Were there any in this thread that you haven't read and that look good to you? I found a bunch of them. lol. I made a list but only put two on hold. I have to restrain myself because at the moment I have five physical books and four Kindle books from the library. It's a problem. lol. A good problem, but still...

I like this series, too - I'm not at ALL a sci-fi fan, but these books have a very light touch on the futuristic stuff. I also love a good cozy mystery series, and I think I have read most series that involve needlecraft, bookstores, cats, or Maine Me tooooooo! Also bakers/cooks. LOL

I adore Elly Griffith's Ruth Galloway series! (I didn't like the Zig Zag Men series or whatever that was). I also really like the Thursday Night Murder club series you mentioned. I read so many series and I'm trying to think of them all now and failing. A few I like that I do remember: Linda Castillo's Kate Burkhelder series (ex-Amish woman turned police officer) Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series (which is short) Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series Attica Locke's Highway 59 series (I don't know how this isn't prestige TV yet) Paul Doiron's Mike Bowditch series (in the woods of Maine) both of Anne Cleeve's longer series Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series (local author, Seattle stories) I also love a good cozy mystery series, and I think I have read most series that involve needlecraft, bookstores, cats, or Maine . I’m going to assume that you have read The Vampire Knitting Club series. I never thought I’d like the cozy mystery genre, but these books are so fun. I read them in between more intense reads, kind of like a palate cleanser. I haven’t read any of her other series (Great Witches Baking Show, Vampire Book Club), but I plan on it if I ever finish VKC. I’m a slow reader these days.

I like the Lexi Graves series by Camilla Chafer. And Goldy Schultz series by Diane Mott Davidson. Fun mysteries without much gore or overly scary storylines.

don, Many years ago I worked with a woman who was a huge J.D. Robb fan. Each time a new book was going to be released, she would start over from book 1 in the "Death" series before she read the new one. It blew me away that she did that. She came to work early and read, read on her breaks, on her lunch hour and sat in her car after work for at least an hour reading before she went home. I remember her saying her husband would bug her and she wouldn't be able to read after she got home. I thought it was so bizarre but to each his (her) own. I never read the same book twice because there's so many books I want to read. I just can't imagine starting a series over EVERY time a new one came out. And you mentioned there's now 60 in that series! Attachments:

What a wonderful thread! I have read several of these series, and can’t wait to try the other series that are mentioned. 😊 (But just like flanz, I stay clear from sexual violence.) I loved the Maisie Dobbs-series by Jacqueline Winspear. I have the first book of the Lady Hardcastle Mysteries on my Kindle (thank you for reminding me, lainey!) and also the first book of Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency ( lesley mentioned this series). Both books I haven’t read yet. Janet Evanovich’ Stephanie Plum-series was recommended to me several times over the years and I think it’ll be just my genre ( basket1lady mentioned this series a few posts earlier). I have looked several times for a good deal, but all the books in the series cost more than 11 euro’s (12 dollars), and that is quite a high price for the Netherlands. (Kindle Unlimited isn’t available here and the Dutch library doesn’t have a lot of e-books in its collection.) I hesitate to splurge for the first book, because, knowing myself, if I like it, I’ll want to read the other books immediately too. :

I love the two Anthony Horowitz series - Hawthorne and Horowitz Investigate (where the author writes himself into the storyline of the books) 4 books staring with The Word Is Murder. Then the Susan Ryeland Series, only 2 books so far; Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders
Also the Veronica Speedwell series, set in England in 1800s by Deanna Raybourn
and I enjoy the Inspector Karen Pirie series by Val McDermid. Set in Scotland and she solves cold cases.

I am another one who likes cosy mysteries and have read most involving craft and cooking. For a more serious mystery/crime series, I became hooked on Camilla Läckberg's series with Erika Falck (journalist) and Patrik Hedstöm (police detective) when I visited Sweden a few years back and found a bookstore with a display of Swedish crime authors in English right near the door! It is set in Sweden, in a region between Gothenburg and the Norwegian border. BUT - for those who have said they don't like child abuse and similar themes - these books are also probably not for you.

I did see some criticism that the actress playing the main character was too young. Did you think that?

I did see some criticism that the actress playing the main character was too young. Did you think that? She was rather young (maybe early 30s?), but they seemed to use that as part of the plot - a reason why, along with her being female, that the older men on the force objected to her doing the job and didn't cooperate. As I haven't read the books, I don't know if that was a theme in them.

Yeah, I found a few I'm going to check out. I counted through the recommendations and it's split about 50/50 between series I've read some or all of and series I've never read. I've got stacks of books here at home and also a Kindle Unlimited membership and I feel the overwhelm, too! I'm making a concerted effort to read through and dispose of my physical stash here. Most of it came from thrift stores or library book sales, so it should be easy to read through them and re-donate them. But then I get Kindle books and also library books sometimes, too. Yeesh.

I actually found the first book a day or two after we had done a road trip up to Uddevalla, which is near the region where the books are set. It was one of the reasons I bought this particular book from the selection they had.

flanz You should start looking for "The Cat Who ..." books by Lillian Jackson Braun. I used to have the whole 29 books, but I gave them to one of my teen granddaughters. I bought them at used book stores and garage sales. They feel almost like letters from the town of Pickax.
