I've always really liked my name. I'm named after a soap opera - though spelled differently (Ryan's Hope) and a county in California (Marin). My mom and grandma also had traditionally male names. I like that I carry that tradition. I moved a lot growing up and was the perpetual new kid in class. I always hoped having a weird name would up my "interesting" quotient when trying to make new friends. If I had to pick a different name, I would choose my grandma's name, Billie.

I’ve always liked my name. It’s way better than the other options my Mom had: September and Sabrina. I’ve always loved Cassandra or Cassie for short and Tess. Loved the book.

I have never liked my name. It is always butchered and mispronounced. It is pronounced like Rita with a B, but is spelled Britta so everybody who reads it pronounces it with a short i like the water filter.
I have been called Rita, frida, burrita, and the newest one from last weekend was “Freba” 🙄
My mom wanted to call me Carmen. My dad said it was “too ethnic” so I ended up with my “all American name”, lol.
I would have chosen Carmen or something easier to pronounce. In college when I was a waitress I asked for my name tag to be “Jo” and often use that if asked for my name and it will be called out to make it easier.

When my son was engaged to his fiancé, we all lived in different states. Still do, actually. His fiancée called me and said that her parents would like to meet me sometime before the wedding. I knew her mother was a doctor, but did not know what her name was. So I asked her, she said that her mother’s name was Candy.
Candy ?!!!!! I said. I went on and on and on about how much I loved that name. I wish my name was Candy ! On and on. She finally gave the phone to my son. He said - what was that all about ? Oh nothing I said. 😬😬 So, I guess I like the name Candy. 🤪

I loved "Little Women" and would choose Amy. I only knew of one Amy growing up.
I was named for my mother, and she was named after her mother's best friend. My mother and I split the name--she was Evie and I am Lyn. The old-fashioned name made it to number 9 on the top 10 baby names last year. Ironically, I went to a doctor's appointment in a crowded waiting room and the nurse called our name and three of us stood up--a baby in her mother's arms, a 75 year old, and 55+ me.

I cried as a little girl because my mom wouldn’t change my name to Susan. It sounded so pretty!
Hi, my name is Reba, not Rebecca. 😊 There was no one in school K-12 named Reba.

As a kid I remember wanting to change my name to Courtney. I think I named a lot of my Barbie’s that or Barbie’s little sister.

My husband’s family doesn’t have any girls, they are all married in, so the chances I’d have a girl were slim. My DH is one of three boys, who have six sons between them. DH's dad was an only child, so three generations straight of no girls. When our older DS was engaged, he told then fiancée not to bother thinking of girls' names - they wouldn't be needing them. Surprise! They are now the parents of two girls!

This thread reminded me of my high school French class, where we all had to choose a French name. I really wanted to be Chantal, but my BFF's name came before mine alphabetically, so she chose it before I could. I became Brigitte instead and was not thrilled about it (not because I didn't like Brigitte, but because I thought Chantal was so unique). I can't really imagine myself with another name now. I really do love my given name and it suits me. If I had to choose a pen name, I might go with Piper or Carrington, though I have no idea why. Oh goodness, I'd forgotten about that! Yes we had the same except that we had to have a French version of our own name. But I couldn't pronounce mine, so after a couple of efforts the teacher gave up and "renamed" me Adrienne. Couldn't say that either...

I don't have a specific name I would choose, as I don't mind my name, I just want something more fun to write. Something that starts with an S or an L, then a Q for a middle initial. Laverne Q. Snicklefritz or something like that. My first and last name are super boring to write as they have lots of up and down letters. No curly or fancy letters. I know what you mean! My lifelong friend’s name is Ellen and I’m awful at writing the letter E. I’m always wishing she had a name that started with a letter I like to write, because I’ve written it so many times over the years. My childhood wish name, Lisa, would have started with a flourish letter L…

Oh that's an easy question for me! I have hated my name since my earliest memories. It's short, not pretty...and a boy's name. I was well into my 50s before I was every in a group or class setting with another woman/girl named Toni. No one ever spells it correctly and people are always expecting a male. For the first time I got to be Toni S and was so excited! The name I always wanted - and remember begging my dad to let me change it when I was 4 - is Daisy! So pretty, so girly.

I'm Tracy and I love it. I know another person with my name and I do not like them and it offends me that she has my name.
If I was going to choose another name it would be a flower: Rose, Lily, Daisy, or something like that.

I disliked that merchandise spelt my name with a y rather than an I. But I never hated it. Although a couple rather popular songs featuring it, got on my nerves being screamed at me. It was often shortened as a nickname that I really liked even though a famous singer at that time has named that. I did change my last name legally as an adult and have no regrets about that. I loved the name Jo from facts of life.
If I could be anything, I would like Brooklynne Cassidy

My given name is the short form of my grandmother's, but I wish I'd been given her full name.
My mom insisted that I have a name that cannot be shortened as she constantly fought that with her own name.

I don't know what I would change my name to, but I just didn't like how popular my name was when I was growing up. When I was born in 1969, Jennifer was the #2 most popular name for girls- and it went to #1 in 1970, and stayed there till into the 1980s. Sigh. There were always plenty of other Jennifers around. My mom had wanted to name me Jamie, but my dad did NOT like it. She agreed on Jennifer as long as I would never be called Jenny, which *she* hated. Looking at it now, I think my personality would probably have been a bit different if I *had* been a Jamie?? More tomboyish, maybe? not sure. (I liked the Bionic Woman tv show, and thought Jaime Sommers was so cool-- just think, that could have been me, lol.)
My older relatives had 'old lady' type names that were very dated-- AND none started with a J-- so there wasn't much chance of getting any of those names- Mildred, Lucille, Esther, Effa (pronounced Effie), Rose, etc.. I guess I just wanted more thought put into it besides 'we need another girl's name that starts with J for the baby.'
My brother's wife Marguerite was born Mary-- she hated it for being so plain and she changed it as an adult. I used to think that was odd, but I don't any more.

i dislike my name, always have. for a while i tried to go by my middle name as a kid. it didn't stick and in hindsight i am glad (joelle). there is no real short form or nickname for my name. there are NO babies being named my first name these days... very 70s name.
so if i had to pick now, i always liked esme (and sometimes use it at starbucks). or maybe something like katherine that is classic and timeless. i could be kate, kathy, kat or katherine - OPTIONS!

I never considered changing my name until the last couple of years. My given name is Jacqueline, born in 1964, I was named after Mrs. Kennedy. I didn't even know my name wasn't Jackie until 1st grade. I like my name okay, but I think Jacqueline is beautiful. And I did have a moment of anguish when I learned that she actually pronounced her name Jacquleen.

When my mom was pregnant with me, my parents had a big debate. My dad wanted to name me Rebecca and my mom was of the opinion they should just name me Becki. And I guess they could not come to any agreement about it and therefore decided to name me Roxanne. Well I came out and they took one look at me and decided I was a Becki. I don't like that I was given a nickname and with a misspelling too. But I think my name suits me and I can't imagine changing it. However, I do think it would be very cool had my name been Roxanne. I am if the opinion that you can’t really name a baby until they are born. We had a list for my DD and named her what she ‘looked’ like when she came. DS we had really only consensus from both of us on one name. If he had ‘looked’ not like that nane I guess we would have had an issue. Thankfully he did. It’s not a totally uncommon name, ( kinda popular that particular year ) we spelled it the most common spelling and yet people constantly still mis-spell it. As for myself, I didn’t much like my name growing up but at this point I doubt I’d change it. I guess I’ve grown into it. My Dad named me so at this point I doubt I could mentally handle changing it.
