Let's say you are having Friday to Monday company coming and staying at your place. How many people is too many? Asking for a friend...

Right now? 3-4, but we could figure out more depending on who they are. That is with my two adult children, one of their girlfriends, and one of the friends already living here in the three bedrooms that aren't mine.

We have a 2 bedroom house and that 2nd bedroom is also my craft room. It has its own bathroom but we really can't accommodate more than 2 people ever without someone sleeping on the couch or the floor. A couple of times, we gave DH's daughter and family our room with the kids sleeping on an air mattress on the floor. They stayed 5 or 6 nights.
So 1-2 people is generally my max.

Weeellll.... there's what we'd want and what we could technically pretty easily accommodate. We have plenty of room. We could easily fit 4 people if they are couples who would share beds. But we so rarely have company stay the night, we'd feel weird having that many people staying with us.

I put 1-2 because we have had 2 people stay here before, but it was when the kids were smaller. We have only one bathroom (not even 1.5), and it gets uncomfortable pretty quickly if it's more than one guest. When the college kids are home, it's tight even withOUT a guest.
Even so, we have houseguests once or twice a year.

So, I voted 7-10 because one year we had 8 relatives stay with us for one week. We were mainly just a place for them to shower and sleep. They were out sightseeing everyday. It worked out just fine. A family of 4, with two small children, took over the family room. One couple slept in the guest room. And another couple slept in one of our son’s room since he had already moved out but still had his bed in the house. But that is our family dynamics. We know we are always welcomed at a relative’s house even though sleeping arrangements may not be up to hotel standards.

I voted zero! My home my space! We have a five bedroom home. The master and two bedrooms are occupied. One of the extra rooms is a craft/sewing room and the ope study is also a craft/scrapbooking room. The game room does have a futon on it but it never gets made into a bed but t is a very comfy tv sitting sofa. There’s a recliner also. And a coffee table for snacks and stuff.. there is also a dest top computer. No real space for company because this is my sons downtime room. There are plenty of hotels nearby that people can stay in.
My MIL even stays there as there is only one full bath downstairs and it’s the master and only accessible through our room. She stays in the hotel because she likes to get up at butt-5:30 and makes a lot of noise. This way she can get up, be in a hearing assisted, handicap room. She can get breakfast downstairs and offer without disturbing anyone. And i can sleep until 7:30. It makes for a better relationship.
when we first bought this big house I swore we wouldn’t become the family hotel because everyone starting saying how great it would be to stay here for free since we live in Houston. I put my foot down and promised the kids they wouldn’t ever have to give up their bedrooms for family who wanted to visit. It’s funny how when I said they would have to bring sleeping bags and were welcome to the floor, that put an end to that.

The only people I'd tolerate here for more than one night are my kids. Maybe MIL because she would be gone most of the time. Anyone else, get a hotel room. Yes, we have a guest room. No, I don't make it available.
I don't even like being a guest in someone's house for more than a night.

I don’t think anyone can answer that without knowing the details of the house.
How many beds are there? Do the couches pull out to make beds? Is there a blow up mattress? Are we talking about a 500 sq ft apartment or a 5000 sq ft house?

We can easily sleep 5 and have a twin Euro blow-up so I voted 5-6. The most we've had is 4.

Back in the day, I could have up to 13-15 tween/teenagers at my house from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon for the local fair as our house was only a couple blocks away so the kids could walk to and from to hang out. The year they all used Axe before going to the town dance was brutal.

I want to see what the peas like and don't like. It's me. I'm the friend (hence the quotes). I am interested in how we are all alike and differ. I appreciate that we all are different and don't fit the same mold.

I answered 3-4. 5 bdrm/4 bath house and the only guest room rn has 1 twin bed we had from 4-6 over a long weekend and set up our camper for one couple plus airbed inside for another. Our bigger problem is running out of hot water with our off-peak water heater so DH and I have showered in the camper when we have had a lot of company, and it's not a problem once he starts the wood boiler up again. Yeah, I should have answered zero

How big is your friend's house? Do you know if they have empty bedrooms or guest rooms? If we had extra space, we wouldn't mind hosting for a few days. My biggest problem with people staying with us is the food/meal planning. I am not a good cook or host, haha!
I don't like staying at other peopoles houses, I prefer to stay at a hotel so we can get away after a visit. But that's just me!

