First, I should admit that I hate clothes shopping. And I really hate trying things on in a store. When I find something that is a basic piece of clothing that I like and that fits well, I tend to buy it in multiple colors. It has to be a generic looking basic piece, nothing with a noticeable trim or lace or anything. I was in Target recently and decided to check out the clothes. I found a couple of things that I liked and bought them without trying anything on. I came home and did just that and decided to keep three of the four items I had chosen. One of these items was a long-sleeved ribbed T-shirt. It fit well and when I washed it, it came out looking great. Now granted, I've only washed and worn it once, but it looked as if it would hold up for quite a while without pilling or stretching out of shape. And it was a decent length. So many T-shirts are either too short or too long. When I returned to Target to exchange the one blouse that I didn't like (it was too tight across the boobs and I know it would be popping open plus the fabric was a little too thin) I decided to go get one of the other blouses that I had looked at and wanted, but didn't get. They were not in the same location and I couldn't find them so I assume they sold out. I was bummed that I didn't pick it up when I first saw it. Then I went to pick up a couple more T-shirts and couldn't find where those had been moved to either. I figured I would just order the T-shirts online. When I looked online, I discovered that the T-shirts come in 3 different necklines, typical plain rounded higher neckline, V neckline, and scoop neckline. And they are only $12 each. I ordered three more in various colors and varied necklines. And I also was happy to find the one blouse that I had been upset that I missed out on. I had ordered a red T-shirt because I always feel so energetic in red. When it came, the tag said red but it was obviously mistagged because it was definitely a rust shirt. I didn't hate the color and decided to keep it and just order another one in red. That will give me a total of 5 of the same T-shirt in different colors and necklines. Because they can be worn in multiple ways, under a jacket, with pants or a skirt, and with the necklines varied, I don't mind having so many of the same shirt. Does anyone else do this with a generic piece of clothing? My sister had always teased me about buying the same shirt in multiple colors. If they had a detailed pattern or design to them, I wouldn't do it, but for a plain item, I think it is fine. I mean, really, if I went to another store and bought another T-shirt in a different color, would anyone really notice that they were from different stores? I highly doubt it. A T-shirt is a T-shirt. The only reason my sister noticed is because I opened my suitcase when staying at her house for the weekend and they were newish and all folded and stacked on top of each other. Those were generic short-sleeved T-shirts. I just don't think it is a big deal to have multiple colors of a simple clothing item. Does anyone else do this with plain clothing items? I figure if I find something that works, why not? Maybe it is my dislike of shopping that has me just getting it over with in one store. My sister did not wear plain T-shirts, so she just didn't get it. She is also a huge shopper and will spend hours going in and out of stores in the mall and buying various pieces, buying only things that are unlike anything else she already owned. She would never ever buy two colors of the same thing. What about you? Am I that weird or lazy? This is the plain jane generic T-shirt in the V neckline. www.target.com/p/women-s-long-sleeve-v-neck-ribbed-t-shirt-a-new-day/-/A-85665368

I have favorite jeans and I think I have 3 or 4 pairs of them.
I also have several of the same long sleeve black t-shirt that is a winter time staple under so much of what I wear.
I also have 2 of the same winter coat in 2 different colors.

If it is generic, the price is good, and it is something I wear a lot (like short-sleeved T's), I'll buy a couple in different colors. Heck, I'll even buy a couple in black. I'll only do this for generic T's. I also do this for work slacks. I won't buy other shirts in multiple colors though.

Yes. I don't like shopping and I don't like thinking about my clothes, so if I find something I like I will buy it in every color that flatters me.

Yes but I almost always regret it. Except things like leggings, joggers, some t shirts.

Yes I do. I have 6 of the same tshirts, 3 in black and 3 in white. I have 2 of the same onsies, 3 pairs of jeans just in different colors. 3 pair of converse in different colors. If it fits and I love it, I’ll get more either in a different color or as a back up.

I do! I also hate shopping in store, so I'll buy a lot of basic tops and sometimes pants at Costco. It's only five minutes from my house so it's no problem to drive back to return things. Or to buy a couple more in different colors. lol. I've learned my lesson on this years ago... I found THE perfect black jeans at Costco. Perfect. They fit well, they lasted forever, etc. Finally they started to look ratty and now I've retired them to yardwork jeans. I never saw them back in the store, and they're not at Costco online. So I went to Amazon. I searched and found the EXACT jeans. I bought the EXACT same size as the ones I love. When they arrived and I tried them on they were too small. Sent them back and ordered the next size up. They arrived, tried them on, they were too big. There is nothing in between. So I gave up, joined Weight Watchers, and now have lost enough weight to get back into two other pairs of pants that were in my closet. I still mourn those jeans though. And if they ever come back to Costco I'll be buying more than one!

