I'm not coming at you. If I could, I would! I didn't decorate in '19 because DH and my Dad passed. Put up a tree with lights, that's it and I could barely handle that. I didn't decorate in '20 because I was packing up the house for the renovation. I didn't decorate in '21 because renovation from hell, still going on. I probably won't decorate in '22 because renovation from hell, still going on. Honestly, once this renovation is done I just may decorate even if it's March! I love decorating for Christmas and it's KILLING me not to be able to decorate/bake. I have noticed a shift since COVID where people wouldn't decorate until the day after Thanksgiving and now it seems it's the day after Halloween. I'm okay with that

Our neighbors just put up the roof lights today. Our neighbors had someone do theirs last week but they haven't turned them on yet. I am tempted to go ahead and put my candle lights in the windows today and maybe the tree next week.

We never start Christmas decorating until First Advent weekend, which is usually around US Thanksgiving. The tree goes up mid December, as we get a real one and it doesn't last if we get it much earlier.
This year though, I am not decorating, as we are flying to visit family on Australia in early December, ad staying into the New Year, so it isn't worth it.

I wait until after Remembrance Day. This year, the decorations will go up next Sunday.

Don’t come at me, but I already have one up and decorated, and will probably do a second tomorrow. I am doing 6 decorated ones this year, so rather than try to do them all in a short time frame I spread them out, and we will probably do the last (main) one as a family the night before Thanksgiving. I change them up a little each year, so it’s always fun for me to plan out what color combinations/themes will go where. I’m doing a Harry Potter tree for the first time this year, which I’m excited about, but it’s been hard finding ornaments that aren’t really expensive or really cheesy, or both! 😂 How about you? Are you a get it up early or wait until closer to Christmas? Do you decorate it by yourself or with others? Fresh or fake? Minimalist or maximalist? I'm in the mood this year to try to do things early, so having the first of many trees up sounds just about right to me right now. -- ENJOY! The family I grew up in would buy a live tree just before Christmas and it remained in the garage until Santa could get it, put it up and decorate it on Christmas Eve after I had gone to bed and to sleep. Christmas morning - the only day of the year I was up first - I'd wake up while it was still dark and creep downstairs to make sure Santa had come. I'd wait for what seemed like forever, which may have meant daylight, before I would grab my stocking and go in to my parents room. Mom slept closest to the door and I'd quietly wake her up and then sit there and open my stocking with her. After that, everyone else got up. Mom was the best! She even knew how to open the little puzzle box I got one year. I could never figure out why everyone was so tired, though! I used to have multiple trees with lots and lots of ornaments, too. I even had an entire tree dedicated to book ornaments and favorite characters reading books that was a favorite. One year I got the bright idea to try to surprise my kids, who slept in the same room, and put up a tree in their room on Christmas Eve after they had gone to sleep. They woke up to quite the surprise that year! Another year, when we had been evacuated and living far from home, I put up a tree super early. I don't remember if it was before or after Thanksgiving, but it was far earlier than any I had ever had before. It was a white tree with color-themed, simple balls that was completely different from anything we had ever had before. It was beautiful and it just fit the changes our lives were going through. One year, I picked up a tiny artificial tree in the school colors and plopped it on the desk in the motel we were staying in to visit one of my kids over Christmas. 2020 I ordered a tree that didn't get here until after the Christmas season was over, so I just tucked the unopened box away until last year. It's a simple, pre-lit tree already decorated in a nature theme. Last year I got the box out and told my kids to put it up and went out to do errands. They took it out of the box, stood it up and plugged it in. Done and perfect. Fresh or fake? Fake this year. Mini or maximalist? It will be simple with pretty simple ornaments --- only because I no longer have my old ornaments. And I will mostly do it by myself, with probably a bit of help from my daughter. I know I just wrote a book, but I've started assembling 2 December unDaily books together, and realized this would be a great story to include. It's going to be another, very different, special Christmas for us this year, so it's the perfect time to include a look-back. Thanks, Gennifer!

I'm probably going to have to do my parents tree this year. It's freaking massive - they bought a new one last year - said they were going smaller. Yes, it's smaller by about 6 inches. ugh. My step-father is VERY particular. "No, not there!!". "That one always go over there". It's gong to be a stressful day dealing with his demands and I'm not looking forward to it, but they can't do it anymore. I have a narrow 4 foot tree that I am going to offer them, but they won't take it. They want their big tree.

I am tempted to go ahead and put my candle lights in the windows today and maybe the tree next week. I have a neighbor who left the candle lights up all year and they looked good the whole time. I think a lot of that has to do with the house and how it's situated on the lot (with lots of tall trees around it) and on this particular street. I tried to find good candle lights but only found some with weak lights that died so fast, I was able to take them back before Christmas. I'd love suggestions of where to get good ones!

Ooooh, now I want to put my candle lights up today. I LOVE them. I have had them for 10 years! They are expensive but have lasted and work so well. These are the ones I have. I bought them somewhere else years ago so do a Google search to see if you can find them cheaper. I wasn't able to find them cheaper in 2017 when I ordered a few more. LOVE these! I like a real tree and like to keep it up through the first week of January so we don’t pick up a tree until after thanksgiving. I did swap out the quilts on my blanket ladder for Christmas quilts.

