do you wear ones that you have an affiliation with? Or even a clue what it is?
Twice today I commented on someone's cap and they both were like "I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm just wearing a cap."
One was a Penn State cap - a blue cap with the Penn State logo. As a Penn State family, we always give someone a hearty "WE ARE!" to which people who are affiliated with PSU reply "PENN STATE!" The woman today said "huh?" and I said "oh, you have a Penn State cap on so I was just greeting you in the Penn State style" and she looked at me like I had two heads.
Then, I passed someone in a Cubs hat and said "Go Cubs!" (I'm in Connecticut - you never see Cubbies hats here only Yankees, Mets and Red Sox.) Again, the woman had no idea why I was commenting and didn't even know what her hat meant.
Maybe I just need to crawl back in my hole and stop being friendly haha. (and I had a mask on - so it wasn't covid freak out on their parts either.)
I was wearing a Northwestern cap (it's my regular post-workout cap) and am always super friendly when someone comments. And I don't wear caps that I would be like "huh?" - my daughter left a "Harry is my friend" cap and I almost put it on and then thought "I'd be so embarrassed if someone asked me about it and I had to say it was about Harry Styles." Not that there's anything wrong with Harry Styles - he's adorable - but a 57 year old woman wearing Harry Styles merch is a bit much!

Yes - but sometimes I forget which one I’m wearing. I have an Oregon visor that is the current one I wear most often and I get a lot of “go ducks!” When I was on the east coast I wore my Cal hat a lot and also got a lot of “go Bears!” which is fun.

I always know and agree with what's on my hat! My most favorite one which I got last year to wear to the lake, says Lake Life (in a larger, script font), then in parenthesis below it says (cause beaches be salty). The only other hats I have have the logo for the college team we are huge fans of.

Awe! Peabay you keep doing what you do, I love that!
DD was in marching band for MS and I wore a band booster baseball cap with the school's colors and logo. Apparently there is some small college in the Midwest that has the exact same color/letter combo and a man very excitedly asked me "Name of School! Yeah!" and high fived me.
I was sad to break it to him it actually stood for the Middle School and we laughed about it, but I told him I was bummed it wasn't his school.

I do wear baseball hats, and I don’t believe I have any that aren’t personally meaningful in some way. I’m trying to think of the logos I have…NY Yankees, my daughters’ schools, my alma mater, my tennis club. I will say that I do have one from Tufts that I bought in Boston just because I love their Jumbo the elephant mascot.
I’ll get an occasional appreciative nod when I wear my Yankees hat (we’re in Braves country), and the college hats often spark a “my kid goes to blah blah, too!” conversation.

I wear them in the rain when I’m sight seeing or at the beach. And yes, if it’s a branded cap, I’m aware of the brand. That strikes me as very off that you would wear a branded article of clothing and not know the brand.

I rarely where them because they look terrible on me. One of the few times I wore one, it actually was a Dallas Stars hockey branded cap. (We were living in the D/FW area at the time). We went back “home” to a city with a minor league baseball team and went to a very hot and Sunny afternoon game. I wore my Dallas Stars baseball cap because that was all that I had brought with me on that trip. As we were climbing up the stairs to our seats, some guy yelled at me “ hey lady this isn’t an F’ing hockey game!” I was so taken aback that I just kind of looked at him and laughed. He glared at me and said, I’m not joking, take the damn hat off! And then called me another name for being stupid. People are weird. Ha.

I do and I must really be all about said words/thing on cap or I won’t be wearing it. I only wear my college hat if I’m the in the mood for many hearty greetings. 😂 I think it’s bizarre that people would wear a hat they were t really into/familiar with!

I have a number of Life is Good baseball caps, all with cute sayings/logo decorations. Of course I know what’s on my cap!! However, I once found an adorable cap with the Life is Good dog holding a stick with a marshmallow on the end. I thought he was making a s’more! I love that hat and wore it for years. It took way longer than it should have to figure out why people were constantly asking me if I played golf…..the “stick with the marshmallow” is actually a golf club. Ha ha ha.
Gosh did I feel stupid that day. No I don’t golf, but I still wear my hat! Now I just have a funny story to go with it.

