Some dumbasses out there are setting off fireworks, even though it’s raining. (This used to be a legal fireworks town, and old habits die hard.) Happy New Year.

Very rainy here, maybe 4 to 5 inches. One window started leaking indoors so we must get that fixed. We had other couples over, we celebrated NYs at 1030 and called it an evening it was fun.

We got 1.5 inches which doesn’t sound like a lot, but there’s a lot of local flooding. The street into my neighborhood is barricaded due to how deep the water is. Drainage ditches which are usually dry have crested banks. Police are out trying to make sure certain areas are avoided due to the depth of water. Drainage canal on right is level with sidewalk. Left is the street. Never seen anything like it.

I'm between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. We aren't in any danger but the town just east of us has some evacuation orders with water going into houses. We've gotten so much rain during the week and this week we're supposed to get more.

Happy New Year! I got about 8 alerts yesterday. My son said he passed 4 wrecks going home and 2 going to work and there was a road closure on our want to a birthday/New Year's party. There were also a couple of local flooded parking lots posted on Facebook, too.

I live in East Contra Costa County. Lots of local flooding out here on the farms and farm roads!

East Bay here. We have a seasonal creek on our property and it was raging yesterday. Drainage problem from a neighbor compounded things so eventually when the storms pass we will have a big mud clean up to do. But I got lots of exercise shoveling yesterday and the situation still pales in comparison to the east coast blizzards.

Here in Sacramento the wind blew so hard it sounded like a train coming through the house. We have about 3 inches of water standing in the back yard. But no loss of power or cable.

there were a lot of traffic hazards around us (closed roads, landslides, down trees) but we just stayed home and watched it rain. water in our basement, (a little bit) but not surprising. over 5.5 inches of rain..
this morning it is clear.. but the storm door is open and only tuesday is supposed to be nice next week.

We hunkered down inside and even our dog didn't want to go out! We are throwing our Mom a surprise 80th birthday party on Saturday and I've got fingers crossed it won't be as bad as the weather folks are predicting.

Not quite Bay Area, but Northern CA. We had a lot of downed trees in our town, and parts of the town were without electricity. My friend had a tree go through the roof and into her son's room, all are fine. Lots of flooding in the new subdivisions. Usually our street floods at the end, if we get super heavy rainfall but that didn't happen. I am going to spend some time today picking up my backyard, and then wait for the rain tomorrow. I am glad to hunker down at home.

A friend up in Belmont sent a video of his apartment complex. There is a backhoe floating in the parking lot. They suggested his complex evacuate, but he and most others on the third floor stayed. He did move his car to higher ground.

Very sad to see hwy 9 collapsed just south of Felton. Felton is one of our favorite places to visit. I'm guessing that will take awhile to fix.

We're flying into Sacramento on Thursday and I need to move my daughter into her dorm on Friday. Current forecast is... rain. Then more rain. Then some rain. Then a chance of rain.
I'm really happy about the implications of this for the drought; when we were there in September it was heartbreaking to see everything so dead and dry, the rice fields abandoned, etc. But dd & I are doing this dorm move in on our own and it's about a 1/4 mile walk between the closest parking lot and her dorm. I don't even own a raincoat, lol!

pantsonfire, we had pretty heavy rain all day yesterday. Up until then it's been sort of a heavy drizzle, the kind that is good for our plants, but not so great for the filling of reservoirs.

Sarah*H, I wonder if they have carts available to help haul stuff to the dorms. That sounds like a very no fun task.

I'm western Calaveras County. We have had our local lake increase by 55' in depth since November 1 with 36 of those feet in the last week! I'm loving it so much because it's our drinking water and our summer recreation water. We were sitting at 14% capacity on Nov.1, now we're at 38%!
Flooding has been happening around me on the low lying roads and along creeks, but we live at the top of a hill so we've been spared. My kids went to the pond that formed at the vacant lot next door yesterday with pool floats and were rafting around on it. The homes along the golf course had some water in them because the local creek floods when we get massive amounts of rain.
Today? Sunny skies and it's all starting to dry out. My kids and the neighborhood kids were all out playing in the pond again with the pool floats in bathing suits. They ended up at one of the houses playing in their hot tub by the end of the day. LOL.
We're getting ready for round 2 of the wet stuff this week.

Dammit, now I just checked again, and it says 30% chance of rain on Friday. Whatever. Ignore me.

We have had a little bit of everything except sunshine and snow today. Gray overcast, drizzle, showers, wind, downpours, etc., on repeat. The really fun part was dodging waterlogged tumbleweed stopped on the freeway during a downpour. At one point, LEOs were using traffic breaks to slow drivers down. Thankfully, it looks like we get a 24 hour dry off before doing it again.

From Yahoo…
“As it continues to clean up from a thorough drenching over New Year’s weekend, San Francisco is bracing for an even bigger storm that meteorologists warn could be catastrophic.
The National Weather Service’s Bay Area office issued a frank and dire warning to citizens in a statement, saying the storm, which is currently forecast to begin peaking Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, could bring about flooding and the loss of life.
"To put it simply, this will likely be one of the most impactful systems on a widespread scale that this meteorologist has seen in a long while," the warning read. "The impacts will include widespread flooding, roads washing out, hillside collapsing, trees down (potentially full groves), widespread power outages, immediate disruption to commerce, and the worst of all, likely loss of human life. This is truly a brutal system that we are looking at and needs to be taken seriously."
A flood watch has been issued for the entire Bay Area from 4 a.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday, with some areas expected to get up to 10 inches of rain. Wind gusts are expected to hit 50 mph, equivalent to a moderate tropical storm. Those are expected to peak between Wednesday afternoon and midnight.
The storms come after downtown San Francisco saw 5.46 inches of rain on New Year’s Eve, the second-wettest day the city has ever seen.
Despite those rains and the ones expected this week, however, the state will remain in a drought, following three of the driest years on record.
