Just caught up on the latest episode. I am SO happy to see that rainbow hair gal -- whose name I have finally learned...it's Dom -- is gone. I was so hoping she was going to take a penalty to skip that "sculpting" task, lol. The daughter of father/daughter team was also annoying me, but for her father's sake I'm glad they didn't come in last. I hate it when contestants quit on these shows -- Survivor and Amazing Race -- because think how many others really wanted to be on. The quitters took up a spot that someone else would have been glad to take. Just realized that the only name I learned this week was Dom, and now she's gone. hahaha So I'm back to calling them Long Lost Twins (who I LOVE, and yay that they came in first!), and Tall Woman/Shorter Man, and Father/Daughter. lol. Although I think the shorter guy has an African-sounding name... Lumubu? or something like that? Now I need to look that up before next week. Or I could even scroll back through this thread where I know someone gave us a handy little chart of who's who.

So glad rainbow hair is gone. I was hoping she’d take the penalty. 😆
I was totally disappointed in the daughter wanting to quit and her crappy attitude BUT this was a looooong leg so I’m going to give her a pass. If her crappy attitude keeps up I hope they get eliminated.
This leg seemed way longer than 12 hours. Do they get to eat along the way? Get a pee break? If not, I can imagine being hungry, tired and anxious can get to a person.
I hope the twins win it all. What an amazing story they have.

I don't know how they do it now, but the peeing and eating was done when they want during a leg but obviously it just added to their time. They were only fed during mandatory rest times. This is all from a person I know who was on an earlier season-it was quite awhile ago so maybe things have changed, but that was what was done for her.

Super pleased with who was sent home. Did not care for them at all. I hope the daughter has a better attitude next week.
Love Emily and Molly, super glad they won the leg!

I love the twins and would love to hear more of their story. I was so pissed at the daughter whining about wanting to quit. I am happy with who went home. That lady with the multi colored hair annoyed me.

I'm very happy for Emma & Molly. I really figured that it was inevitable that Dom & ? (I need to recheck the chart!) would come in last sooner rather than later. She just didn't seem able to bolster herself the way she does others. I was sad to see the ways things went with the father/daughter this week. I hope they can move on and enjoy the rest of the race. As for pee breaks---I remember Kim & Penn Holderness talking about that and how difficult it was for them sometimes to figure out when was a good time to go. And Kim brought up that it's particularly difficult if you have a period during the race, which many people do wind up experiencing. I don't recall 100% if it was Kim/Penn or other previous teams who discussed getting desperate and using a bottle or just going off into a corner something to relieve themselves. Of course that works more easily for people with certain anatomies than others.

It was Emily's daughter. It is amazing isn't it? I remember my friend telling me about a little baby that had been adopted from China who always gravitated towards mirrors to play with. Turns out she had a twin that she had been separated from as well although they found out much earlier. I think it used to be pretty common. I am glad Emily and Molly found each other.

Here’s a video of Emily and Molly reuniting. Thanks for my morning cry. DD and I were wondering how they connected and found a story about Emily's daughter being identified as Molly's daughter through DNA testing but this video gives a much better picture of how it happened. As a minor hijack, DD's BBF was adopted from China and turned us on to a documentary about 3 girls discovering they are cousins through DNA testing and their attempts to try find their biological family. Found is on Netflix. Anyway, back to the show. I died laughing at how quickly Dom gave up on the sculpture task. Good gravy, did she really think any other team had the capability of knocking out highly artistic marble sculptures?! And, OMG, Sharik and Linton are DD(25) and DH. I hope after a good night's sleep she is all in for the next leg so I'm not giving up on her yet. Definitely rooting hard for Emily and Molly to win.

