We just sold our boat last summer. Anyone under 14 always had a life jacket on in the boat and you could easily walk around on it and sleep in it. We would take it to a local reservoir and every single year people would capsize their boat and someone couldn't swim or hit their head or whatever. Scary. How hard is it to ask a kid to put on a lifejacket?

I agree with you and there is no way the kids should be without a life jacket even if they are olympic level swimmers. And your husband should be wearing one too, as if there is a problem, he will need to save his kids. And I would worry about them drivng the boat drunk. My neighbor's brother and three others on the boat were killed in a boating accident involving a drunk driver. I would be very strict on what is expected for their safety.
