What is something you’ve implemented in your life that takes 2 minutes or less but has had a significant impact?
I used to have a huge pile of stuff on my bathroom counter. My idea was it can sit there if I use it everyday. About a year ago I started by doing a deep clean/purge of my bathroom and finding a place for the stuff I use everyday. Now I take one or two minutes every day putting everything away and it’s off the counter. My clean counter makes me so happy and I find it hard to believe it took me so many years to change my ways!

Making my bed. I haven’t been a consistent bed maker my whole life. Last year I decided to change that, and, it has made my days so much better. Probably takes more than 2 minutes, but, I can do two minutes in a pinch. Then I pray, and start my day! It has been such a positive habit for me.

Setting my clothes for the next day (including workout clothes) the night before. Seems like it wouldn't make a difference, but it does for me - just taking a little extra friction out of my morning routine makes everything go smoother. I get up at 5 to workout and if everything's ready for me, it's easy to stay on auto-pilot, stay on schedule and get my workout done. If little things - like not being able to find my grip socks in the dark - get in my way, I'm more likely to bail on my workout.

Funny I agree with both your things - clearing off bathroom counter. And always making my bed right away. I’ll add drinking tea with collagen and a splash of oat milk every afternoon.

Bathroom counter here too - I didn't have a pile of stuff, but had lots of organizer things on my counter. Our master bath is pretty small, so although it was organized, it was still visual clutter.
Maybe 18 months ago, I decided to get organizers for all cabinets, and now everything that was on the counter is in the cabinets. My daily use skincare, my core makeup, and my daily hair products are all each in a separate, organized bin that live under the counter. I just pull each one out as I need it, and then put it back. There are other organizers that stay in-place in the cabinets that have less frequently used stuff, my travel stuff, back stock, etc. The counters are now clear except hand soap and it's so much more calming in there and it's not inconvenient at all (I was convinced it would be, which is why it took me forever to do anything about it).

It’s so much easier to wipe the counter down too. Now my DH has so many things on his sink and he leaves his cabinet open at all times and it’s a hot mess. I’m constantly closing the door so I don’t have to look at it. I was hoping he’d learn from my example but so far…no.

I have a general rule of not leaving a room without picking something up if it is not where it belongs. My whole house always looks tidy (no kids anymore). It doesn't take me two minutes, but maybe if I added up the time it is about that.
We used to have long skinny closets. Now that I have a walk in closet, I see my dirty laundry more often. Whenever a basket is full, it goes downstairs no matter what. If I walk past the laundry room, I'll see the full basket and toss it in. Sometimes for me it is just seeing something that is the motivator.

Emptying the dishwasher. It really doesn’t take more than 2 minutes and then you don’t have dirty dishes piled on the counter (well, except for my husband’s dish 😖). I run the dishwasher at night and empty while making coffee. It’s really pretty simple and painless.

Ha, I just did my master bath counter too. I realized that when I went into the guest/Ds bathroom, it's very tidy looking because nothing but the hand soap is on the counter, and it made me happy. Took me awhile to figure out why that bathroom made me happy. The stuff on my counter was organized, but the visual clutter of anything but hand soap on the counter was too much. I purged thru some stuff, a bit of organization, and boom clear counter and clear mind.
I've tried in the past to make my bed regularly, but I just don't care. 😂 I recently heard the term Scandinavian Bed, which turns out to be having separate duvets. Shortly after Dh and I married 29 years ago, we went to Germany and everywhere we stayed had separate duvets. Dh and I were in heaven! 😇 He is one of those that hangs on to the blankets, so when he turned he took the covers with him, and I would be left cold. When we got home we promptly bought 2 twin sized duvets, and there are no more cover wars! That said, this system doesn't really make for a nicely made bed. We just kind of straighten out individual duvets and call it good.
I do make my bed if I'm at my mom's house because I'm embarrassed when I go in there and see my mom came in and made my bed. 😁

Things I do every night, as part of my evening chores: Overall I spend maybe 10-20 minutes doing evening chores, depending how much there is to do. Each chore takes a couple minutes.
Wiping counters off, putting things away. Bathroom and kitchen. Sweep kitchen floor. Wash any dishes in the sink. Usually it's just a plate, mug, utensils, etc...
Go over my to do lists. I use index cards, one for each day. If something that is less of a priority doesn't get crossed off that days list, then I move it to the next day list. I always have an index card grocery list, sitting on my table.
Straightening up my purse. Removing any receipts. Counting cash, to see what I have. Putting in some cash if needed.
Return any pending correspondence. Text. Email.

I clean the shower when I'm in it. I also always squeegee the doors. Dh doesn't though, so the doors still get spotty. 😣
I got a robot mop and run it in the kitchen every night before I go to bed. That means I have to sweep and pick up in there beforehand. Takes me maybe 2 minutes and cuts down on how often I have to mop by hand.
I also lay out my clothes at night. I like to sleep as long as possible in the mornings. 🤣

Starting a couple years ago, dirty dishes aren’t left in the sink. If we eat something, afterwards dishes/silverware are rinsed if needed and immediately put in the dishwasher. I got tired loading the dishwasher being an actual chore.
And nothing is on the floor of my clothes closet any more, so the [rare] vacuuming takes seconds and dust/cat bunnies don’t get on anything.

I've been making my bed for my entire life and it takes so little time but makes me happy. I can't get into an unmade bed unless I'm sick.

