Don’t come at me, but I already have one up and decorated, and will probably do a second tomorrow. I am doing 6 decorated ones this year, so rather than try to do them all in a short time frame I spread them out, and we will probably do the last (main) one as a family the night before Thanksgiving. I change them up a little each year, so it’s always fun for me to plan out what color combinations/themes will go where. I’m doing a Harry Potter tree for the first time this year, which I’m excited about, but it’s been hard finding ornaments that aren’t really expensive or really cheesy, or both! 😂
How about you? Are you a get it up early or wait until closer to Christmas? Do you decorate it by yourself or with others? Fresh or fake? Minimalist or maximalist?

No Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. I’m more minimalist, but DH loves to decorate and takes over most of it.

We buy a fresh tree, so we wait until early December to buy it. So, no decorations up yet. We usually put the lights on the house after Thanksgiving. And we are in the minimalist camp.

No Christmas trees until the first of December - at the very earliest! I’ll need to get all of the decorations out of the eaves before then this year, as DS flies out to see his GF in Florida on 29 November. I cannot get into the eaves at all, so that will be his final task before he disappears for five weeks!

I think my husband is getting it the week of Thanksgiving,he's on vacation. That's a little early for us. He usually gets it between the first and second week in December. He sets it in the stand and puts the lights on. I decorate it at my leisure, finishing usually in a day, maybe 2. My kids do help but very little. I have ornaments from my childhood, so they're over 50 years old. Every ornament has a meaning. Whether a gift or a memory of someone or a time or place.

We are going to WDW for Thanksgiving week, so won't be here to put up our tree on Black Friday (our usual day), so Dh just told me he would put it up next weekend on the 13th. That is the earliest by far that we have ever put it up, but I am really happy about it.
It has been an insanely busy year with my first year with my own elementary school classroom, so I am looking forward to coming home each night to a sparkling lit tree.

I just bought a new white 7 ft tree today online! It will be delivered this week! I have just moved into my new condo so it won't be put up for awhile ... so much unpacking to do! Here in Canada, most of us don't do Christmas decorating until after Remembrance Day on November 11th ... I have a new sofa and chair coming on the 12th so no decorating will be happening until after that.

Normally I would not decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving, but since we are going to be traveling for 10 days around Thanksgiving, I plan on starting to decorate my house before we leave. I most likely wont get my trees up before the 15th, but everything else is coming up and getting decorated in the next week or so.
December is a ridiculously busy month for us and I want to have one less thing to do when we get home from vacation.
Edited to add: I am very old-fashioned in my main tree. It has all the ornaments from my family, through the years. Every year my kids get a new ornament so my main tree is loaded with memories and I love it.
The tree in my room is decorated with cream and mercury glass, so very calm. The tree in the dining room is red & cream and has all the handpainted ornaments we've done (and still add to each year). The tree in the guest room is decorated with cream and black and the short tree in my kitchen is done in red and cream and has a very handmade feel to it.
This year for our Christmas party at DH's man cave, we are doing two trees - one by the bar that will have liquor & beer ornaments and then the tree by where the cars are parked will be done in car & car manufacture ornaments (mainly ornaments of the cars we own).

We will start after Thanksgiving. I’m watching all the movies and have fake candles and fairy lights but no trees yet.

I normally put mine up around the start of Dec, but rarely before then. All three of my siblings have Dec birthdays, as a kid Mum always made us wait until after the party for the last one had been held before we could put up the tree as a way of trying to keep their birthdays separate from Christmas.

I put mine up on November 1st in 2020, and mid-November last year. I'll probably put it up next weekend at this point!

No, we have 3 grandchildren and Dh with birthdays in November but aside from that I prefer to wait until Dec anyway. I don’t like Christmas to take over too much of the year. Gennifer - when you say you change it up etc does that mean you buy new sets of decorations in different colours each year? I always do everything in silver and add a new large bauble or two to my collection each year. I would probably enjoy doing a different colour scheme sometimes but I just love silver/white themes 😊

We always have a real tree, and we will buy it about a week before christmas, this year it will be decorated the 23. when my youngest is home from christmas. My oldest DD, her DH our DGS and my sister will join us.
As a child we always decorated the tree the 23., when I moved out (and my parents moved 40 min. away) my sister and I continued the tradition at my place. Now It’s not always the 23. it depends of everyones calender.
For me it is the same ornaments, hearts etc. every year, maybe with something new added. This year the buttom will be with plastic ornaments, as my DGS. (2 1/2 yo) will be joining us in the decoration.