We always decorate after Thanksgiving. I would be totally up for doing it early this year, but I have family coming for Thanksgiving (we live in different states) with special needs kids and the Christmas stuff would be a bit too stimulating for them, so we are going to wait. <3

When the kids lived at home I always had two large trees - the living room was my tree that was decorated in color coordinating ornaments that matched the room. The more elegant tree with the vintage glass ornaments etc. The large tree in the family room was for my massive santa ornament collection, all of the kids homemade ornaments and the ornaments my mom collected for me as a kid.
Sadly now that we are empty nesters the family room is not used much (unless they are all here visiting) so I just put up the large tree in the living room the day after Thanksgiving. I decorate the mantle of our fireplace and have my David Frykman santa collection displayed throughout the living room. The dining room has one of my nativity sets (my mother in laws) displayed on the buffet table. The other nativity set (my mothers) is displayed in the living room on the buffet table under the TV.
I'm seriously considering looking into these "pencil" trees that a few of you have commented on. I'm thinking that maybe a couple of those in the corner of my dining room would be awesome and I could bring out our bin of santa & kids ornaments.
Although I live on 5 acres of pine trees - I am allergic to them - so no fresh tree in the house for me. We have always had to have fake. But the tree I have for my living room is very very nice and once decorated looks very real.
I do have 3 large planters outside that I plan to gather pine & spruce boughs for - will add red berry boughs, large pinecone boughs etc. along with the spruce tree stakes already in them. Those are on my front porch. Also have artificial pine boughs with lights to decorate the railings. Usually that is all we put up for lights. We do have a 10 foot star that my husband made out of pipe and wrapped in lights. He will bring that out and place in our front yard and then he runs three strings of lights (about 25' long each) from the star down into the front meadow. So from the road it looks like a shooting star.
Living out in the country we don't have a lot of traffic so we don't get too crazy with outside light on the house.
Just got our first good dusting of snow here in the Hills overnight so this morning it feels a bit more festive!

I still have my trees decorated for Halloween.
My son destroys any ornament that resembles a ball, so my ornament options are tricky. Two little trees are all I can handle. We do pick a theme to switch things up.

Bumping up this thread to share my mostly completed Astros tree. I’m still looking for a few more things for it. Don’t judge - I’m not very Pinterest-y.😂

I’m 8 months pregnant due around Christmas so have debated putting our trees (I do two) up earlier than usual. It’s just getting harder to move around and would be so disappointed it I delivered early and had no Christmas tree as a result. Congrats!

I have just moved ... I have also just ordered a new white 7 ft tree that won't be here for at least a week so no decorating until it arrives ... My adult dd's (ages 19 and 23) are going to want to help so it probably won't happen for awhile ... gotta organize our schedules! I still have some moving boxes in my living room that I need to unpack

9 foot tree went up in the front window today, no decorations yet. There’s still a Halloween wreath up in the window outside. I don’t care lol. The wreath will come down tomorrow tho.

I didn't end up putting it up this weekend, will have to do it next time we're out.

I usually don't decorate til after Thanksgiving, but I'm having surgery this Wed and no bending or lifting for around three weeks. I'm leaning towards getting it up in the next two days.

My prelit tree is up and fluffed but that’s as far as I got yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised that after 5 years the lights are still going. I had about 4 burned out bulbs but the were easy to replace.

I think I better check on mine and see if I need to get a new one. This summer was record heat. I’ve moved furniture around in prep. I always put it in front window, but I can never see it from where I sit in the living room. So, I’m putting it where *I* can see it. That only took me 18 years of living here to figure out. I’m going to love it.

Ours will be a fresh tree, so it won't go up until the first or second week of December. Fresh, because that's what other family members want. I long for the day I can just have a small fake tree.
We just have some unbreakable ornaments that we use every year.

My husband wanted to put ours up today but we got too busy. Maybe tomorrow night. I used to put up 9 different trees but will only have 3 this year. We’re all excited because our granddaughter will be 1 next week so Christmas will start being fun and filled with toys again.

I put up the one we moved with us with the kids yesterday, we didn't decorate it, just put it up with the tree skirt and train. It looks ridiculous (9ft tree, 15+ft ceilings) in the room, way too small. So we lucked out and a good friend of my bil was selling a 12ft one for a good price. They dropped off the first box tonight and they are bringing the other boxes by tomorrow. We gave away our 7.5 one when we moved. I think I will get another one next year, because we have the perfect front window in the dinning room with 7'10 ceilings so one would fit perfect there!
I am going to be looking at after Christmas sales for a 7-7.5 ft one and a 4-6 ft one for dd's room. She would love a harry potter tree. We love the Pottery Barn Teen ornaments, but they are so pricey! So another thing I am going to be watching after Christmas sales for!
I'm thinking the 12ft tree will be my "adult" tree. All the blue, white, and silver ornaments I have been collecting over the years. The 9ft I'm either going to put in the front entry or the library and I think I'll do that one with our Disney ornaments this year. Next year the dining room one will have all our travel ornaments on it!

Not yet. We're doing some work in our living room. I'm hoping to do it right after turkey day. We usually leave our tree up into February, though, so there's plenty of time to enjoy it.