I didn't watch this week's episode until last night. Here are my thoughts:
Within the first 3 minutes I was already rolling my eyes about Dom and shaking my head. She already showed that she can't read a map at all in a previous episode so she's useless at navigating in the backseat while Rich (her partner who has the patience of a Saint) does all of the driving. He asked her if the sign up ahead said Florence and she said something like "I can't read all of the signs myself. I need you to read the signs too." OMG! Good grief girl! You can't even navigate because you can't read a map while your partner does all of the driving, the least you can do is read the signs so he can concentrate on the driving! If it had been me I would have yelled at her, but Rich talked sweetly to her instead and agreed he'd read the signs too.
When they got to Florence I was so glad to see the twins get there so quickly. I really love this team and laughed out loud when another team got there expressing confusion and a bit of "How in the world do we do this?" and Molly, not missing a beat said, "I took sculpting as a major in college." When Dom got there and immediately decided to take a 4 hour penalty instead of at least even attempting it I was really hoping she would do exactly that. Instead Rich her partner calmed her down and got her again to agree to at least try it for 15 minutes. Once she realized she didn't actually have to sculpt a realistic, artistic sculpture instead of calming down and getting on with the task, she carried on like she was actually having to sculpt it anyway moaning about how hard it was and crying. Maybe it was because this was a mega leg and she was exhausted, but if that was the case why didn't she have her partner do that challenge? Anyway, I think she should have been eliminated back during the challenge when she broke the rule and didn't wear the hat part of her costume like the rule said she had to, so this was just icing on the cake. I was relieved to see them get eliminated and not Glenda and Lumumba (the tall wife/short husband).
I was liking the Jamaican father/daughter team before this episode and I get folks who have anxiety-my son has it. So I thought it was great that Sharik (the daughter) stepped up to do her first challenge. What I didn't like at all was the when she was finished she said that she hated it and she was done. She was ready to go home and kept up that attitude all the way up to stepping on the mat and talking to Phil. To me she sounded like an entitled brat. So many people apply to go on shows like this. When you are chosen you are taking the place of those who didn't get picked. Phil gave it right back to her and told her she had a choice-go home right then or keep racing. I'm sure he was pissed about it too. I hate when people quit shows like this because they let down all of those folks who've applied and didn't get picked when they come on just to quit. I like the father but as a team goes I'm not liking them anymore.
Wasn't it interesting about the tiny doors and how they used them during the plague and also during Covid? I thought that challenge was easier than the fashion challenge.
I was hopping up and down on the couch hoping Emily and Molly would win and beat out M&M (my name for the military brothers) and get first place and they did! I love their story and their attitude.
I was really glad Glenda and Lumumba (the tall wife/short husband) were able to make up some time, make it to the mat and not get eliminated.
I still also like Will and Abby and was happy to see them come in 3rd place this episode.
Update: Well now I feel really bad: I just read on Facebook that Dom's grandmother was in the process of passing away during filming and her mind was not all on the race. Maybe that's part of why she was crying during the sculpting and not as strong as she could have been?

Kind of a snoozer episode, I’m not sad the father daughter team was last. Now it’s gonna be competitive because all of the slower team are gone.
The previews showed someone tests positive for Covid next week. That’s gonna be a crappy way to get eliminated.

It was a rather boring episode. I was surprised when they were heading to the pit stop because it didn’t seem like much had happened to that point. And, I realize I like the removal of non-elimination legs. Seems more fair.

Maybe that's part of why she was crying during the sculpting and not as strong as she could have been? I'm so very sorry to hear this, of course, but also a bit relieved to understand that there was more at play than just race pressure getting to her, because I was legitimately concerned about the airing of the show having at least some degree of negative effect on her work as a motivational speaker with her showing such poor ability to motivate herself. But knowing that she was carrying a difficult emotional weight in her heart and mind on top of the typical race stress certainly makes me, at least, feel more understanding about why she struggled so much.

Just finished watching the most recent episode. I LOVED that they went to Jordan, and especially to Petra! Petra is on my lifetime bucket list. I'm worried about the one twin's leg...hopefully it will heal up okay because that's my favorite team. I was not sad to see the father/daughter team go home, although I liked him well enough. She seemed to have a better attitude this episode -- but still I thought it was ironic that there she was on the sidelines of the metal detecting task criticizing her dad's efforts, when she was a whiny crybaby last week. And they should have thought through that camel challenge before they tried it... They're in a really hot country, and it's with animals. lol. Anyone who has watched a season or two of Amazing Race knows that animal challenges have potential to go very wrong. At least they didn't have to lead this camel somewhere, but still... Sad about the positive covid test next week.

