We were very happy to have it back. We liked the changes. They were interesting and definitely shook things up a bit. I don't know any of the teams yet---and I don't watch other reality shows, so I don't know anyone from another show. After the very short time spent with them, I did like the team who unfortunately came in last. I also liked the team that came in first. A lot of the teams are still a blur to me right now. I am interested by the twins---what an incredible way to throw yourselves together after knowing one another for such a short amount of time! I was initially thinking that the coach was going to annoy me, but then later on he surprised me in a good way. So it's still a time will tell situation across the board with the teams. But yeah, I liked where we started the episode and I felt the challenges seemed more fast paced with the way they handled them. I definitely think the sawing challenge was the most difficult---either you had an idea of how you should handle that saw or you didn't, and those who didn't seemed to either work together to figure it out or else they really went the full opposite and were very frustrated with it. I was starting to wonder if someone might wind up getting hurt with some of the antics going on! As for the time, we prefer to always watch it later anyway, because of after-school activities that take up different nights each week. So we just stream it when it's convenient for us.

Tonight’s episode was pretty good. I like the fun challenges and there hasn’t been too much drama so far. I’m not surprised by the team that went home but there are a couple other teams I was hoping would go sooner.

Tonight’s episode was pretty good. I like the fun challenges and there hasn’t been too much drama so far. I’m not surprised by the team that went home but there are a couple other teams I was hoping would go sooner. I thought this episode went a little long (that was a whole lot of yodeling and bells) but I enjoyed getting to know more about the racers. I was hoping the eliminated team were going to make it but they really struggled with this one. I listened to an exit interview yesterday and they said editing was very kind to them during the bells challenge and that it was more like 30 attempts, not the 10 that was shown on the screen. It made sense - the judges and the woman who demonstrated the task looked distraught at the end of each attempt. LOL I thought it was funny when Claire said she wasn't diagnosed as tone deaf and Derek said "I'll diagnose you. You're tone deaf" Ha! Dom is a lot. Very intense for someone talking about light and love. I'm really enjoying everyone else though. I love Molly and Emily's story and I hope they stick around a while longer. I'm enjoying the Glenda & Lumumba's energy. Linton & Sharik have a beautiful relationship. Until next week

I enjoyed this episode. Like already mentioned, I appreciate that there hasn't been too much drama, and while I did think I could have lived with less footage of the yodeling; I will admit that I did think it was cute how the professional yodelers seemed as excited as the contestants every time someone finally earned the clue---whether they got it right away or whether they were there for ages, like poor Claire & Rex.

Spoilers are sort of like watching a little kid blow out the candles on a birthday cake. You know there is spit on the cake - you have to decide if you going to have a piece or not.

I thought it was funny when Claire said she wasn't diagnosed as tone deaf and Derek said "I'll diagnose you. You're tone deaf" Ha! My favorite line of the night. I wish we had a better sense of how much time elapsed between Claire starting and finishing the yodeling. Quinton & Mattie realized very early in the leg that they'd made a mistake looking for the next location in Munich. They were really calm and focussed getting back on track I doubt they were more than 30 minutes behind the others because of that error. That Claire & Derek were able to pull back into 4th place with the detour tells me that, as grueling as the yodeling was for her, it didn't really take that long. I adore Linton and Sharik (father/daughter). I thought it was incredibly sweet that Emily and Molly said the best thing about avoiding elimination was getting one more night together. I'm not sad to see Tim and T-Rex get eliminated.

I wish Dom had been eliminated due to not having her hat at the bell challenge. I knew when they highlighted the part about keeping up with your costume that someone was going to have an issue.
I didn't feel too bad about the coach going home, as he is the one who sidelined Tim Tebow so much. I did feel bad for the coach's partner though.
I liked having longer episodes of Survivor and Amazing Race, but they'll be down to 1 hour next week due to the Love Boat. I guess CBS thinks sandwiching it between Survivor and TAR will bring in viewers, but I don't know how that will work in a world where so many people DVR/stream shows.

