I’m outside St.Louis, the weather is just awful right now. This is the first time in my 15 years living here that we’ve been asked to cut back on energy consumption to help the power grid. Thankfully we’re dual zoned a/c, so I’ve been keeping it above 80 on the second level (no one is up there during the day), today I’m keeping it at 77 on the main level and have moved into the finished basement to keep cool.
Climate change is real and ugly

My area of California has been under a heat wave for the last 2.5 weeks and it was extended last night. 102-105 degrees. We also had 2 days of high humidity due to monsoon weather.
I keep the A/C at 74 and sometimes drop it to 73.

We have heat and humidity coming tomorrow. Blahhh. But we are hoping for dry weather as our problem is rain. Days and weeks of strong storms and rain. So much devastation and destruction and the rain and storms still come. Just give us a little stretch with no rain please. And as much as I hate it, I will not complain about any heat and humidity in our area if we can get a nice stretch of dry weather.
My heart goes out to all of you dealing with the ongoing brutal record breaking temperatures. I hope everyone is able to stay some what cool and safe. Sending good thoughts to all of you dealing with these extreme temperatures.

We could use rain here in Southern California. Looking at fire maps there are so many places that could really use rain. I am tired of the heat. I have been staying inside but would love to keep the house cooler but at least we don’t have the high humidity here. I would love to see under 100 and under 90 would be amazing at this point.

Our heatwave has been going on for almost 3 weeks now. Close to the 90’s in my area, coastal, which doesn’t sound bad, but it is over 10 degrees higher than normal. And if you go inland 10 miles it is close to 100. We keep the downstairs at 77, which is nice for downstairs, but it is over 80 upstairs. Ugh! Really wish we had dual-level A/C.
What I don’t understand are the people who go outside to exercise during the day. A couple of people have died hiking in the local mountains/deserts. And there is a lady who lives near me that walks everyday I’ve seen her as far as 3 miles away from home. She was out there today at noon, with no water bottle or water backpack.
Stay cool everyone!!

Last week we were talking about how it was unusually cool here in MN, but now we are making up for it. I am at a baseball tournament with DS and it is unbearably hot. The "feels like" temp is 98.

Ugh...I'm sooooo over summer. This heat dome parked over the US is awful. Everything I've heard is that there's no end in sight and 2024 will be worse. Even our local So Cal mountains are in the 90's which is not normal.

I’m in Omaha, our house is 101 years old. There is AC on the ground floor only. Upstairs we have window units in the bedrooms. We have been able to sleep with no AC upstairs so far this year (I think we turned it on 1 or 2 days in early summer). But since it’s so damn hot and humid we’ve had it on in the bedroom since Monday. I’m actually surprised we were able to go so long before using our window unit consistently this summer. Usually it goes on at the beginning of July. Every year I cross my fingers that the central air is going to work. It was installed in 1986 and it’s all original. I won’t replace it until it actually dies. We have had to replace the capacitor twice into 18 years, that’s it.

The people going out hiking are playing Russian roulette. I lived in Phoenix for 4 years and knew better than to go out hiking in the heat! Our previous house didn’t have dual a/c, makes such a big difference to be able to keep whatever level you aren’t using warmer. We’re able to keep the main level at 78-80 at night, which means the a/c doesn’t run during that time. Big help on the giant electric bills for summer. I feel like adding to the “you know you’re old” thread (especially because I can hear my Dad saying it), if you’re warm inside at 77 degrees, go outside for awhile. It’ll feel pretty damn nice!

I heard last year that last summer was the coolest it will be. Apparently for awhile now the temps have been rising.
I do know last year this heat started in mid-June. It has just started now so at least it's a month later. It's nasty........

Not good to be out walking or running in this heat. A lot of people in our neighborhood walk and many with their dogs but they go early or late to avoid the heat - many that I see walking are elderly. They walk year round.

I was over summer after the first week of this heat. I got sick of the rain in March but would welcome a week of cool cloudy weather and rain. So many were complaining about May grey and June gloom. I enjoyed the gloom knowing what was coming and knowing it would last for months. Our heat lasts through October the hottest months are August and September.

I'm so thankful to be living in Oregon! We've had beautiful weather the last several days though I think it's supposed to reach 90 over the weekend. I'm sorry that people are dealing with the awful heat but I would take a few months of rain here over a brutal summer any day!

I'm so thankful to be living in Oregon! We've had beautiful weather the last several days though I think it's supposed to reach 90 over the weekend. I'm sorry that people are dealing with the awful heat but I would take a few months of rain here over a brutal summer any day! This is one of the reasons for moving from Southern California to Oregon. And I’ve been shocked at how nice this house stays. It has been in the high 80s here all week, but the house is staying really cool. I think it has to do with having a large attic that you can stand up in and a crawl space under the house. That combination seems to insulate the house to where it is consistently in the 70s inside with no air running. The California house got unbearably hot. So hot that I typically had to sleep downstairs in the summer until around 2 am when I could sleep upstairs. That house had vaulted ceilings in the living room and upstairs master bedroom. It was nice to look at, but they must not have been insulated at all because I could see little nail bumps after they installed a new roof. And those rooms were insanely hot all summer. And running the air conditioning was pretty much out of the question. The pool motor ran all day and my electric bill, without air going, was typically $600-$700 per month. It was killing me. Here in Oregon, my electric bill is $85-$110 per month. I was thrilled. And I have been running the air a bit in the afternoons if I am still unpacking boxes because that makes me too hot. If I just relax in the living room watching a movie, I don’t need to run air. It has been heaven for me.

I came home and drank a lot of water, but felt sick most of the day.

Daily, over 102+ at my home, West side of Houston, with heat off the nearby “prairies”, with mild breezes from the west bringing even more heat from those prairies. We caught 10 minutes of light rain yesterday, the fist in 20 days. We only water every three days for 10 minutes and the new baby tree gets five minutes daily. Grass is dry everywhere with fires bans, I am surprised no major fires anywhere yet. It’s so hot, there’s no grilling outside, inside it’s instant pot or crockpot, bread machine, toaster oven, George Foreman, rarely top of stove or big ovens. We’ve switch to light meals is soup, salad and sandwich. I am thinking of getting a panini press. Breakfast has been waffles, cereal, fruit, salad, eggs from the egg maker and toast. Lunch is leftovers in frozen divided meal prep trays or even store bought tv dinners in the microwave. The heat is Robbing us of appetites and the desire to cook! The pupper is learning to walk on the treadmill as the ground is too dangerous to his paws. I can’t even stand to ride the bike at six in the mornin as it’s already in the .ow 90s and rising!

<------ Arizona here.... record-setting number of consecutive days over 110 degrees. I believe we are on day 25 now. It's been horrible. At work, our field technicians are going above and beyond to make it through the day. We are filling their coolers every morning with hydration (water, Gatorade-like products, etc), and cooling towels. Our managers are bringing out ice pops to them to let them know we appreciate them. I feel for them. It's been brutal. Can't wait for our monsoons to bring rain and cool things down.
