I usually make a breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls or some other sweet bread like a french toast casserole. This year, only my daughter is going to be here Christmas morning, and that is a lot of food for just the two of us. I following Sally's Baking Addiction, and she recently shared a recipe for gingerbread waffles that I am going to make for us along with some sausage patties. It will be weird to not do my usual thing, but I am trying to embrace new things, too.

An egg casserole. It is made the night before and goes in the oven while we are opening presents.

To everyone that makes monkey bread, can I cut up the biscuits and roll in sugar and cinnamon tonight and just put them in the fridge to then bake in the morning? Or will the cinnamon sugar mixture turn syrupy? I could just cut up the biscuits tonight and coat them in the morning.

This is my favorite monkey bread - you make it the night before, let it sit to thaw on the counter (you use frozen rolls) and then bake it in the morning. Comes out perfectly every time. iambaker.net/monkey-bread/

What does everyone do for Christmas breakfast? I usually either make homemade biscuits and gravy or homemade cinnamon rolls. The boys and I are trying to come up with a plan for this year. So we decided on Monkey Bread. We haven’t done it in years. Yep! I do that every year. The rolls are tossed in the sugar mix and still in the bag in the fridge, and I pre measured the sugar & butter into a container so I can just put it in a pot in the morning. I do it every year. the rolls are a little more stuck together after sitting in the fridge but it’s easy to pull them apart and put them in the pan.

My family does not like sweets (seriously if I make a batch of cookies they will sit uneaten for days - very odd)
So I make an egg and potato casserole - my favorite is one by julia child with sausage in it.

I mix the sugar, cinnamon and biscuits before and let it stay in the ziploc until morning... mix up the butter/brown sugar thing.... then just toss the biscuits the bundt pan... microwave the butter stuff for a few seconds.. drizzle it over the biscuits.. pop it in the oven...
If you like cinnamon rolls... you can cut up those instead of biscuits... i dont add sugar n cinnamon if im using cinnamon rolls... just the butter/brown sugar... i think its a lazy monkey bread... lol but its yummy...

My DH started the tradition of monkey bread about 10-12 years ago. I had to take it over when he passed 2 years ago so I'm still learning how to make them.
I have the monkey bread recipe with the frozen Rhodes dinner rolls. The problem is the rolls are hard to cut while frozen (I think they are cut in half or quarters) and the sugar/pudding mix doesn't stick to the rolls unless you dip them in butter first and then roll in sugar. It ends up taking a long time to put together and since I don't make them until right before bed, it's a bit tedious. Is there an easier way to make them that still turns out nice --each piece having a nice sticky outer coating?? They have cooked very quickly with a bit of burned edges the past 2 years so I'm going to lower the oven temperature 25% this time.
ETA: I think I would probably like this a bit better using biscuits. Do you use the Pillbury kind that come in the compressed can?

German pancakes, sausage links, fruit, eggnog and sparkling apple cider. I've suggested other dishes but my kids are very set on this tradition. Merilee

I’m sure the Rhodes rolls would be delicious though! I like to buy the package of 4 cans of the small biscuits. I quarter them and roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

I can see how the cinnamon and pudding coating would easily stick to canned biscuits. I'll definitely be trying that next year!!

We used to make the ones you make but switched when it became hard to find the pudding mix. These are really easy and good.
