Today is so confusing. It is not Jan 1st, yet it is still a βholidayβ for many. Banks and post office closed, stores and restaurants all open. Rose Parade/Bowl game today instead of yesterday. I feel so out of sync. π€£

Me too. Technically Jan 1st I am supposed to start eating better and clearing out all the sugar that I have been stuffing my face with. However, I got another day before I have to start!ππ All the sweet junk is gone except for a few last bites so my timing is good.

It's a bank holiday in the UK. Scotland have tomorrow off as well but we don't in England. I never have any trouble remembering our bank holidays here!

My company was closed the last two weeks of the year but we are back at work today. I didnβt even realize it was a holiday until DS told me - yesterday! - that he doesnβt go back to school until tomorrow π€£

So true! I was trying to pay bills all morning calling Dr/dentist offices and wondering why they werenβt picking up.

It was a public holiday here too. We had these days off: Monday 26th Dec - Boxing Day Tuesday 27th Dec - Christmas holiday Monday 3rd Jan - New Year holiday And like RedSquirrelUK said, I have no problem remembering all our public holidays! I have to go back to work today (Tuesday) for the first time since 23rd December. Boo! I thought that ten days off, including weekends, was going to be sufficient, but it only felt like a few days!

Professional Football is on Sunday. Bowl games and the Rose Bowl Parade are today. I was very concerned yesterday when I couldn't find the parade!

I agree itβs a bit confusing. Itβs a holiday for my work, though I was a little confused this morning if it actually wasβ¦and I logged onto my laptop to check mail for the heck of itβ¦
All my college kids start classes next Monday.

DH is off. Post office is closed. DH made breakfast for us. It's like another Sunday here.
Tomorrow I'm going to thrown off. It'll be Tuesday but it'll feel like Monday. So I have to remember to put the trash out tonight, not tomorrow and meal plan for the grocery store because the weekly trip is tomorrow.

Yes, today was second Sunday. Lol. My husband was home and we had a delightful day getting home projects done. Wish we had a third Sunday tomorrow!

When a holiday{Federal) falls on Saturday, Friday is the official holiday. When a holiday falls on Sunday, Monday is the official holiday. Because with government and corporate businesses etc normally people are off on Saturday and Sunday. Although that may have also been brought a out from Unions...

The schedule for the holidays has been great this year. I had to run to the grocery store today and I was pleasantly surprised at how many businesses were closed. Really the only things open were chain stores and fast food.

I worked today and didn't realize it was a legal holiday until I was driving to work. The roads were empty, like zombie apocalypse empty. So weird but I loved it! It WAS a bummer not to be able to see the Rose Parade yesterday though. I missed it because of work.

In Germany where we live, public holidays fall when they fall, no 'extra' days off. So, if we had been home over Christmas/New Year, we'd have only had Dec 26 as a day off, as Christmas day and New Year's Day fell on Sundays. BUT - this year we are in Australia, where they do the extra days, so yesterday was a public holiday. There were a lot of shops here (Canberra) shut on Sunday, but yesterday most places were open. Best for us is that nearly all parking here is free on weekends and public holidays, so we were saved that cost at the museum!

The 26th was a holiday, too, if you didn't notice. Federal holidays falling on Sundays are observed on the Monday.
In 2022, Independence Day was a Sunday so the holiday was "observed" on the 5th.

Well, I drove to the nearest town yesterday, went to pay for parking...had to text my husband to ask if it was a bank holiday. Wasn't 100% sure and didn't want to come back to a ticket!

Shame, the extra days are a lovely bonus.

Iβve got to go back to work today after being off for 10 days. I can tell you right now it was not long enough and I need a couple more days to face the 600 emails in my email box at work.

My husband and I had a conversation this morning about the weird way the holidays fell this year. He worked a few partial days last week but said he still felt like heβd had a long week off - which is great for a workaholic like him.
Me⦠I always have to stop and think, now what day is it today? Lol.