I have a general rule of not leaving a room without picking something up if it is not where it belongs. My whole house always looks tidy (no kids anymore). It doesn't take me two minutes, but maybe if I added up the time it is about that. I am like this as well, not sure why because it wasn’t how I was raised. And every time I get out of the car I take out any trash, if I’m home I take out everything that doesn’t belong. Every single time, unless I have to pee! I just naturally pick it up as I go and it makes life so much easier. It’s so obvious around here when I’ve been very depressed and not doing this. Using little minutes makes the biggest difference in my life. Waiting for a pot to boil? Food in the microwave?Your face mask? Or for everyone else to be ready to walk out the door? Wipe down the countertops, unload the dishwasher, straighten the entry closet. On the phone? Look around for something to pick up or go through a drawer. Pumping gas? Clean off the windshield, organize the back of the car, dust the interior. I keep cleaning supplies in the car for just this reason. I often dust the dashboard or wipe things down at a red light. (And I make sure to pay attention so no one has to wait on me). Using all of those little minutes during the day instead of wasting them can really make a big impact on your home. For a while I have been trying to develop the habit of doing/fixing things right when they occur because I’ve been going through all of these ‘little projects’ for a while and kicking myself that I didn’t just take care of it then! Most of them are less than 5 minutes! One habit I have that has made a difference for me is incorporating a washcloth into my am/pm hygiene routines. I get out a fresh washcloth each time, and use it for my fingertips when I do all of my face potions and lotions. Then when I’m done with everything I use the cloth to clean the mirror and wipe down the countertop and sink. So my bathroom is almost always clean! (I try and make sure I do mine after DH.)

Every time I use the bathroom, I drink a cup of water. Made it effortless to get the recommended amount. Bonuses are that my skin looks better, & I never get UTIs anymore.

Arm exercises while I'm cleaning my teeth twice a day. It takes exactly 2 minutes, and keeps the nerve scarring from my PICC line from stiffening up and giving me pain. I remember it as soon as I pick up the toothbrush, and rarely miss now.

If I’m sitting in the living room watching tv, I will do exercises during the commercials. Not always, but if I’m watching regular tv where there are commercials. I try do some each day. I can walk a straight line from one end of my house to the other. I like to do crossovers or grapevines. 3 or 4 minutes at a time is just about right.

Taking two minutes to set the dishwasher to run overnight so it is ready to empty in the morning has been fantastic. I empty the dishwasher while the coffee brews and I’m all set for the day. No dishes piling up on the counter.
My son goes to speech therapy once a week and his appointment is early in the morning. So the night before I set out both of our clothes and I pack his bag. Takes less than five minutes but does a world of difference the next day.

I really like the " don't put it down, put it away" mindset and have been trying to focus on that. That ingredient you didn't use? Don't set it on the counter put it up... That receipt? Don't lay it down throw it away(or put it where you keep receipts... tube of toothpaste? Don't just lay it by sink, put it up.. etc..
Hard ti do after a long day sometimes, but worth it in the end.

"Hands always full"
I learned that from Melissa Maker of YT Clean My Space. Once she mentioned that she used to work as a waitress and her boss always told them "hands always full", meaning they should be carrying something out to the dinning area (food) AND when they came back to the kitchen (empty dishes). It totally works for not letting any area become cluttered like they quickly do when stuff gets pulled out for whatever you or anyone else is doing. I do that for any area of the house.

I feel like much of my day is one little two-minute habit after another. String enough of those small actions together and you keep a fairly clean and organized house with what feels like not much effort.
Some of my tenets are make the bed every morning, get fully dressed every day, wipe down the counter when you use it, do each load of laundry start to finish rather than having piles to fold or put away, keep a clean sink, and so so forth. It’s so much easier to clean a clean house.

Taking two minutes to set the dishwasher to run overnight so it is ready to empty in the morning has been fantastic. I don't recommend this as we had a Bosch dishwasher catch fire from a faulty motherboard in a rental property. The tenants usually had it start overnight but for some reason they did it in the afternoon. It could have been catastrophic for them. As it was it cost thousands in damage to our house.

Everything he wears goes in the load: scrubs, undershirt, compression socks and underwear. When we hang it we put the underwear & undershirt over the hanger and the socks in a pocket. That way, in his zombie like state, he only has to grab one hanger and shuffle over to the bed to get dressed.

Making sure my kitchen sink is empty when I go to bed makes such a big difference in my morning. Also setting out my workout clothes so I can roll out of bed, and put my workout clothes on without digging and searching for what to wear.

Before bed I empty the dishwasher so there's nothing in the way in the morning. Shifting to empty in the evening instead of the morning saves me 2 min in the morning which is a busier time. Also before bed I get my makeup/hair routine items out and ready. Then in the morning I just use them and put them away. I feel like between these two things at night I gained 5 min every morning. Makes the mornings a little less hectic before work.

I have a 5 minute rule. If something takes less than 5 minutes, I do it right away.
I fold or hang items right out of the dryer and put them away immediately. Sheets get washed and placed back on the bed as soon as they are dry. I only fold sheets when I switch between summer/winter sheets.
I go through the mail as soon as I bring it in. I open the bills and toss the envelopes and any junk mail in the recycling. Bills go on my desk where I pay them the next time I am at my desk, usually every morning with my first cup of coffee.
I clean as I go when I cook. I wipe up spills and place items in the dishwasher as soon as I am done with them. I empty the dishwasher as soon I can after it runs.
Dusting is my personal nemesis! I hate to dust.