I finally watched this latest episode. I was annoyed that the gal with all the colorful hair extensions (I never know anyone's name this early in a season, lol) managed to get her hat and get back to the mat in time not to be eliminated. The look on her face when Phil said they had to go get it was just annoying, almost as if she was thinking "what? why should we have to do that?" when it was clearly written in the clue. Way back in the episode I knew that someone was going to have a problem with this because there were so many teams that mentioned it. You know that the producers wouldn't have kept those clips in there unless they were prepping us for someone to forget the hat. lol I also love how so many of the teams chose wisely (cue Indiana Jones on that comment, lol) on the dance challenge. The ones who were good at dancing excelled at it, and no one struggled too much. We know how dancing challenges have derailed teams in the past. I love the father/daughter team, and the team with the tall woman and shorter guy. Darn, I REALLY need to study names before next week, haha. And I love the sisters' story and I'm glad they weren't eliminated. I'm liking all the teams so far in terms of how they relate to each other. Of course it's only the second episode so they really haven't had time yet to get nasty, but so far everyone is being pretty nice to their partners. I'm not sure how I feel about the no-non-elimination thing. I know I have been annoyed in the past when a team that does something dumb still gets to stay because it was a non-elimination leg. But on the other hand, there are random things that can happen like traffic that could take away a team's chances in a split second. At least in the past those teams could still hold on to the hope that it was a non-elimination leg.

I was glad to see Rex & partner go!

I agree with you about Dom and her hat. The clue said something about them having to wear their costume throughout the rest of the challenges. It didn't say that you only had to bring the costume to the pit stop. Dom didn't wear her hat during the bell challenge at all-that should have incurred them at least a penalty. When Phil told her she didn't have her hat when they were checking in, first Dom said something like, "it could be anywhere, it might have fallen off while I was running", as if she expected Phil to say, "Oh, well never mind then. I'll just check you in right now." When they walked away is when she remembered (or told the truth to her partner) that it was in the car. Yes, I do think they should have been made to go back and get the hat, but I also think Dom should have been penalized for not following the rules and wearing all of her costume during the challenges. I think it was because of all of that artificial rainbow hair she's wearing that made it difficult to fit the hat on her head-but that was her decision to wear her "hair" that way.

I don’t think it was right that the rainbow hair team didn’t get disqualified for not following the costume rule. I also can’t stand that team so maybe my judgment is clouded. I didn't feel too bad about the coach going home, as he is the one who sidelined Tim Tebow so much. I did feel bad for the coach's partner though. All I can think about when I see him is the coaches foot fetish and him sucking on someone’s toes So I’m not sorry he and his gigantic teeth were eliminated.

My only concern with the no non-elimination round change is that I wonder if it means that the network is not wanting to give the show as much air time as it used to have. I hope that's not the reason and that the change is in response to all of the complaints last season when the same team kept getting saved over & over again. But, I'm still worried that it's the first reason instead.

I just wait til the end and binge it all.. but I really like to keep up on the dvr weekly... especially for the love boat coming in between... it makes me double glad I just stream... And I like Matt Michum.. he is the cruise director on the love boat.. I have sailed on a cruise with him on carnival before... he has soooo much energy... but not enough for me to record it... lmao

When are teams going to remember they have to read the clues completely and not gloss over stuff. That is rule #1.
I’m also shocked that people had trouble using a ratchet wrench and didn’t know you had to be in neutral or pull in the clutch to spin the motorcycle wheel. 😱

I think they realized that the new format with teams leaving in 2-3 waves over 30 minutes meant a noneliminated team had little to overcome with their second chance. A team that comes back from a many hours start gap and performs a Speed Bump earns their way back. Poor Claire hasn't had much luck with the Roadblocks. I'm surprised more teams picked the anatomy over cheese for the Detour.

I was also surprised that so many people picked the anatomy one instead of the cheese one. Yes, the cheese was physical but it didn't seem too bad. I mean, we've surely seen worse, even with cheese... remember the one where they had to haul a huge cheese wheel up a hill? And I think it was in the snow...? Or maybe they were getting the cheese down the hill...? Again we see so many problems with driving a standard car. After ALL these seasons of The Amazing Race why oh why oh WHY don't people learn to drive one before they come on the show? ? I love the sisters, and the father/daughter, and the tall woman/shorter man teams. And omg, Must. Learn. Names. before next week.

Or how to read a paper map. I'm still surprised after so many years they don't come fully prepared with these basic skills. I was really surprised at how well the twins did on the build a motorbike challenge, she absolutely nailed it. The only one who annoys me so far is the team with the girl with the brightly coloured hair and I won't be disappointed when they go home.

Yes, the twins did great on the anatomy one, and the motorcycle one. I just love their story.

I agree with everything you all have been saying. Rainbow hair lady needs to go. Love the twins, I hope they stay in it and win it. What an incredible story they have.
I like Claire and Derek but if they don't start being better about who is going to do roadblocks they won't last long.
Derek's comment about diagnosing her with tone deafness cracked me up. I really like them as a couple as well. I saw some interview with her parents put them in amazing race boot camp. They would make them do different challenges including one time they blindfolded them dropped them off somewhere they weren't familiar with and told them to get home. Watch how effective it was but made me laugh and thought it was pretty cute.
I will say for the most part I am pleased with how the teams treat each other. But it is early, We shall see how that goes!

