I never have my items in a bag. When I shop, I place all items with the barcode facing up and scan them quickly that way with the hand-held scanner. Sometimes there is someone to show the receipt to, which I do, and sometimes they do not. I have the bags standing up in the back of my SUV and quickly put my items in there from the cart. Works for me and it's very efficient. Oh I like this idea! I'll have to try it when my kids go back to school. Right now my cart is so full I'd never be able to lay the barcodes out so they're scannable.

I've never been asked. The very few times I shop at Walmart is usually for one or two items. Depending on what they are, I will skip a bag. I usually hold the receipt on the product add I walk out.

The only time I was asked to show my receipt at a Walmart was in the U.S. I declined to show it.
I live in Canada. The Superstore in our town decided to start asking people to show receipts. The person checking would go through every receipt with a fine tooth comb and actually look in bags. The line ups were ridiculous. I walked past and this person ordered me to get into the line to have my receipt checked. I told her NO, walked out with my groceries, and didn't go back for over 3 years, until I heard they no longer did this because they lost too many customers. I go back very occasionally, but not like I used to.

I don't mind showing my receipt, but I do mind going to WalMart, so I shop at Target.

The Walmart nearest me is one that has a lot of drama. A week or so ago a shoplifter confronted by police ended up in a high speed chase after taking the cop’s gun. They also have a lot of theft and have a lot of product locked up.
I’m asked to show a receipt if I have in bagged items. I have no problem showing my receipt. If I don’t like it, I can go elsewhere. With the current level of theft I don’t blame them. I don’t take it out on the employees, that’s just a dick move.

I don’t shop at Walmart so I don’t know what they do or don’t do at the stores in my area. I do shop at Costco and don’t mind that they check, although now that they added self checkouts I usually go that route because it’s faster. Plus the person monitoring the self checkouts checks the receipts right there so I don’t have to wait for that again at the door. With the blue self checkout slip they wave you right on through because it was already checked and signed off.
Other than Costco I shop at Target mostly and they don’t check receipts ever. I saw a reel someone posted though that said, “This is our Target now” and literally every aisle (looked like health and beauty) was totally locked up. Ours isn’t like that.

No. Here there tends to only be receipt checking in Black or Hispanic neighborhoods so on principle I refuse. If I walk into a store and see that they check receipts I walk out without buying anything. I've been profiled enough to know what the signs are and I know how I can get (likely to curse someone out or do something arrest worthy). Better to avoid the possibility.

Luckily I'm only shopping for the two of us and I've got it down to a science. I do the same thing at Costco so I never put anything on the belt. The cashiers love me. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/laugh.jpg.gif)

I always walk out with my receipt in my hand so that I can show it if asked. They post a person right outside the checkout. so I plan on being checked at Walmart. I also do this at Sam's because I know they will scan my receipt/items every single time. Our state changed to 10 cent bags in January, so if I am smart enough to remember a tote, my stuff is in that. If not, I juggle it. I am also a white woman and know that I probably don't checked as much other people, but the receipt stays out.

I leave stores without my items in a bag all the time.
I don't shop at Walmart...there isn't one near me.

I'm not bothered by showing my receipt. They can dig through my bags if they want to match stuff to the recept. Doesn't make me feel like they suspect me of stealing, makes me feel like they're doing what they're told.
Maybe I should add I work at a grocery store. I'm not going to give them grief over the receipt for my purchase, working with the public is challenging enough, I'm not going to be a sour spot in their shift. I know I'm not stealing, not bothered by proving it.

With all the shoplifting and theft going on these days I don't mind showing my receipt at all. It only take a couple of seconds. No biggie. Same. I don't care if someone sees what I bought or not. And I leave stores without bags all the time. It’s unlikely that they would stop you though. That’s the issue. It’s not consistently enforced. They pick and choose who they stop.

I’ve noticed what appears to be racial profiling as far as who can walk on by and who gets stopped to show the receipt.

I have occasionally seen someone at the door checking receipts, but have rarely been asked to see mine.
however, now that it is very common for people to carry out items not in a bag, I think it is probably a good think to check receipts at the door. In fact, in any store that I am picking up One item and carrying it out , I always hold receipt on top the item. For example, the other day I purchased a couple of items at a drugstore and paid for them in the pharmacy. The I carried the items completely through the store and out the door. There would be no way of anyone knowing if I had paid for the item or it.
I suspect more stores will be checking receipts in this world of ‘no bag unless you pay for it” or bring your bag. Fair enough practice I think

We have a Sheriff at our Walmart along with an employee situated at the exit door. I have only been asked for my receipt once.

