases. I am committing to reading more of the classic, should have already been read books.

I’m only reading free books right now - in my area there is a little free library practically on every corner and many of them have excellent selection of books. My latest score was Beach Read which I’m reading right now. I’m also reading books from the regular library: Project Hail Mary and Reservoir 13.
I do also read a lot from our home library - mostly non fiction - right now I’m reading The Other Slavery about our long history of enslaving indigenous people.

Sort of, but not really. I'm re reading the last few Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon to get ready for the newest one. I have all of them in hardback, a gift I bought myself after reading the series the first time in 2015. I just finished the first two re-reads but instead of reading my hardback editions those were read in paperback the I bought from Amazon. One reason-I got the first book for vacation and didn't want to fly with a hardback. But the second book I just finished I also decided to read in paperback-easier to read in bed. Those are really fat books!
Most of the books I read are 99% from my local public library. I am very blessed to have a fantastic public library within 5 miles of my house and I use it constantly. At the end of the year, the very best books I've read that year I plan to buy in hardback.

I also have a ton of books on my kindle that I won't get through this year. But I keep a list of books I'm interested in and get them when they are on sale. I check my list every day and if there is something on sale for $1.99 or less then I will take another look at the description and reviews and either purchase or delete.

There’s no way I should be buying more books. I probably have 100+ in my library that are unread 😳 I’m definitely in the January doldrums and can’t find a book that is suiting my mood, so I’m rereading Patricia Cornwells Scarpetta series for something familiar but interesting that’s not demanding too much of me.

I usually only buy Kindle daily deal books so it's not much of an expense. You do get some duds that way (sometimes there is a serious lack of editing), but you also get some best sellers.
I'm still slogging my way through the latest Outlander book, which at this rate may very well last into next year!
I also have Libby on my Kindle if I want to use the library. My library seems to have limited items, but I still also have my previous library linked too so I have more options.

I listen to audiobooks but one of my friends is doing book swaps with a group of friends. I thought that was a good way to cut back on purchasing so many books while still getting to read new releases.

To me, the beauty of the kindle, is that I can read new, old or whatever I want and I never feel guilty. I get my kindle books from a couple of different libraries, and from Amazon kindle unlimited when they run a good deal.

I am trying to read my TBR stash. I have 100+++ books in my stash (results of too many library sales, Half Price Book clearance sales and thrift store finds). I'm reading a book by Candace Bushnell (One Fifth Avenue) that has been in my stash sooooo long! She's the author of Sex and the City.
In anticipation of a house move sometime in 2022 (when the right thing comes along) I've packed up 90% of my TBR stash and am committed to reading the books I left on the shelf. Though the weekly reading thread is a very dangerous place for me as there are recommendations in that thread that have me searching libraries and Amazon. I will occasionally read a library book but have tried to not purchase any new to me books lately.
Good luck on your stash reading. I'm finding that I feel like my TBR books and they are in my stash for a reason - they all look so interesting when I packed them up and there were several that I was so excited to read.

Me! I’m currently on book 6 or 7 of a 10 book series about female spies during WWII. Then I’m going to restart the Outlander series, I was stuck on book 4 for forever, it’s really slow. I want to watch the series but I’m determined to read the books first. Then I have about 25 or 30 more books on my shelf I want to read.
Side note, we have a really amazing used book store which is where I get most of my books, they are usually between $1 and $6.

HAHA that is what I told myself! At one point, I thought that book looked good enough to buy. It's too easy with Kindle to see a book on IG, or wherever, then get on my Kindle and just buy it.

Hahaha me too! I should be. But Half Price Book and Amazon Kindle is just too stinkin' tempting. LOL I know! Plus, I am on a FB group called The Book Hangout Spot, and yesterday, someone posted a link to thriftbooks. I had to force myself to not click on it. LOL I also have a ton of books on my kindle that I won't get through this year. But I keep a list of books I'm interested in and get them when they are on sale. I check my list every day and if there is something on sale for $1.99 or less then I will take another look at the description and reviews and either purchase or delete. That is the one exception I made to my no new books rule--if I come across something on my wish list that is super cheap like that, I will buy it. The Cider House Rules is one of my favourite books ever. XDH even named his business at the time after one of the characters! (Fuzzy Stone 😊) I just started it, and I am already hooked! I bought this paperback a couple of years ago, and stuck it on a shelf. A few days ago, one of the gals in my book club texted us all to say she was watching the movie and just found out it is a book and we should all read it. Bonus! I don't have to buy it! LOL I listen to audiobooks but one of my friends is doing book swaps with a group of friends. I thought that was a good way to cut back on purchasing so many books while still getting to read new releases. We do that in my book club--bring books we no longer want to share with whoever wants them.