I was so surprised with how many of the teams had trouble with their cars this episode. C'mon folks, you ought to know by now that if you are applying for the Amazing Race it's time to learn how to drive stick shift and not wait until 2 weeks before you leave for the race! Ditto learn how to read a map! Has the younger generation just gotten lazy with GPS? I learned how to drive in 1976 and my father insisted on teaching all four of his kids how to drive stick shift even though the first car we had to drive back then was an automatic. Later we got a stick shift Fiat-loved that car!
I have always been grateful for that, especially when I was 24 and spent 6 months living in Japan. Back then I drove a car my fiance had and it had the steering wheel on the opposite side of the car from where it was in the USA, and I had to shift the gears with my left hand, instead of the right, and driving was on the opposite side of the street. Knowing how to drive stick shift made it so much easier as I drove around Japan.
Anyway, I never watched Derek and Claire on Big Brother so I don't know them, but I'm not liking how Derek had Claire do the motorcycle challenge and then was stressing and whining that she didn't do it faster. I think if you don't do the challenge you should encourage your teammate or you should have done it yourself. As much as I don't care for Dom (Rainbow hair) even she said something to him about encouraging Claire and to stop stressing out when Claire finished the task.
I'm loving the twins and when she (can't remember her name either) finished the motorcycle challenge so fast I was jumping off the couch cheering for them. I hope they do really well.
I also like the father/daughter Jamaican team, and the tall wife/short husband team.

I grabbed this screen shot to help with the names. I have to keep looking them up too Amazing Race 34 by Christine C68, on Flickr I loved how Emily blew through the Ducati road block! "I'm a single mother. I put together all the toys, Ikea furniture and Lego sets" Ha! The driving problems always baffled me. It's a given they will, at some point, need to drive a standard car.

I loved the twins acing that challenge!
I really hope Dom goes home next week - I have no idea why she was breaking down in the previews.
I was convinced someone was going to forget the receipts with the cheese challenge, because they kept mentioning it.
I'm not surprised so many people struggled with the anatomy challenge. Not a lot people study anatomy, and add in the stress of the race and the timed nature of the quiz, I could see why it took a lot of times several attempts.
I wanted to shout "read the clue!" to the married couple tonight.

Ooh, thanks for that pic of the teams christinec68 ! I was just about to say something about one of the twins and call her Emma/Molly, and now I see that I didn't even have the one name right, never mind knowing which twin I was talking about. I always enjoy when someone has knowledge that helps them with a task. I'm just interested in learning who knows what about different subjects. But Emily was definitely the surprise for me with that Ducati challenge! Wow! It seemed to me, that although they were no the first team to leave there, they were definitely the team who spent the least amount of time there. Dom does aggravate me to an extent---I feel she talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk sometimes. Or perhaps, it's more of a "Physician, heal thyself" type of situation? She is willing & seemingly able to help others feel more calm or motivated, yet when something is going wrong for herself or her team, she seems to crumble quickly. But as mentioned above, I did really like when she tried to help Derek chill a bit, because he was starting to get to me, so I imagine he was getting to Claire as well. I agree with the idea that if you are not the one doing the road block, then either be supportive or silent. Nothing else is acceptable in my mind. You're not allowed to actually assist, so just be kind or be quiet. I think the cheese side of the detour may have had less takers because it combines 2 elements that have been tricky in past challenges----a cheese wheel and trying to find specific vendors/stores in a possibly busy location. This time it didn't turn out like that, but I think fans of the show will recall years when people were searching incredibly large & crowded marketplaces or towns with a tangle of poorly marked alleys looking for places. I've given up on people driving on this hsow, LOL! There will always be people who don't adequately prepare in that regard. Same with not reading the clues properly. Although I will say, I was impressed with how well Glenda & Lumumba worked through thta half of the leg, despite being lost and realizing they messed up and knowing they were so far behind. Especially since they haven't been married for years & years like some couples have been over the course of the show. So they could have easily blamed that if they got overly-snippy or dramatic with one another. But they didn't. They dealt with it better than I would have, I promise you that! I am happy to have the double leg, because it boosts the total episode count, which makes me feel better about my earlier concern.

omg the father/daughter team this week - I have a tough time feeling any sympathy for them. Yes she has anxiety issues but geez. Her dad was very patient with her.
And I'm not sorry to see the last team leave. She was highly annoying to watch
