We recently were cleaning out and came across the box that my preserved wedding gown is in. After the wedding we had it cleaned and sealed up I believe (haven't opened it up to remember how it was done.) Anyway it's been over 30 years.
I'm not quite sure what to do with it at this point. My kids aren't likely to wear it. After saving it for all these years it feels funny to get rid of it entirely. Is there something that can be turned into at this point? Something sentimental?
What did you end up doing with your wedding gown?

Christening gowns for your grandkids.
Donate to a theater group.
There are groups that make gowns for deceased infants.

Mine is boxed up at my mom's house, I think. It was hers first. I doubt my DD would wear it, though it is lovely and timeless. I'm not quite ready to chop it up into something else, though.

I’m pretty sure I dropped mine off to be preserved and forgot to pick it back up.

If it’s not in the way, why not just hang onto it until your kids get married? They might change their mind when the time comes, and it’s possible the dress could be altered to make it more contemporary, especially if it is in good condition. My SIL would have worn her mom’s 1960’s vintage dress for her wedding but it wasn’t cleaned or stored properly, plus both parents were chain smokers so it was horribly yellowed from that too. It surprised me that SIL even considered it. I used MIL’s veil headpiece after I cleaned it and replaced the tulle. You just never know.
ETA: As for mine, DD has already told me she loved it and will probably wear it if it fits when the time comes.

I donated mine to the theater department of the local high school.

I've seen brides who might not want to wear their mother's gowns for the wedding, choose to have them altered into something pretty for the rehearsal dinner...usually shorter and simpler, but saving some of the details.

Family had great grandmother’s dress made into pew bows which multiple generations used at their weddings which I think is lovely and practical.
I wore MIL gown which she promptly took back so I have no idea what happened to it 29 years ago lol.

I donated it to Angel Gowns. They turn wedding dresses into gowns for babies who didn't survive before or during birth. They have chapters all over the country.

I paid to have mine boxed. I took it out when dd was getting ready for her wedding. It had yellowed. 😩 I made her a garter belt to wear from the big butt bow. It was 1993. 🤷🏻♀️

Ha. My inlaws put mine in their cedar closet, but that was like five houses ago; I assume it is long gone by now!

My niece wore it for her wedding then my sister asked if a friend's daughter could wear it for her wedding. I was thrilled that 3 people got to wear my beautiful wedding dress. I assume someone has it somewhere. I only have a DS so it didn't matter that I never got it back.

I had mine preserved in this monstrosity of a box that's up in my attic somewhere. My dd recently married, and I didn't bother to hunt it down. It's quite dated in style and made of that very shiny satin. I'll probably just leave it up there indefinitely.
I have dd's dress here, and I should probably take it to be preserved so that it can stay in her own attic for decades until she decides what to do with it.

I donated my gown from my first wedding and later that year, my daughter got engaged and asked about it. She is smaller than I was and it would have fit or could have been remade into a rehearsal dinner dress.
I would say keep it until your kids get married if you've kept it this long.

I have the dress from my parents' wedding. It has yellowed, but my friends have enjoyed "discovering" it.

I’m pretty sure I dropped mine off to be preserved and forgot to pick it back up. I never even dropped mine off. It's in a rubbermaid tote in the basement. Also, rubbermaid totes are not watertight. 🤷🏼♀️

When I looked into Angel Gowns some years ago, they weren’t taking any further donations saying they had been swamped with them. The timing might have coincided with some big national story about them.
I considered having my 1985 gown made into four ring bearer’s pillows for each of my four boys to use when they got married, but the thought was as far as it got. Seeing as how their dad and I were divorced, I wondered if it would make it awkward.
Ultimately, I unceremoniously added it to a pile of donations and off to the thrift store it went.
For my second wedding in 2011, I chose a lacy sheath dress from Ann Taylor. It still hangs in my closet although it’s a smaller size than I currently wear.

Years ago, I donated mine locally to a program that made them into the gowns for deceased newborns. I'm not sure if it was Angel Gowns or something similar done locally (by locally, I mean across the river in Indiana). Since Angel Gowns has a waitlist, another suggestion is to search locally.

My dress did not age well style-wise. When I was preparing to move, I tossed it in the trash. It was 42 years old and trust me, no one wanted it.

I took my dress and cut out a lot of the lace that can be used somehow.. The lace is in my cedar chest. I don't have any regrets. And probably no one will use the lace.. LOL
Edited to add.. I couldn't find anyone to take it for deceased babies organizations.. none of them were taking gowns at the time.

I sent mine to a charity that sold wedding dresses at very reasonable rates and donated the proceeds to breast cancer research.

I'm having my dress made into a robe for my daughter to wear while getting ready for her wedding, 4 months and 2 days!

Mine is hanging in my closet. It's 80's style and I wouldn't want my daughter to wear it. I would love for her to try it on so I can remember that I used to be small like her!

Mine is long gone because I didn't have a big formal gown but I still have my mother's from 1962. It's beautiful but so far NONE of the girls in the family can fit into it. She had a 26 inch waist for crying out loud. Five foot 8 with a 26 inch waist. She was a brick, da na na na, housee...
It's lovely though so I keep it. <fixed typos>

I loved my wedding dress. It was beautiful and simple. I had it boxed up but the box was huge and I finally just gave it away.

this reminds me of a TikTok I just saw recently, a girl was filming her daughter take out her professionally dry cleaned and packed wedding dress from the 80's and when she opened the box it was empty. Empty! Full of tissue and that's it! The storage box didn't have a window on it and she never thought to open it up to make sure it would be there, I mean, who would?
They were filming in anticipation of seeing her mom pull out the dress and instead they got the shock of their lives. In the video she starts pulling up layer after crunched up layer of tissue paper and then realizes in horror her dress was never packed in there! The place she had it cleaned and stored was no longer in business but it went viral with a bunch of women freaking out and opening their own gown boxes just to make sure theirs was safe.
