We use Uber Eats 2-3x per week because I sit in traffic 2 hrs a day 4 days a week and am not willing to do it again to get food. I waste so much of my life just driving or sitting in traffic.
So if it's from anyplace greater than 1 mile from my house, someone else is bringing it. I don't much like going out to eat, it takes too long and I'd rather be on my couch catching up with my shows.

I eat out a lot. I see the take out orders bagged and/or boxed sitting on the counter for 5 to 30 minutes waiting for the delivery person. Then the order(s) sit in the car for 5 to 20 minutes to be delivered. By the time it gets to the table, it's a leftover that needs to be zapped. For the money spent you could go to a nicer restaurant. It's bad enough to sit in the restaurant and see your order sitting under the heat lamp while the wait person is chatting with another customer. Safeway has frozen dinners for $5, takes less than 10 minutes to prepare. If I could just stay away from the bakery section and the candy aisle, I could maybe lose a little weight.

I'm another pea that's too rural for delivery services. I totally get the appeal and I'm glad I live too far away because it would be really tempting to do during certain times of the year when I'm super busy. I knew there were extra fees but I'm shocked they added up to a $32 additional cost!

I used to use Uber eats occasionally. Lately I’ve been using it more.
The only reason I order is because I get coupons from Uber Eats all the time. For some reason I continuously have free delivery and 40 percent off. Basically, I’m paying the dine in price.
I most likely wouldn’t order at without the incentives.

I'm cheap. Even if I really didn't want to go pick up the food, I would rather than paying $32.00 more. But, I know A LOT of people use doordash because I see them at just about every restaurant I go to. Count me in as cheap too. I've never ordered from GrubHub or Doordash because I will not pay out the nose for mediocre delivery service.

I can never bring myself to pay it. I can get my lazy ass in my car and go get it for $32 more. I’m not THAT tired.
And it’s not the tipping, I’ve always tipped for takeout at sit down restaurants but since the pandemic I’ve tipped as if I stayed to eat.

I really only use Grub Hub because we get it free through Amazon. If/When that goes away, I won't use it anymore. My dh always says that he will go pick it up. We use their website to see the menus and then he calls them directly to order.
Our favorite sushi place uses these services but they have their own employees deliver it.
Last week I ordered cookies from Insomnia Cookies for my son at college. I ordered through their app, not one of the deliver services. I got a notification that it was delivered. NOPE. My son was waiting for them in the lobby of his apartment building. I called them immediately and they refunded me my entire order and I told them I didn't need that but I wanted the cookies redelivered.
The said they can't do anything about these services if they steal the order. I told them I didn't use one of them, I used their app. They said if their drivers aren't available, they will outsource it to a delivery service. I said "that's nice but I didn't use them so you really need to send them again".
They called me as soon as the driver took possession of the cookies. I had my son stand outside of the building and I tracked them on their app. It did show up. They did refund me. They also told me that this happens A LOT. Well, no duh, college students delivering cookies!
I've never had an issue with Grub Hub drivers. My orders have always shown up and been correct. We have had more issues with directly ordering from the restaurant and my dh picking it up. Items missing or the wrong thing even though the receipt was correct. That is more of an issue with the restaurant.

I always wonder when I see the shelves full of bags if people just take them.
When I do carry out from our favorite taco place no one checks if I’m the right owner.

My sis uses Door Dash/Grub Hub practically daily. Personally, I have never used them. I guess for me, it is just easy to run out and pick it up. The only thing I have delivered is pizza and that is maybe 2-3 times a year, even then I usually just go pick it up.

My husband is Door Dash gold star customer (if such titles existed😉), but he’s on a diet and cooking his own food. I can’t tell you how much we are saving! I hope he’s kicked his Door Dash habit. I picked up a sandwich the other day-just a regular sub and it was $12.99. When did a sub cost more than $10. Clearly I don’t buy them often. I watch a girl on TT (Elyse I think is her name) and she just posted a video where she said she paid $19 for a footlong at subway (it may have been for 2 subs, I cannot remember) and she was like $19 for subway? And then showed how to make her own - and I was shocked bc I thought subway's big deal is the $5 footlong! I guess that's gone?

I wanted to send her a treat, but with the Superbowl plus valentine's day, I was thinking maybe another time...

We have a guy here locally that started up his own delivery service to "combat" all of the fees. He stays relatively busy and there's never been an issue with his deliveries, and if there is, he takes care of it ASAP. He charges a flat fee according to where you live (we have several smaller towns around here that he goes to but its a bit more $). I am pretty much done with DD as long as we can get on his list, it's worth the wait if he is busy just to save all the $$ that DD hides in there.