My mom’s birthday was 15th December and there was never a sniff of Christmas till after that. Now our tree goes up the first week in December. I love co-ordinated and classy trees but since the grandchildren have been born, they do it with DH. It usually looks like an explosion in Santa’s workshop. I’d love more trees in and outside the house but there is no space inside and with cats and dogs they would be down in moments. We’ve not had a real tree for years, partly because I didn’t want animals and crawling babies to get spiked by the needles but mainly because it saddens me to see trees cut down for just a few weeks and then discarded when there are so many lovely artificial ones.

I have a couple of things to return to M&S so I’m just waiting (im)patiently for them to open.

I have a small pencil tree that I leave up all year in my front living room - it has white lights and nothing else. The glow from the lights makes me smile every time I walk by. That pencil tree will move to the dining room after Thanksgiving so I can set up my main tree - artificial and easy to assemble. I love real trees but can’t do it anymore. My kids always get real trees so I enjoy theirs at their houses. For me though, easy is good. I have boxes of Hallmark ornaments and souvenir ornaments that my kids made, but a couple years ago I bought all gold and white glass balls and have been using those. It makes a simple elegant tree, and I even bought gold tinsel! No tree is finished until it has single strand tinsel on every bough.

We always host Thanksgiving so I like to have my fall decor still up then. The weekend after Thanksgiving is when I take down Fall and start putting up Christmas.

Not the tree yet but we are putting up our outside lights today (but we won't turn them on until Thanksgiving). It's going to be in the 70's today but next weekend it will be in the 40s and rainy and then we leave for Florida for Thanksgiving. So I made the case to my DH that today would be perfect and he wouldn't have to battle snow and cold as previously. And I say he because I generally hand him things and direct where they go. I won't climb a ladder .

My grandson would love to start decorating for Christmas. I did let him buy a mini tree and color changing light bulb for his room at Target yesterday. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving, but I'll probably bend for him this year.

I’m going to consider it a Christmas miracle if I get everything done for my club’s Christmas party on 12/3. If I still have any energy left then I’ll think about putting up some decorations.

No but I did program my car radio with the satellite holiday channels yesterday and have thought about starting to bring the boxes of stuff up in preparation. Plus I have been in total Christmas mood - lots of looking at decorations for sale and looking for ideas to change things up a little.

Nope. Trees don't go up until after Thanksgiving. We're having a stretch of dry and warm weather this week so the lights outside will go up but not plugged in until December 1st.
SIL has a tree up year round and decorates it for the seasons. For September and October, she has fall themed stuff on it and around the house. On November 1, the house gets decorated for Christmas and I mean decorated. She takes down all of the pictures and replaces them with different Santa pictures. There's the main big tree and mini tree in the living room and a small tree in their bedroom. Even the bathroom gets Christmas decorations.

No. Prob Dec 10
Dh, ds and I decorate together and our tree is artifical, from Balsam Hill. It is a prelit flip tree and so easy to put up! The decorations are ornaments accumulated throughout the years, lots of Hallmark, and some bulbs.

Ok so...I haven't taken down my Halloween decorations yet. 🤣 I always drag Halloween out as best I can. I have election day off work so I will go vote and then spend my day packing everything away.
The COVID years I put everything up early. Like very early. This year I feel like I want to change things up a bit and get a real tree. Jeremy's not going to like it as I'm going to make him cut it down and drag it in. So I haven't yet told him that's what I want. I expect he will complain a bit but then ultimately he will go with my idea. So I'm going to broach the topic around Thanksgiving.

My kids would never let me put the decorations out until after Thanksgiving, but now that they are out of the house, I can do what I want. Last year was too hard to do anything, although I put up one pre-lit tree for the dog sitter. This year, I'll be with my girls out of the country, but I do want to have something for the dog sitter. I bought a pencil tree and it is so pretty. I put that up and am going to get a few decorations out. It makes my house look warm.

I'm in a group who puts on a holiday home tour for charity so we've been thinking about Christmas since March and we get a lot of great ideas from past years.
