I know the difference but.... yeah, I use both words (curtain more often) to mean the same thing.

I think so - curtains are shear and drapes are not.

My husband worked in his uncle's window covering business all through high school. He knows more about windows, drapes, curtains, blinds and tie backs than I care to know about.

Truthfully I voted NO but after I thought about it we call them sheers (sp???) and drapes. I did have to think. Deeply.

drapes are attached with hooks and such..along a traveling rod insert...curtains are just plain panels of fabric on rod, --or thats how I define it.

I always thought they were the same. I learn something new everyday here.

I thought they were the same thing. Since watching that movie called The Heat DH now calls them "window blankets"

The words should be curtains and draperies. And I asked DH, to which he replied "Well, if it's curtains for you it's bad news, but if it's draperies it's so what". So I will have to take that as a big freakin' 'No, he hadn't a clue'.

Yes, because I tell him repeatedly although he still calls them all curtains. Lol. Curtains are short, drapes are long.

To my understanding curtains are not necessarily sheer, but they are typically a lighter weight fabric and unlined. Drapes are heavier and almost always lined. My husband knows there is a difference. We had many discussions about it when we bought our home several years back. I favor lighter curtain-like window treatments while he favors heavier drapery-like ones. (In case you are wondering... we compromised. We went lighter in the casual rooms and heavier in the formal rooms which is pretty standard anyway.)

I doubt it. And since he can't seem to hit the toilet dead on, throws his socks into the laundry hamper inside out, doesn't rinse his dishes off or replace an empty toilet paper roll, he has plenty of other stuff to learn first before we tackle that.

So, it looks like those who differentiate curtains and drapes don't agree on the difference.

Well, so, then what do we call the fleece blanket that conveniently had a pocket for me to run a curtain rod through that I hung up in my bedroom?
(In case you are wondering WHY I have a fleece blanket hung on the window, it's behind a set of drapes AND a set of blinds so that I could really REALLY block out the light.)

Nope. He also doesn't know the difference between:
-Coat and Jacket -Peach and Pink -Knitting and Crocheting (sometimes he calls them "sewing")
On the other hand, he rolls his eyes when I confuse a Jonathan apple with a MacIntosh, or a Honey Rock Melon with a Howell Melon (he sells Produce). I guess it's all what you pay attention to.

How does this topic come up so often between the two of you? Because we have drapes, and several times per week, he will ask DS or I to open/close the curtains!!

Well seeing that *I* don't know the difference between curtains and drapes, I doubt that DSO knows!
Where I live they are the same thing.

And now it's my turn to almost spit my drink (hot chocolate) all over my computer screen. Apparently quite a few of us are married to this man.