I have never used my library for Kindle books. The last time I wanted to, I was something like 187 on the wait list, so I ended up just buying it. LOL ETA: I also have no willpower or patience to wait for a book I want to read. I blame Kindle for that. LOL I used to get on wait lists at the library all the time. But now, now that I know I can click one button and be reading the book in a few seconds? NO patience. LOL Hopefully, by June, that will change. What do they say, it takes 30 days to break a habit?? I am almost there--I haven't bought a book since right after Christmas.

A few years ago I decided to count the number of books I read in a year. It was in the low 40s. It ranges from 45-55, not bragging or complaining just made it realistic how many books I can actually get through and how many I need purchased and waiting. So I went through my books the next two years and whittled them down. I read more on my Kobo now and look for books that are marked down but only have a few purchased at a time.

I am a big fan of libraries, so I don't buy a lot of books for myself. (I do buy them for my kids, though. Go figure. Even though they use the library as well. ) So I don't have much of a stash. When I do buy fiction books for myself, I tend to buy used books---from the library, LOL---then donate almost all of them right back to the library once I've read them. (I typically only keep a fiction book if I think I'll ever want to read it again, or if it has sentimental value, such as books that were gifts or that belonged to loved ones.) So I do have a very small stash of unread books right now---maybe a dozen books or less. But I am currently reading "Loving Frank", which is a library book.

I get most of my books from the library as ebooks but I do have a large stack of books I need to read and then purge. I keep saying this year I will get through them but get sidetracked by another book at the library. Ebooks are just so easy and I don’t have to even go to the library and I prefer ebooks as they are lighter. I need to start reading my physical books as my bookcase is a mess and overflowing. If I read about 25 and donate them it will look a lot better. Of course my favorite authors keep writing and I usually go for those vs the older books that aren’t part of a series. I should try to do every other book as one from my physical stash.

I’m jealous of those that can do audiobooks, I spend so much time in the car it would be easier but my brain just can’t process it.
I also don’t use the library because I’m a sporadic reader. I’ll read a book in a week or two and then the next book could sit on the shelf for months. I am trying to make a conscious effort to read more this year though.

I'm not buying anymore books for myself but I'm enjoying the library selection. Today I picked up 3 books -- The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly, Wish you were here by Picoult, and 180 seconds by Jessica Park. I don't know what any of them are about but since they're library books, it doesn't matter

I'm trying to wait to buy new releases for my Nook app until the prices go down.
I am also trying to re-read my oldest books, then letting them go. I don't have the built-in shelving at our new place that I have here. I'll buy some shelving, but still want to reduce my number of books.

I honestly don't know the last time I bought a book. I've got a small stash at home that I've had for 3+ years by now (really less than 10 books). I have my favorite authors saved on my library app so when the library orders a new book I get the email and add it to my list. By doing that I'm usually under 10 in line.
My reading the last few years has been so sporadic. I try and get all my books on my Kindle from the library so that way when the 3 weeks is up, I just be sure that my wifi is off so I don't loose it. There's been some books that literally took me months to read. Not that it was a bad book, just me not being motivated to read.

I rarely buy books any more. I borrow almost all of my Kindle books from the library.
I get a newsletter from the New York Times every month which informs about new books being released that month. I put a hold at my library on all the books I want to read. I never run out of books to read and will usually be able to read a new release w/in a month of it being released. Every once in awhile, I'll recommend a brand new book that the library hasn't ordered yet and then I get to read the book first, which is fun.

I’m jealous of those that can do audiobooks, I spend so much time in the car it would be easier but my brain just can’t process it. I have only listened to one audio book--Maisie Dobbs. I went on a road trip last winter and listened to it on the way there and on the way home. This morning, I went around my house and gathered up all my unread books that I want to read this year. There are 26 books here. LOL I was going to go through my Kindle and add up those, but I decided this was enough for one day.