They check here and we don’t get free bags. I don’t mind unless there is a long line then I get annoyed. I have also seen people walk through the self check snd right out the door without showing a receipt while the door checker says have a nice day 🤦♀️ they had heavy items in their hands but didn’t even attempt to show a receipt. I assume he just shop lifted but no proof. Most people here stop. It’s rare they don’t.

It’s incredibly rare that I go to Walmart.
Only if my kids ask me to take them to search for a new wave of NASCAR cars or if it’s the only place we can find to stop on a road trip.
I do not show a receipt. I just keep walking. I’m not standing in a line to get out of the store.

When I worked for Walmart and would be at the door, I was told to check things like TVs, deer stands, car seats, etc. Have also saw people with multiple large dog food or baby diapers/wipes boxes be checked.
Last time I was asked was maybe 5 years ago? Bought a higher end water hose, wasn't bagged. Didn't mind

1. Canada - but I've never been asked to show it at our Walmart. I know for a fact another person in town has - because it was the self checkout, the receipt thing wasn't printing and he had paid. The self area cashier came running after him (after seeing him ring in his stuff) to provide proof he paid. He was also black. And that was his issue. 2. No stores here provide bags any more unless you pay for cloth bags. I walk out all the time with stuff not in a bag if I've forgotten to bring some with me. They can't make you stop in Canada. Only Costco since it's in the agreement for the membership you buy. Though I read recently that Loblaws is now requesting to see your receipt. So it will be interesting what comes of that considering you have the right to say No and keep walking.

The Walmart I shop at does not ask to see your receipt.
If I am buying 2 or 3 items, I do not put them in a bag.

Our local Walmart always has someone at the door but they don’t check everyone’s receipt. I’ve always been curious how they decide whose to look at and what they are looking for since they don’t seem to inspect it very closely. Yesterday I was at Costco and they had two people asking to look at peoples cards as they got into the self checkout line. One of the people said that it was to compare pictures to the person in line. In the time that I was in that area I didn’t see them catching anyone who shouldn’t have been there so it seems like paying two extra people to do that is pointless. I was in my local Costco the other day and for the first time in the 4.5 years I’ve been a member, after she scanned my membership card, I was asked for my license - because my picture wasn’t on my Costco credit card, which was in my hand along with the other card since I’d just pulled both out of my pocket. Not the membership card, but the credit card. I’d never even paid any attention to the little square on the back of it where a picture could go. And I was thinking how could it be on there when it came through the mail? Then later that day or the next I read an article somewhere that said they are cracking down on people trying to use other people's memberships, even if you live in the same household. The article said they were checking especially at the self-checkouts (I was at the regular checkout lane).

I rarely show my receipt to be honest it just irritates me, especially when they are creating a line to check receipts. I tell them no thank you I paid and keep walking.
I almost started a riot one night lol. One night not too long before the whole pandemic started my mother had been staying with me for several weeks and I got her moved Into her own place that day. We went to Walmart for items she needed but it was getting late the weather was about to turn nasty. The person checking the receipts was causing a huge line, So I just went around it. She yelled at me that I had to wait and get my receipt checked and I told her no that I had paid. The ladies behind me said "oh wait we can do that? We're doing that!" and just kept walking too. Or there was the gentleman who was nowhere near the door but talking to his buddy father up in the aisless and literally screamed at me "ma'am!" as I went out the door, stood there and gestured for me to come to him because I had a larger item that was not bagged. I just kept walking out the door. I have been told by more than one of the door checkers that they can't do anything if you say no. I don't know why this bugs me so much but it really really does. I never yell at the receipt checkers but I guess it's just my thing too many that I'm just not going to do I never yell at the receipt checkers but I guess it's just my hill of one thing too many that I'm just not going to do.

If that's the case, that they won't stop the middle aged white lady, but they stop the people of color, the people who look in any way "different" - you're absolutely right. It's wrong.

They ask, but they certainly aren't checking my bags to see if anything matches. It's just some teenager or elderly man and I'm not going to make their jobs any more stressful by refusing like some giant asshole just to prove a point they don't care about.
It's not a hill I need to die on. It's just a receipt, not a strip search.

I do not stop to show my receipt. They aren’t actually checking anything so it’s pointless and causes a line to get out of the store.
I use the self check out and typically there are 2 workers watching me scan my items, I’m being recorded and anything of “value” was locked in a plastic box that a worker had to open anyway.

I don't stop. I am not rude. If they ask, I ask if I am being detained. They say no, so I keep going. If they were to say, yes you are being detained, I would stop and cooperate with their questions and receipt checking theater. Mostly, I just don't have time for their performance. I did not agree to those terms and conditions like I did at Costco with their membership. I am aware this is my white privilege. I avoid Walmart as much as possible though.
