Hi everyone! I am going to meet my mum at Denny's for breakfast in a little while so I'm posting early! Today I need to do laundry and complete some online safety training courses for work ... good times! My mum is coming over later this afternoon so that we can see about booking her a trip to Las Vegas ... I don't think she is healthy enough to go but she is stubborn We will then go to the local pub for dinner ... yay, no cooking for me! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I actually got High School credits for "Typing" class! That's how old I am! Did any of you take "Typing" in school? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a relaxing Sunday everybody!

I took typing in high school leannec. My very first year of college at the student welcome address (1993) they were talking about how state of the art the technology was that they had email for everyone. I didn't use it for months because they said it worked through the phone lines and I was scared to get a long distance bill. Lol. I didn't end up cooking that steak last night. I ended up sending Jeremy to the store with instructions to buy a chocolate cake. I had cake and wine for dinner last night. So tonight will be the steaks. I just showered so I need to go dry my hair. I've been pulling out all my scrapbook stuff onto the dining room table because that is my plan for today.

Happy Sunday everyone. leannec - I took typing in Josh school. It was a compulsory subject in year 9 for us. Girls school, 1970s. We all needed to be prepared to be good little secretaries! Once computers became a thing, especially once the school I was teaching at went digital for lesson planning and reports, I was glad I had at least basic keyboarding skills. We are continuing with our lazy weekend today. DH walked up to the bakery early to buy croissants for breakfast, and then we had a video call with our sons and grand babies. Lucia was so engaged today - it is the first time she has seems to ‘get’ that there are real people on the screen and she was smiling and giggling and reaching out as though she was trying to touch us! Sophia was just giggly and silly! We ended up with DS and Lucia on his phone and Sophia on her mum’s phone, walking around the house showing us things. I went out for a walk just after lunch and was glad I did, when just 20 minutes after i got back home it started to snow. It’s not heavy, but it is steady and rather wet. We are expecting a very cold week ahead, but it is supposed to be sunny and dry, not snowy. Dinner tonight is going to be schnitzels. Not sure what we are having as sides, DH is in charge of weekend dinners.

Is your mum going on her own, leannec? Your pub plans sound great....no cooking, no dishes! I did not take typing in hs. It was offered, but if you were planning college, you had to take foreign language. I don't regret taking French, but considering I type every day but I am only able to manage asking where the restroom is, ordering off a simple menu, answering a couple jeopardy questions, and saying "I'm sorry I sat on your cat", I would have been better off with the typing. I never learned the right way...I am pretty fast, but I still have to look. I took a computer class in college but it was dos based and we made banners with a dot matrix printer...another important life skill. 🤪 We are still laying around this morning. We may try a new restaurant that just opened for brunch/lunch. I was so beat after wrestling (hadn't slept well) that we didn't do much after...a nap, made tacos for dinner, fell asleep in front of the TV. We have a couple of errands today, but nothing much. Thinking about either manicotti or chili cheese polish with fries for dinner. Anyone doing anything fun today?

tmarschall at least French was practical. I took 3 years of latin. Catholic school too. The only Latin I remember is how to pray the Our Father and Hail Mary.

I took typing in 8th grade which I think was required in Hawaii. DS took keyboarding in kindergarten in 1991. Times change! It was so weird last night: I woke up to go to the bathroom and it was 3:33. Next time I woke up it was 4:44! Dinner will be the Jalapeno Popper Chicken I didn't make the other night.

I am in the Seattle AirPort and my flight home is in 6 hours.
Dinner tonight will be leftovers in the freezer like lasagna. I got no sleep on the plane. It wasn’t fun.
We are getting Dexter I think around 3 or so. I am so excited to see him. I am not sure how I am going to be able to walk him. My whole body is giving out at this point.

If there was a ferry yes but I don’t think the Clipper runs in February. I am 5 hrs away from Tsawwassen ferry terminal and a busy border crossing so I don’t save any time. Plus I would have to rent a car. We are stuck. The duty free store looks promising though.

I took typing in seventh grade and again my senior year of high school. The first time it was required and in hs it was an elective for college prep students. My typing classes served me well but also prevented me from graduating hs with honors 😕
We have a fridge full of food…beef stew, stuffed peppers, pork carnitas and ds is making corn chowder. Hopefully everyone will find something they will enjoy for dinner!

