I shop at Walmart all the time as they have the best prices in our area. They have never asked, but I would be happy to show my receipt. We have a lot of shop lifting at our store.

I keep my receipt visible if I can, but at least handy and ready to show. No one has ever asked to see it, but if they do, by showing the receipt I can obviously avoid a lot of unpleasantness.

They do ask for receipts here and I refuse to stop. They only man 2-3 checkstands and converted the rest to self-checkout. If the company made a conscious decision to not pay people to check me out, it's not my issue if people steal--they've brought that problem upon themselves. I am not rude about it, but I refuse to stop on principle. Also here in Co a law was just passed charging for bags so it is not uncommon to see people walking out with unbagged items in their hands.

Mine was asking to see it if you used self checkout. I refused the one time I was asked and told them that they should have checked me out if the wanted to know what I bought.

We don't have Walmart here, but at K-Mart and Big W there is always someone on the doors to check your bags/receipt. I don't understand the big deal about showing them your receipt. Most of the time they barely look, and sometimes they don't look at all and I walk right through.
Pizza guy was obviously trying to make a point. Not sure what his point was, but he was determined to make it.

1 I rarely shop at Walmart anymore. I don’t like the one I live by. And no they don’t do that at most of them here. If they asked I would show itbut they don’t. Only Sams club & Costco do it here. In fact I went to ive with my son near his college and apparently they do that there but only to ‘some’ people - apparently not chubby almost past middle aged white ladies because the guy asked the people in front of me & the people behind me but did not ask me, I was offended by that but my son dragged me out of there before I could take issue with the guy. My DS is like don’t mom I’m sure it’s not this guys policy so yelling at him isn’t worth it but I did write an email about it calling them out for racist profiling and got some generic crap response back
2 yes, now that there is the bag ban & store charge for bags a lot if people walk out without bags - most people actually. M

I don't mind showing my receipt at Walmart If it deters a few shop lifters here and there and I pay a few pennies less per year for my groceries because of it, I'm all for it.
The old mom and pop stores I grew up with never would have treated their customers that way, but we all decided that we cared more about the convenience of buying everything we needed in one place and paying lower prices to do so. One of the tradeoffs is that we're not going to be treated as a valued customer and family friend at big stores like Walmart.

I only walk out without a bag for large or heavy items (cat food; litter; toilet tissue, gallon of milk, etc). If I have an unbagged item, I'm always asked for the receipt as I walk out the door. Sometimes they even ask to see the receipt even if everything is bagged.
Since I know I might be asked for it, I always print it (even though you have the option to email it) and I keep it out until get to the car.

I've never been asked to show a receipt anywhere but Costco - I didn't know what was a thing.
Those cops were awful. I hope they are punished.

Just had to share this. I was in Walmart today and had a 24 pack of Diet Cokes and 2 plants that were not in a bag. So of course they wanted to see my receipt. So like a good little consumer I showed it. As I was leaving, a man told me "I would have just given them the middle finger and walk on out". I told him I had thought of just walking on out.

1 - Do you show your receipt at Walmart? I haven't been to a Walmart in years. But the last time I was there they didn't ask to see a receipt. We don't have Costco or BJ's here, and again, I haven't been to Sam's Club in over a decade, and that was the only place I have ever been asked to show a receipt. And yes, I did show it when asked.
2 - Is it unusual in your area to see people walk out of a grocery store with un-bagged items? If they have large cumbersome items or just a few small items, then no, it's not unusual to see people leave with un-bagged items. I mean, if someone was trying to carry 20 things out the doors in their arms, then yeah, that would be weird, LOL. But there are definitely times when either they don't have a proper size bag, or you just don't need to waste a bag for how little you have.