Speaking of TT there is a popular TTer "bikedasher" who rides his bike and delivers in LA. He has a camera on his helmet and you see him speeding around town picking up, calculating how long the job will earn him. Sometimes in between runs he will ask a homeless person what they want to eat and go get them breakfast. I spent one afternoon once getting sucked in on his videos lol. The thing I kept marveling at was how much money he made on each run, and WHO are these people spending so much money getting everything delivered? Offices with Starbucks runs, people working in one fast food joint having him deliver them a Boba coffee while they likely made minimum wage lol. The guy keeps busy though. His TikTok account is BikeDasher. <ed to add his name> I'm in the cheap camp too, I just can't pay those fees, I'd rather cook.

As a single person, it's usually not worth it for me to get Door Dash or GrubHub, even though GH is free through Amazon Prime.
That being said, there are just times when I don't want to go out or cook at home so I'll succumb to their charms.
And then when my food arrives lukewarm and I've paid through the nose in fees and upcharges, I vow never again.
Until the next time...

I have used Door Dash by proxy one time. The food arrived late and cold and it was smooshed. We didn't have a vehicle and were in Jersey City and were too far to walk to anywhere close. It made me never want to use it.
We eat out at least once a week and I am always happy (okay not always happy, but will do it so I don't have to cook) to pick up food. Thankfully we are in the area of town that has been updating the area and now we have tons of options.

We live rural, so we don't have that option here for grocery delivery or food delivery (other than a few local places that still deliver). Even when we lived somewhere with delivery services, I still went out to pick up. I hate paying extra. DS was doing food delivery pretty often at college, but it always arrived cold and late (often they can't find his building even though he is on the phone with them outside directing them). He has been cooking much more for himself now or if he does order, he doubles it and makes sure it is something that heats up well for later.

Put me in the category of folks who have never used one of these delivery services. We rarely eat out, not because we don't like the treat occasionally, but because it's generally too expensive, not better or healthier than I can make myself, and more of a hassle than not. I was going to echo what don said about Safeway (or many groceries) that have ready-made meals or even stuff in the frozen section that are far less expensive and not completely unhealthy and also take less time to heat & eat than it sounds like these delivery services do.

Any time we use a delivery service, it's been bad. Groceries delivered by Wal-Mart. Half of the order was in the middle of the road as if the bag ripped and they just left it there. I cancelled that subscription that night. Door dash delivered the wrong food. We decided it wasn't worth it using them so never used them again. We tried GrubHub both here and previous house - two different cities - and got horrible service. Cold food, drink missing, wrong order even.
Strangely, my kids have used food delivery services many times and only once was a complete failure.
We want pizza delivered but they all require a minimum that we never meet.
My neighbor gets food delivered a lot but yet can't afford to get the other car fixed. Stop having food delivered and those fees would probably cover most of the repair cost!

we know people who were spending about $5,000 a MONTH on food delivery. a month! how can two people consume that much in just a month? i know a majority of it was delivery fees and tip but still.

Just wanted to add that if I can't eat my fries hot from the fryer then I don't want to eat them at all. Having them ride around in someone's car before I get them doesn't do anything for me!

Adding DD to my insurance policy.
At first I was going to have her open her own policy but it would cost 265 a month for liability.
When I first got my liability insurance at 17, it was 110 a month

I know, right? I don’t even want to wait until I drive the ten minutes to get home before I eat the fries right out of the bag. They’re so nasty once they’re cold! We have never used any of those food delivery services. Dominos is the only pizza place that will come here and no sandwich places deliver to our house. One of the third party places would be our only option so we would rather just go there ourselves. We don’t even get takeout Chinese, we go to a local buffet place when we want that. We used to go out way more than we do now. For a very brief time while I was pregnant we had groceries delivered, but the cost was too much even back then to continue it once we didn’t really need it. And LOL about the Subway $5 foot long! It hasn’t been $5 for years. Even with their coupons it ends up being over $25 just for sandwiches for the three of us (eat half for dinner, save the second half for the next day’s lunch).

Good news about my million dollar order is that so far, we've gotten 4 dinners and 3 lunches out of it, and there's still some left. So at least the fee per meal eaten is less!

I used to pay for weekly grocery deliver for my mother who lives in another state. The mark up is outrageous. And I always paid 20% tip on top of that, because it's not the driver's fault that Instant Cart charges a lot. Now I pay for restaurant delivery for my mom. It always ends up being at least $30 for just one person. It's crazy. I rarely pay delivery for myself. I just don't want to pay such a high fee unless I really have to.