For bottoms, yes. Especially for dress pants. Tops, not so much. I'll also buy shoes in multiple colors.

Sure I do, especially pieces like T-shirts. I'm short (5 foot, 3 inches) with big boobs and sometimes finding clothes to fit my body is difficult. So when I find something that fits well and is something I like (I'm picky) I buy that item in multiples. Why not?

Yes, I’ve done this for years. And it was not unusual for me to buy multiple identical black or white tanks or tees, as I wore them so often under a sweater or jacket when teaching.
I’ve bought the same shoes in different colors, as well as pants. And I have a bunch of fleece jackets that are the same except for color, and several boyfriend cardigans in different colors. I consider all of these basics and it works for me.

I do but I try not to. I have a few t shirts in a style I like in different colors; also two skorts I got on Amazon. (took me FOREVER to decide which designs to get as they had about a hundred different ones from the same place on Amazon).
I think the reason I'm reluctant is I was probably under ten and I had an aunt that bought a bunch of sneakers in bright different colors. I guess that really impacted me at that young age about what not to do lol.

I've learned over the years that if I find a staple that fits well and looks good on me, to buy it in multiples. T-shirts are a good example, as are the Talbots pants that I like. Same for shoes. There are 6 pairs of a brand of ballet flats that I love, although they are all different colors.

Not usually, although I have done it once or twice but only in 2 very different colors.. I try to buy things that bring something different to my wardrobe. I do like the shopping process though.

Yes! I have multiples of these cashmere ponchos from J Crew. I like to wear them with jeans, a long sleeve tshirt underneath, an Hermes scarf tucked into the neckline, and coordinating mules or booties. Jeans, when I find a style I like I’ll buy multiples. I dress fairly simply and then accessorize with more expensive pieces, so my basics are pretty basic and my bags, shoes, scarves, jewelry are more investment pieces. I’m also busty enough that fitting can be a chore, so if it fits and I like it, I’ll buy whatever colours work for me.

Yes, definitely! I also don't like shopping and trying on clothes, so when I do I try to really make it count. I recently decided to move away from skinny jeans, and tried boyfriend jeans. Found one I loved, bought 3 pairs. Torrid has a style of babydoll tops that are made from a "super soft" cotton fabric. They put out different colors, patterns and sleeve lengths year round of the same cut/style. Those have been a go-to staple of mine for years. Same with shoes. I have a rainbow of Converse.

I do. I have scoop neck and v-neck long sleeve tees for fall and winter in multiple colors. Bought them on sale last year at JCP for about $5. They have held up very well. I do the same with my jeans since I know they fit.

I do. Different colors sometimes and just duplicates sometimes. Same with shoes. I have very little interest in variety, I like what I like and is comfortable. Luckily for me with my job the last 20 years I could/can wear jeans (just not blue) and short sleeve or long sleeved tee-shirts, and a vest (fleece or down). I work in an area that needs to stay cool and I was always cold. I can work from home most of the time now and I wear leggings and a tee-shirt and a vest. 😄

No, I'm definitely not a fashion maven but I think too many of the same thing would be boring. The only thing I have the same multiples of are underwear and converse.

If I find a basic closet staple that fits well and is of good quality relative to the price point, I'll sometimes buy multiples in black. I might buy other colors if I really, really like the item and the other colors the item comes in.

My people!!! I am so glad that I am not the only one that does this. My sister tried to convince me that I was weird to even consider getting more than one of any clothing item. That didn't make me stop doing it, but I just began to think about her comments as I ordered one more T-shirt top from Target.

Sure do. The jeans I have I own 3 pair of, each a different wash. I have a favorite shirt that I'd buy new colors in every time they are released. I realized this year I have 13 of this shirt and I made myself stop buying it. Recently I found a decent plain t shirt at Target that I like so I bought six of it in different colors. It's just so hard to find something I really like and I figure I'll probably never see it again so I might as well buy several.

Yes! Particularly clothes, but not so much shoes, except for Converse Chucks, which I own in both hi and lo in multiple colors. Since a warm color palette has been on-trend in recent years, I am buying more basic tees and other tops in those shades that are flattering to me. I have a serious problem with the J. Crew cashmere wrap, which I also own in multiple colors. (and just ordered a new one )

Lululemon Align leggings ... multiple pairs in black because I wear them almost every day in the winter ... I also have a sweater from American Eagle in two colours that I liked enough to buy two ... I wouldn't have a problem with buying things in multiples if I loved them but I am so picky