I was wondering what each Pea thinks about company and how many people would be too many for their house or just preference for company. I know some of us love a family visit and some do not. I will say that there were more people sleeping on the floor than in beds. I am a let's stay at a hotel gal myself.

I may be an odd one here - I would rather have guests than be the guest. Like you 950nancy, I am happier staying a hotel. We can fit all 5 kids plus their partners and their kids quite easily. We have 6 bedrooms and all have at least a double bed in them save for one which has a three-quarter (in between a twin and double). The downstairs bedrooms also have room for a crib so each can accommodate a family of three, which works for 4 out of our 5 kids at this point. We have three bathrooms, our master and two others with shower/bathtub so it works okay that way too. The kids, except one, all live a plane ride away so they stay for at least 3 or 4 days - I am happy to have them for as long as they want to stay!! We have had guests that aren't family but usually only 2-4 at a time. They generally only stay a night or two.

That would 100% depend on who they were. We have a double futon and a single folding bed that could fit into the study, so 3 max if we had to. I could manage my mother and brother in separate rooms, so 2. Niece OR nephew, not both at once, so 1.
But my preference would be 0!

we have two guest rooms each with a full bed - but they share a bathroom. So up to two couples (four people) would be easy. More than that? we have sleeping bags, a couch (not sleep-sofa), and a single campcot.
We will have 3 in October as DD22 is coming home for 10 days and my sister/BIL will be visiting for 2-3 days while she is here.
We're (me, DH, DD16) are staying with DS31 and DD22 over Christmas for about 10 days - they have no guest room. One of us will have a camp cot, one of us will have a rollaway bed, and one of us will have the choice of the loveseat or a sleeping bag on the floor. It'll be fine and we'll have fun!

Our house is only 2,200 sq Ft with 3 bedrooms, only one of which is a guest room. The other room has zero room for anyone to sleep (it’s my clay room), and I don’t want anyone sleeping on the couch right in the heart of the home. They wouldn’t be comfortable out in the open, and we wouldn’t be comfortable doing anything in the living room or kitchen if they were still sleeping. So, we have one queen bed that would sleep 1-2 comfortably.

I have had up to 4. How many I would want? Zero. I hate to have to entertain people and cooking intimidates me when it’s for others not in my family.

I live in a two bedroom condo so I voted 1-2 people because I have a double bed in my spare bedroom ...
I do have a sofa with a pull-out sleeper though so I could accommodate two more people if necessary but I would prefer not to for that length of time ...
My two adult dd's sleep over on Christmas Eve ... one in the bedroom and one on the pull-out ... it's only one night ...

Depends on the weather/season, the planned activities...
We can comfortably sleep fourteen guests if they can share beds and rooms. More with air mattresses and couches. Our dining room table seats ten comfortably but we have had as many as 16 around it. We have three levels and a big yard, so we wouldn't all be tripping over each other.

I chose 1-2 because I don't like people but we have a friend who introduced us and his wife who come a few times a year to visit. We LOVE them. They aren't high maintenance. We eat, drink, play games, hang out, do nothing. They usually stay 3-4 days. I'm always happy to have them and love it when they come because it's not just us and the 11 year old and the 7 year old. We have a "guest room" that is also my craft supply storage and DH's office space.
I really don't enjoy when SOME people come to stay because I just don't like them. That's just how it is. Thankfully DH is on the same page as me.
DH is the cook and he loves cooking for people who will enjoy his food and creativity. The friends who come always kick in on cleaning up the kitchen and getting their towels and sheets to the laundry room. They also bring beer and food to share. Have I said that I love them? We've been friends since 1995! A chance meeting on AOL messenger about the college I was attending by the guy. He came to see the college and decided to go there. Then he became friends with my now husbands room mate who then introduced him to my husband who introduced him to me. We've been friends for a VERY long time and it's like time hasn't passed at all when we get together. The friends wife is so sweet. The friend was our witness at our Tahoe wedding. We were witnesses at the friends wedding. They don't really LIKE kids and don't want kids but they put up with our kids. LOL. Keepers in my book!
