We are flying out to my MILs funeral on Thursday. Our only road to get out of our neighborhood was barricaded a few days ago because it was so deep. We are trying to come up with a plan in case that happens again with this next storm. Hard to predict where we can keep our car and still have a way to get to the freeway.

We're having to conserve water (no dishwashing, using the washer, short showers, etc.) because ash from the Caldor fire has gotten into the water system and it's taking them longer than usual to purify our water.

There is no chance I would get on the ferry tomorrow if the weather is really as predicted, no matter what they say about it being safe. Oh hell NO.
I don’t even want to get in the CAR.

I got a notification from the town where I will be staying that they are setting up charging centers through Friday because they expect the power to be intermittent through Friday :/ At this point, my hope is that our flight lands and that I'm able to get the rental car and I'll figure out the rest, lol! Still don't have a raincoat although my Bay-area based cousin who is currently hanging out in Tahoe just sent me a selfie and he is wearing one. I will be staying in the greater Sacramento area for at least a month and I have to say, when I made my packing last, "atmospheric river" and "bomb cyclone" were not on my radar.

My 20yo is driving back from Mendocino tomorrow with his girlfriend- we strongly discouraged them but he said they have to leave tomorrow- so they will be on the road by 5am to try to beat the storm. I’ll be worrying until they show up.

My little town had 2.5 inches from the New Years storm but I didn't see any other damage around town. We usually lose power if a squirrel burps so I'm anticipating it going out tomorrow. I don't have a flashlight but I do have plenty of candles. And plenty of blankets to keep me and the cats warm. We are predicted to have rain for pretty much the next week but I'm hoping the next storms won't be as bad as this one is predicted.

We went 6 weeks with high levels of hydrogen sulfide around town changing our old moniker from "Sugar Town" to "Shi%%y Town."

The wind is really starting to pick up here in Sonoma County.

I don’t get it. I’m in the North Bay and we usually get hit hard in any storm. I canceled on taking my mom in Walnut Creek grocery shopping this morning even though it wasn’t raining here yet, and she was fine with that because “the weather is so terrible.” Every time I check the weather app, it says it’s raining at my house. It is not. It was supposed to get really nasty starting at 2:00 pm. Nothing happened. It is now 4:40 pm and it has barely rained all day, and there’s no wind. The ground is wet, but I never got hit with noticeable raindrops any time I went outside, which was several times over the course of the day. The city next door has a main thoroughfare closed down because a tree fell and is blocking it, and we don’t even have a breeze here. WTF? How about the rest of you who are kind of nearby? Jen in NCal ? ~summer~ ?

lucyg it’s been calm here all day but the rain is starting up now. (When I tried to go running in Tilden this morning all the trails were marked closed with red signs - so I skipped it not wanting to get a citation…)

I’m in Marin County and it’s been pretty crazy all day. The wind is blowing hard and it’s raining hard too. We’re waiting to see how everything fares after this.

Here in Sonoma County it’s been raining all day.
We were suppose to get a break for a couple of hours before this heavier rain came ashore. We did not.
So now there is a combination of the heavier rain and wind. And as I pound this out the wind is picking up and rain is getting heavier.
If we don’t lose power I will be surprised.

Definitely heavier than this morning. Sonoma County activated their emergency operations center. I am a retired County employee and worked phones and other areas for several floods in the past.

It’s the first time I’ve seen the park closed due to wintery weather (they started closing it 2 years ago sometimes for wildfire danger) It’s definitely coming down hard here now…

Yes, I came back to report that it’s coming down pretty hard here, too, finally. Still not much wind but I guess it will pick up. ~summer~And thanks for the reminder, onelasttime. I just plugged in my phone in case the power goes out. It doesn’t usually here, but just in case. I can hear the wind picking up out there as I type. Probably going to be regretting my cavalier attitude soon.

Things got real here about 1.5 hours ago. Really heavy rain and scary gusts. Somehow, we still have power. Guess the squirrels didn't burp today. Phone is charged, battery packs are also charged and I have a candle within reach with the matches so I don't have to stumble around with just the phone light to find it.

South San Jose. We had a windy and sprinkle-y morning and early afternoon. Once the sun went down, the rain came up. It is raining very steadily but not a worrying amount. We usually get less than everyone else because the Santa Cruz mountains absorbs so much of it first.
I am glad I paid my son to clean out the gutters in between these storms.

We lose power because it’s Thursday and sunny. 🤣

CA doesn’t get snow days, we get rain days! The wind is really starting to pick up here in Sonoma County. Snowflakes! We have school tomorrow and have, in the past, taught with no power and thunder and lightning and pouring rain and gale force winds. We got an email telling us to be prepared to teach with no electricity and no internet this week. 😂. Got it. So, we will play board and card games.
