Hi ladies!
I've recently (about a month and a half) had a weird issue. I have 3 sterling silver rings.
Two are Tiffany (I bought them myself- one in the late 90's and one in the early 00's) and a sterling silver ring I bought on a Caribbean island (forgot which one) somewhere between the purchase of the other two. All three are gemstone solitaires (different stones.)
Anyway, I wore one of the Tiffany rings, and the Caribbean ring greater than half the time since purchase. I shower with them on. I sleep with them on. I cook, do dishes, clean and swim with them on. I do have a job where I often take them off during certain tasks that I do, but I wash my hands alot, and usually before putting them back on.
I haven't changed household cleaners, I haven't changed face/eye creams, make up, hair products, shampoo/conditioner/ body wash /laundry soap...
About a month ago, both of these "every day" rings tarnished. I have literally been wearing them both, over a decade, and neither EVER tarnished. One, much faster than the other (over the course of days.) I took them off, then put them in the safe. When I did that, I took the second Tiffany ring (much like the first- just different stones and shape) out, then wore it. I took the two tarnished rings to a jewelry store (Kay) when another ring needed an inspection, and they cleaned them. (Mind you, Tiffany ring number 2 hadn't been showing tarnish and I'd been wearing it about 2 weeks-ish- so no cleaning.) Anyway, I kinda liked wearing Tiffany ring number 2 and had events coming up, so I put Tiffany ring number 1 back in the safe, and continued wearing Tiffany ring number 2 and the Caribbean ring.
Friday, about two weeks later, Tiffany number 2 was looking off... Yesterday, both rings are tarnished terribly! I went downstairs, and the Tiffany ring (cleaned by Kay) in the safe looks great! Today, I took Tiffany 1 and 2 to the Tiffany store and asked what they thought may be going on? The lady was less than helpful and just stuck them in pouches and they'll call me when it's time to come pick them up from their fancy Tiffany cleanings.
At first I thought perhaps they were rhodium coated and that wore off... But why would all three rings act exactly the same? Especially the one that has lived in the safe except for rare occasions over the last decade plus? BTW, the rings never touch, one on each hand, or stored separately. My fingers look fine, no reaction. I wear white gold/ diamond earrings that I take out only for haircoloring (they look fine.) They are older than all three rings.
What gives? Has anyone had their body chemistry change and affect sterling silver? (Nothing specific going on with my body, just late 40's..)