The one I wear the most is just a plain black hat, but I rarely wear a hat "just because", there's usually I'm a reason I need one while outside. Usually it's a sporting event for our sons' high school (so I wear a school hat) or it's Saturday and a Husker football game day (so I wear my Husker hat)...otherwise I wear my plain black hat.
DS17 has a ton of hats and wears whatever he grabs first, but he at least knows what they all are.

Keep trying - if only because the stories from the attempts are awesome! I have a hoodie from St.FX in Nova Scotia that just says Xavier. That happens to be a college here in Southern Ohio as well - same school colors and everything. I didn’t know that when I first moved here. I was wearing it out when day when some drunk guy kept yelling “Musketeers Suck!” at me (the Ohio school mascot). When I realized he was yelling at me he started yelling “UC rules!” (rival school). I was staring at him trying to compute what he was saying. I still remember how awkward that whole exchange was and how stupid I must have looked.

I wear a baseball style hat at my kids' baseball games if it is really sunny and I can't find shade. But I think I look terrible in them and really hate to wear them. I have a gray Adidas hat and a white Nike hat. I would consider wearing one that represents their team but none of the ones we have look decent on me. I am not one to wear team logos unless I am actually at a sporting event for that team. I think it is strange that someone would wear a hat and not know the affiliation.

I wear a Padres hat and I mean it! Have been a fan my entire life.
I also attended the University of Nebraska and I wear GBR shirts sometimes. Last summer when things were relatively “normal” after all of the lockdowns I went to Target in a Nebraska shirt. A man came up to me and said “Go Big Red!!!” It had been so long since I had been approached by a person in public, let alone a stranger, I screamed. I was SO embarrassed. He pointed at his shirt and said “sorry! I’m an alumni too!” I wanted to crawl into a hole and have the world swallow me up. I chalked it up to a year and a half of being at home & still being in the throes of newborn life. Maybe these people have just developed social awkwardness as well.

I don’t own any caps but sometimes if I need it on a sunny day I might grab one of my daughters. They could also be gifts.

I have a pink Dallas Cowboys ladies, baseball cap. Small cap, small bill. And, same size, but purple TCU. A few without names on them.
When I worked retail, if it was a Saturday and TCU was playing. If a customer had anything on that said TCU, I would always ask them if they knew what the score was ! It was about 50/50 if they were aware of the game. I’d get the same, it was just a shirt or a cap.

I only wear hats that have meaning for me. We do have a few family sports rivalries and cousins from Calgary have given my kids, raised to be Canucks fan, Flames hats. We've just told them to never wear them when in Vancouver. DH did stop wearing his beloved red Langara Fishing Lodge hat after it was mistaken for a different kind of red hat.

If I wear caps with something on them, I always have an affiliation with them. Many of my fishing/kayaking hats don't have logos. But I also have a supply of Ohio State, Nationals, and WDW baseball caps.

My husband and I follow opposing baseball teams and we hear comments constantly while wearing our baseball hats. We tell people we agree to disagree.
DH and I went to different, small colleges and I bought shirts from fanatics to go to a my college basketball game and afterwards wear at the gym. We were on a trip and wore the shirts to a planet fitness gym in the vacation town, and three different people commented on the shirts (transplants from our state.)

Keep doing it, peabay! I wear an LSU cap and love when someone says Geaux Tigers! Doesn't happen often in CA but when it does, I'm happy! I can't wait to wear it to Europe next month and see if I come across any LSU fans.

I wear logo-less baseball caps so I don't get comments/questions... I don't think I could wear one with no idea what it meant it would drive me crazy.
DH is a Packer fan in Seahawk country and gets comments on his team all the time, especially if they are playing that day.

I wear specific hats! I have noticed that boutiques and other stores are selling various items with logos on them and some influencers wear them because they are cute and not because they like the team. I've seen a couple of them comment after they've been jokingly teased for wearing a Yankees hat and not even liking baseball, for example.

I wear baseball caps frequently, but I always know the logo on them. I don’t usually get any comments on my hat, except last week at the grocery store. I had a man who was a big fan of the team on my hat, which is not a local team. He yelled to me in the parking lot and we chatted for a few minutes. He was very passionate about this team. I have a good friend who is a fan of Nats baseball, and she will stop and talk to anybody that she sees wearing anything with a Nats logo. We are on the opposite side of the country, so she doesn’t meet Nats people very often.