And yes...about challenges with animals...LOL I am not sad the father/daughter team are gone and anxious for other teams to start getting more airtime. I feel like I don't know to much about the middle of the pack racers. Abby & Will - all I know is they are HS sweethearts and smile all the time. I feel like I had heard about Dom's grandmother being sick during filming. That's very sad and must have really weighed on her while they racing. What I found interesting about her was that she seemed to lift up everyone around her -- meditating with other racers, giving affirmations to people in the race and who they encountered during the race, etc but couldn't do that for herself.

Last episode was a bit of a snoozer, wasn't it? 2 boring challenges in such an exotic location-wish production had done a more creative job designing more interesting challenges. But I shouldn't complain, at least TAR is back on, right? I thought the "looking in the sand for a big piece of metal with a metal detector" challenge looked fairly easy, but of course they had to do it in the blazing sun and intense heat. I think it was Derek (Derek and Claire team) who decided to run around with the metal detector and found it very quickly-great thinking. If you got there early you were lucky-there were more pieces to find.
I'm also worried about the Twins and the leg injury (can't remember which twin it was that hurt her leg). They are my favorite team and I really hope to see them make the final 3. Plus we have the anxiety of waiting until next week to find out which team tested positive for Covid. I wonder how they will handle this? I hope they won't eliminate that team completely and bring back the last team eliminated (Sharik and Linton). In another version of Amazing Race (the Australian version-I didn't see it, just read about it on Facebook) 5 teams came down with Covid last season and they had those teams sit out until they recovered and then come back in to the race. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be the twins, Glenda and Lumumba, Abby and Will or Marcus and Michael.

I haven't watched AR since way before Covid. All the teams flying on a chartered flight was new to me. Is that new this season or have they done it before? A lot of the challenge of the race was finding quicker flights.

A lot of the challenge of the race was finding quicker flights. This is one of the Covid accommodations and allowed them to travel and film last year. They can keep a tighter control of following different Covid protocols around the world, less exposure on public flights (and trains, buses, subways), test and quarantine as needed, etc. It also means teams don't depart 12 hours after checking in so we don't have middle of the night departures and hours long differences in start times, teams sleeping in front of the clue box type stuff. I'm not a fan of sending them off in waves 15 minutes apart but they do seem to arrive in waves at the finish mat.

We loved the teams being in Florence as they were in places that we visited in late September/early October. I was really glad Glenda and Lumumba (the tall wife/short husband) were able to make up some time, make it to the mat and not get eliminated. Maybe it has already been said but he reminds me so much of Kevin Hart, especially his voice!! Abby & Will - all I know is they are HS sweethearts and smile all the time. For those of you who watch Survivor, when Will has his hair in a man-bun, he reminds me so much of Joe! We didn't get previews this week so I had no idea someone tested positive for Covid.

Am I remembering this wrong, or have they shortened up the challenges before each pit stop? And that they each used different skills? I thought there used to be three challenges each episode--one they both had to do, one where they had a choice, and one that one of the pair had to perform (I forget the names of the challenge types). This season there are only two. And one week it all had to do with music.

A lot of the challenge of the race was finding quicker flights. Pre-covid they have had pre-booked flights for some time, so teams are no longer responsible for finding their own flights. Instead they would be given a departure time based on the order they checked in, with the earlier group of teams usually flying out around an hour before the second group of teams. I read an interview over the last couple of years that said in the early days, when teams were responsible for finding their own flights, there were instances where the production crew that travelled ahead to set up the challenges, would be arriving at the same time as the fastest team. I guess this also allows them to more easily manage minimum rest times between legs, and I don't mind that it sort of levels the playing field again, although there are times when I feel like a team that should have gone home gets an awful lot of second chances.

Petra is quite high on my travel bucket list, I started seriously looking into flights earlier this year and trying to work out when we might be able to go. The scenery was beautiful, but I also felt like the challenges were a bit underwhelming, and I was surprised how easy the slide puzzle one appeared to be.
I was sorry to see the father go, I quite liked him, but I feel his daughter still didn't have her heart in it, so it was probably for the best. I like a lot of the teams that are left so I don't have a preference for who I'd like to see go home next.
