Walmart delivery prices are the same online/ delivery as in store. it is like 98
a year or you can do monthly.
While I prefer to do it myself, some days my RA makes that a poor choice.
It may be just my store but the pickers do great.

My best friend (who is truly the most financially responsible person I know) drives for door dash when she’s out running errands or driving from location to location for work. She said at least 60% of her deliveries are to high schools and middle schools. And she said most of the orders are for multiple people. So kids are using parent credit cards to buy food for themselves and their friends. It’s so crazy to me. I have used DoorDash 0 times and plan to keep it that way (I am very cheap)

The only time I use DD is when I want food from a local Jamaican restaurant because I get my food faster thru DD than if I went to the restaurant directly! This restaurant caters to food delivery services so they fulfill those orders first. If you order directly, they will tell you your food will be ready in 30 minutes, but in reality it takes over an hour. Fortunately the DD menu prices are the same as the restaurant menu prices so the extra cost isn't too much (service/delivery charge plus tip). But I always get the food within 45 minutes. (There aren't many Jamaican restaurants around so they don't have competition. I only crave Jamaican food twice a year so it's not too costly.)

DoorDash has been a life saver for my daughter. She and her roommate were wasting so much money on food from the grocery story that they never ate. They are in classes 8-10 hours a day 5-6 days a week so never really have time to cook. So my dd just wouldn't eat sometimes. They got the Doordash dash pass so they don't pay the fees. They know the restaurants that give them huge portions so it will last a few days for them. I send her door dash gift cards because in the long run it's actually saving us money.
On the other hand we used doordash once. It took a while to get it, it was cold and it was the wrong order. And the fees were outrageous. So no for us.

The thing with door dash is they don’t pay their drivers enough base pay. So many dd drivers won’t take it because who want want to drive so many miles for such a low pay. And they can tell if you tip before or not. Many times if people say they will tip later, they dont. So drivers want to take orders where the tip is already paid.
I did Shipt for awhile and they too have lowered their base pay. It’s ridiculous considering we are shopping for the customer and delivering.
Anyways, I’ve only done it once after coming home from vacation and loved it for that reason but yes it’s expensive. The drivers are independent contractors so they do rely on tips.

i agree it is so crazy expensive to get food delivered now - the fees, higher priced menu. I used to during covid. And food isn't always as hot as I want it and takes forever to get it. but now it is only when i am sick. But my teenager is very close to driving so i will soon have my personal food delivery driver. (well maybe since she has been working on driving for over 8 months and is no where close to taking her driving test)

So kids are using parent credit cards to buy food for themselves and their friends. My HS DD and several of her friends have cards associated with their "bank accounts." She has one with Cashola, but there are others. You can't open bank accounts (or maybe just checking accounts?) now without a government issued ID, but several of them have jobs even though they aren't yet 16. So they can order stuff with these cards, not necessarily with a parent's card. I mean, I'm sure there are plenty who DO use a parent's card, but at least this group doesn't. If they buy crap like that, they are on their own! (Which is why DD learned very quickly not to order this stuff, lol.) We'll give her our card if she's out of town at a tournament and can't leave to get food or something, but even so, she knows that if she orders just junk or is frivolous, she has to pay us back.

When I compare Door Dash to delivery thru the restaurant, there is usually a minimal difference. $30+ does not sound right for a difference

Parents can bring food, but no deliveries.
