If you own a Kindle, which one would you recommend and why?
Thanks for any input.

I LOVE my Kindle Paperwhite !
Small & convenient to fit in your purse, adjustable light, no glare in the sun. Holds more books than you could ever read. I have the 8 GB and it holds approximately 3,000 books. Plenty big for all your reading needs. Don’t forget, no need to keep books you have already read on your Kindle, as they are always in your Amazon library.
The battery life is great, depending on how much you read a day. I think Amazon’s battery estimate is based on 20 minutes of reading a day. I average about 6 hours a day and charge my kindle once a week. Lots of people like the Oasis which is quite similar but has page turning buttons. The Paperwhite is touchscreen. I don’t like “the look” of the Oasis since the screen is not centered on the device. I think that would drive me crazy. Just my personal hang-up, symmetry.
PUSH THAT BUTTON ! Buy that Paperwhite !

I had a paperwhite and loved it. I have the oasis and REALLY love the buttons. It is about 1" bigger than the PW, and the battery is not quite as great as the paperwork, but I honestly love it.

Paperwhite over here. I love it, this is my third or fourth version of it. I actually looked at the sale price as my battery is starting to die. If you have a previous iteration you can return it for a discount on a new one.

If you only want it for reading then paperwhite or oasis for sure....
I have a fire... i play games.. surf internet.. do the nyt games... stream youtube prime and Netflix... PLUS READ!!!
We were at the beach during the 4th of July week... it is harder to see to read because of the glare... but it does work...

I agree, get the Paperwhite. It fits right in your hand and is so light. If you are like me and read in bed at night, if you end up dropping it, it won't hurt as much I had the Fire a few years ago and it was just too heavy for reading in bed. I have been looking at the Oasis, but can't justify getting a new one seeing there is nothing wrong with mine.

The Oasis! The page-turning buttons are a game changer! lol I know, seems odd to be so excited over buttons... But, the Paperwhite (which is excellent also) has the pages turned by tapping the screen. You tap the right side and the pages turn as you read, you tap the left side and the pages go backwards. But I'm right-handed and in the morning when I'm drinking coffee, or if I'm eating something, it was awkward to try to tap the right side of the screen while holding my coffee cup or a fork. But the Oasis! omg, as I said, game changer. haha -- If you turn the Oasis upside down it reorients itself automatically and you can then turn the pages with the other hand. The top button is always to turn to the next page, whether or not you have the buttons on the right side for your right hand or on the left for your left hand. The bottom button is always to go back. It's also great for reading in bed and changing positions, which for me makes one hand more convenient than the other. I'd recommend the Oasis for those buttons alone. lol Otherwise it has all the same features as the Paperwhite (although of course it might have others...I can't compare since I ditched my Paperwhite when I got the Oasis)... But all the good stuff is there -- the ability to change font style or font size, the back light (or whatever it's called) that means there's no glare like on a regular device, reading in the dark, waterproof (or maybe water resistant..? I've never actually dunked mine to check! ) I LOVE MY OASIS.

Love my Paperwhite and when it finally dies, I'll replace it with another one. Mine is 10 years old and still working fine though

Paper white! It’s lightweight, easy to throw in my bag, I love the ability to make the font bigger or smaller, and it Illuminates well. I’ve had mine for 4-5 years and it’s great.

Have any of you who have the Paperwhite have a problem with the screen freezing? Never had a problem with my Paperwhite screen freezing. I’ve had 4 versions and never had any of them freeze. I also have 4 close “reading buddies” who’ve never had any issues with their Paperwhites.

Did you buy a cover your Kindle? I love changing my cover, so I have quite a few. Seasonal ones and holidays too! I’m addicted to my covers! Had to add I’ve bought my covers on Amazon and Ebay. I’ve never spent more than $10-12 on each cover and they all work great. I’ve dropped mine plenty of times with no issues.

Have any of you who have the Paperwhite have a problem with the screen freezing? no but the lag to turn the pages on my PW was getting on my nerves, it wasn't respnonding very well. Did you buy a cover your Kindle? I did. I like how it opens and closes to turn off and on.

Just an FYI, I've been looking at Kindle Paperwhite Prime deals for the past couple of days, and it looks like they don't ship till the first week of September. Every deal I've looked at has that ship date.

Also the thing I love about reading on the fire is scrolling!!!! I love to scroll my pages instead of turning them like the other 2 devices!! So the Fire is the only one that has a scrolling feature? I've been looking at the Paperwhite, but I gotta be able to scroll! That's how I read on my mobile Kindle app, so I'm used to it.

I have a paperwhite bought in 2017. It works but I'm not sure if I should upgrade. Have they improved that much? (It is a good price!)

Everything i have read searched or tried to research says no... you can't scroll on the oasis or paperwhites... you can only turn the pages.... with a button or on the screen... bummer!!!

Oasis. I had the Paperwhite for years and Oasis is far superior for battery and having buttons.

I have an oasis, bought two years ago on prime day. I like how it balances better when I read one handed. I turn it one way for one hand and upside down for the other. You can turn the pages by tapping the screen. I like how the screen lighting automatically adjust for wherever I am reading. I have had kindles since they first came out. This is the one I like best!

I promise that you won’t miss the scrolling. A Fire doesn’t have an e-ink screen, so you may as well use your phone or tablet.
I have a Paperwhite. I prop it up in the folds of the duvet and just tap the screen to change the page. I wouldn’t want to hold it up to use the buttons, so I didn’t upgrade to the Oasis. But if I needed the waterproof feature, I’d go with the Oasis.

I got the paperwhite on sale at Target in March 2020 because I worried that the libraries would be closed. I didn't use it as much as I should have, but it does take me a long time to get used to something new and I am tech challenged. I got tired of always asking my kids to help me with it so I think I just gave it away to a friend. Then I heard about the oasis and got it a couple years ago on prime day. I have very bad up close vision, so the only way I can read with my contacts in is on a kindle where I can enlarge the print. So the oasis slightly bigger size is part of the reason I wanted it. I have finally started to read on it all the time and it's really handy! I love the buttons as I would constantly do something wrong on the paperwhite and jump forward several pages. But I also can't text well (I juse the speaker function any time I need to use my phone) , so it's probably all me! haha
The battery life on my oasis is much shorter than the paperwhite that I had. If I am at the beach and reading a lot, I charge it every day (just so I have full charge). The paperwhite battery lasted much longer. The oasis battery does charge quickly when I charge it.