leannec , does your mom go to the shows? We're planning a trip to Vegas in a month or two. We want to see Penn and Teller's new show and will see a Cirque show, too. My favorite Vegas show is The Blue Man Group. It's fantastic. sueg , I think that you and I are about the same age. I had to take typing in 9th grade, too. Remember when electric typewriters were invented and we thought they were so state-of-the-art? Last night dh's phone kept ringing, but he's not on call until Monday. So, we kept getting awakened. Our landline rang at 2am. I was having wild dreams in btwn. I had a baby girl. OK, I'm turning 60. I don't think so!!!!! Today I have to pack my luggage and get it ready to go tmw. I hope it meets me next week. I'm making dh air fryer chicken enchiladas for dinner. He loved them last time. Hi stormsts . After this marathon work I do hope you'll take time off to relax and play. jeremysgirl , have fun scrapping today. tmarschall , this made me LOL, "I don't regret taking French, but considering I type every day but I am only able to manage asking where the restroom is, ordering off a simple menu, answering a couple jeopardy questions, and saying "I'm sorry I sat on your cat".
Delta Dawn, that's a long layover. I, too wish you could just hop on the ferry.

I took typing voluntarily in summer school, and really used it for most of my life in college, and later on as a legal secretary/editorial assistant/writer/copy editor/volunteer newsletter editor and probably a few more things I’m not thinking of. In the pre-computer days, I owned an IBM Correcting Selectric typewriter, and boy, I loved that thing. jeremysgirl, my mom made me take two years of Latin in high school. That turned out to be the single most useful thing I ever studied, at least until I got into the history and structure of the English language in college. Knowing some Latin helps you understand English better. Since my sister and brother are leaving for their month-long trip to India this week, we’re having a family dinner at an old-style Italian dinner house. (I look forward to hearing the stories about how they damn near killed each other on this trip, assuming both return in one piece.)

As a former English teacher, English is so freaking complicated with its inconsistent rules and numerous exceptions. I think studying of other languages, even if you don't speak them (regularly or at all) can really help with English too.
We tried the new place. Nothing special for breakfast but their lunch and dinner menu looked way better so I'd be willing to try it again. The pancakes were better than the rest. 🥞

DH and I just got home from grocery shopping. This morning he went through all his clothes and we ended up taking 4 large garbage bags to Goodwill for donation.
My mom is coming over for a quick visit. I haven’t seen her since I’ve been sick so she will have lots of stories to tell me, I’m sure.
I took typing all four years of high school and I loved it. It was one of the best things I learned in high school. I can still type very fast, use both hands on the keyboard and I don’t look at the keys. DH’s hunting and pecking with one finger drives my crazy.
Supper tonight is chicken and caesar salad.

I do agree the Latin helped with English grammar. I honestly don't ever remember learning the names of tenses and such in English classes. But it's not conversational at all. And there was a very heavy focus on Catholic church Latin in my highschool.

I am very angry at the universe. My old boss who I adored and he was a volunteer at the backpack program I volunteer at had MAID (medical assistance in dying) today. He had Alzheimer’s and he was still very functional. He knew lots of people’s names still and he got a bit exuberant but omg today was his planned death. Fuck the universe because he was a great guy. This was his decision but now dementia has stolen someone else I really cared about.

JoP ...I just read yesterday's thread, and I'm so sorry about your grief! (( hugs )) I took typing in 10th grade and didn't do well. But I took 3 years of French, which I loved. I went to a very "cool", progressive school that also offered Russian. We always said only the REALLY smart kids took Russian, Latin, or German. at least French was practical. I took 3 years of latin Oh wow, I always thought knowing Latin would be awesome, since it's the basis for many of our English words, or am I wrong? But I know for sure that many medical terms come from Latin, which would have been helpful for me in learning alllll those medical terms. Ugh, ESPECIALLY the muscles---we had to learn them all, and (I think) they're ALL Latin. (example---the side of your thigh ---- vastus lateralis--- Nope, we could NOT say "side of thigh!" on tests! asking where the restroom is, ordering off a simple menu, answering a couple jeopardy questions, and saying " I'm sorry I sat on your cat" LOL! I still remember a few sentences: Ou est Guillame (where is William? ) Il est à la bibliothèque (he's at the library). My best friend and I loved French class sooo much, we joined the French Club. Gah, I wish I had piks and could remember all the "French" activities we did. The ONE fun event I remember was going to have crepes at a chain "French" restaurant. Ohh....sooo authentique ( NOT! ) It was so weird last night: I woke up to go to the bathroom and it was 3:33. Next time I woke up it was 4:44! Oooh, that sounds like a scary movie I watched recently where the lady kept waking up at 3:33 every. single. night. I hope what ended up happening to her doesn't happen to youuuu!

I hadn't read the whole thread before I commented on the whole English/ Latin thAng so now I see y'all already did. Also, going back to yesterday's thread---I LOVE shopping in actual stores and I MISS it !!!!!!!!!!!! But, online is pretty fun, too. I'm sure DH is a littttle tired of me venting about how I miss going to stores and just looking at stuff leisurely!
