In the regular reading thread Mystie mentioned that she was going to have to search for a new mystery series. Since I love a good mystery, and I love series, I thought I would start a new thread to make some lists. I didn't put it in the reading thread because I thought maybe there would be people who would see this here but who don't participate in the regular reading thread. Some of my favorite mystery series: -- Inspector Gamache by Louise Penny -- Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman -- Phyrne Fisher by Kerry Greenwood -- Ruth Galloway by Ellie Griffiths -- Miss Marple books by Agatha Christie (I don't care for Poirot) -- #1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith -- Darko Dawson, and Emma Djan, both by Kwei Quarty -- The Cat Who.... by Lilian Jackson Braun That's just off the top of my head. I'd love to see everyone's other recommendations! And hopefully Mystie will find something that looks interesting.

Oh gosh there are so many I love! I find more obscure ones through my Kindle that I can't always find at the library. Love the Donna Andrews series-every title is a word play with bird types. Kate Carlisle has two series One is about a bookbinder and one is a fixer upper lady Jana DeLeon-Fortune series Dianne Freeman-A LAdy's Guide to... Jenn McKinlay-Librarian Leslie Langtry-Merry Wrath mysteries C.L. Bevill-Bubba mysteries I need more time but I will come back!

I really enjoy the Cork O'Connor series by William Kent Krueger. They are all set in Minnesota and have a strong outdoorsy setting.
I also enjoyed the first 4-5 books in the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling). I haven't read the most recent book or two in the series because they've gotten a bit too long for my tastes.

I love Sophie Hannah's Culver Valley/Waterhouse and Zailer series which starts with Little Face...although they may be more Psychological Crime novels than mysteries perhaps.

I just finished reading Deborah Crombie's Duncan Kincaid series. There are 19 books in it, and I was ready for another 19 when I finished. Highly recommend!

Most recently I've been reading the Bree Taggert series by Melinda Leigh. And bonus - it's free on Kindle Unlimited.

I adore Elly Griffith's Ruth Galloway series! (I didn't like the Zig Zag Men series or whatever that was). I also really like the Thursday Night Murder club series you mentioned. I read so many series and I'm trying to think of them all now and failing. A few I like that I do remember: Linda Castillo's Kate Burkhelder series (ex-Amish woman turned police officer) Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series (which is short) Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series Attica Locke's Highway 59 series (I don't know how this isn't prestige TV yet) Paul Doiron's Mike Bowditch series (in the woods of Maine) both of Anne Cleeve's longer series Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series (local author, Seattle stories) I also love a good cozy mystery series, and I think I have read most series that involve needlecraft, bookstores, cats, or Maine .

I won't read about child abuse or other sexual violence. If it's referred to briefly I might but not if it's the theme of the book. Would these be "safe, Don?"

I like the Fergusson/Van Alstyne mysteriesThe Ballad Series by Sharyn McCrumbthe Gregor Demarkian series(particulary after the author jettisoned the holiday theme) and the Gaslight Mysteries (though there can be some icky setups in this one.)

flanz, Maybe not for you. The Lieutenant, Eve Dallas, was abused as a young girl, and now as a Lt. she does solve cases of homicide, including abusive murders.

Love this series, though it can go dark. And I totally agree, if the mystery involves cooking, needlecraft, bookstores, chocolates, and a couple of different states I've likely read it.

How about the Chronicles of St Mary’s series by Jodi Taylor? I’ve read the first two and enjoyed them. YES! Have you read the time police spin off she did? I actually like it better, but if you haven't read through the full Chronicles series you may be lost on some of the characters. There's a real ongoing plot line in those books that is worth following.

Several of the books explore the main character's abuse as a child and it's pretty gritty. It's a good series, but probably not for you.

If you want to read a series for laughs and a fun read, the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich are excellent. Not as in, a Pulitizer prize well written sense, but just as a fun series that will literally make you laugh out loud at times. They all follow a pretty predictable format but I still get excited every time a new book is published. The audio books are also excellent.
