I am looking at ordering a home address stamp for my new home. I am leaning toward the self-inking style. My question, I am single and live alone, but I’m not thrilled at the idea of advertising that by putting just my first and last name and then the address. That just shouts that I live by myself. I may be being too paranoid.
I am considering using “The Lastnames” and then the address. Anyone that doesn’t know me looking at this wouldn’t know how many “last names” actually lived at that address. But will this seem weird to friends? I will be using it on Christmas and birthday cards as my return address in addition to any business correspondence. I have no problem explaining to friends that would ask me about it, although some old friends already know the situation.
I am nearing the age that my grandmother was when she was murdered. She lived alone in a darling little 2-bedroom house that her sons purchased for her. It was in a very safe neighborhood. But still, someone broke in and raped and murdered her. (This was years and years before DNA testing was available. The detective thought it might have been the gardener’s son. He fled to Mexico immediately after the murder and no one was ever arrested for this)
I was 7 years old when this happened and it has haunted me all of my life making me extra cautious. And I would admit to being a bit paranoid too. The guy did something to the photos of family that Grandma had on her dresser and it gave the impression that he was going to come for us too. The police did tell us to be extra aware at the time and the fear never left me. I admit it has colored my entire life, making me super cautious.
And I am now living by myself just as Grandma was. I do have an alarm system with alerts on every door and window in the house as well as outdoor and indoor cameras, motion sensors, and a glass-breaking alarm. I keep the alarm on day and night. I just get a red flag warning feeling when considering ordering a stamp with just my name and address. But that very well could be my paranoia.
What would you do? Obviously if you are married or have kids at home, you would use “Male and Female Lastname” and then the address.
Which would you choose if you lived alone
Female Lastname address
or
The Lastnames address

Just leave "The" off the name line. Lastname Address I address things that way all the time. It's perfectly vague.

Another option…. I would use the last name, without “the”. Maybe a stamp that has a monogram letter and then just the last name followed by the address.
This negates the “multiples” issue, and other people have no idea how many people are involved in Lastname.
Have fun picking a stamp, I always get a kick out of looking at those!

How about first name initial + last name. “F. Lastname”

Just leave "The" off the name line. Lastname Address I address things that way all the time. It's perfectly vague. I didn’t even think of this! This is what I will do! I was jokingly thinking of putting my name and my dog’s name since his name, Winston, is obviously male. I wouldn’t do it but it gave me a laugh. Thank you for the suggestion!

I'm single and have lived alone my whole adult life. It's never occurred to me to not put my full name and address on a return address line. Just because there is an individual name on an envelope doesn't mean that person lives alone. That means the letter came from that person. For example, growing up my mom got everyone their own return address labels. I had my own, my sister had hers, mom had hers, and her husband had his. I can see why, given your history, you have some concerns but I truly think this is something you are overthinking.

That's traumatic, I can see why you have apprehension.
I personally can count on one hand the number of times I've needed to send any type of business correspondence within the last ten years. Is this really a concern? You could just write your first initial and last name.
If you want it for Christmas cards, your family knows it's just you. Unless you're suspicious of the mail man, I wouldn't worry about whether there are one or two names.
You could also just put your first initial and last name on the stamp if you really want a stamp.

Also, in light of your weird neighbor guy, did you get cameras set up? That could help a lot with peace of mind.

I vote Last name Address
I can see why you have grown up cautious. Horrible ordeal for a family, especially a small child.

Also, in light of your weird neighbor guy, did you get cameras set up? That could help a lot with peace of mind. I bought two more cameras and when trying to link them to set them up, I screwed something up. I tried a few things to fix it myself and even installed a new base unit since I had an extra from the last kit that I bought to get the cameras. I could not get it to work. I finally had to contact the company. I spent about 2 or 3 hours online with their help division before we got it fixed. They kept giving me different things to try and in the end, I had to completely reset the whole system by removing the batteries in everything and rebooting it. Then I had to go around to every item that had been installed already, all 32 of them, and do another install on each one. I cannot reach the windows in the garage, but there is no way any burglar is going to be able to break in and climb over all of the boxes. Plus, there is another alarm on the door between the garage and house. I got as much done as possible inside the house and now I need to climb up to the cameras that have been installed and reformat them. I will be doing that today or in the morning. I sure hope that never happens again! And you’re correct, I’m sure getting those cameras operating will make me feel safer. I just hope he doesn’t see me working on them and complain that I might be able to see into his yard. I put one on the other side of the house to monitor the door that enters into my laundry room and asked the neighbor on that side if it would bother him. He was all for it. He said knowing my camera will be watching part of his backyard made him feel safer and that if he ever has a problem, he will come to me for video evidence. They are super nice people. Apparently the scary guy behind me and his wife both have reputations here on my block. When I told my friend across the street, she rolled her eyes and said that they all have had a run in with those people. It’s sad to me that they have a bad reputation in a retirement community neighborhood. Everyone else is polite and happy.

As I began reading your post I was thinking "yeah crazy paranoid". Then I read the rest of the post. You have every right to be paranoid. May I respectfully suggest some counselling just for peace of mind.
As for the stamp I'd simply do: Last name Address
For example: Smith 123 Street city, state Zip code Countr
So sorry about your grandmere and how it's affected you/your life. HUGS

I'm with others who say to just put your last name and then address. Or even just the address. That's all the post office needs to redirect, if need be.

No name, just the address I don't think you need your name at all. You just want an address so that the mail can be returned to you if necessary. Also, if you are old school like me and still write checks, you can leave your address off of checks and just have your name (if you don't have your name, most people look at the check very suspiciously). I've been doing this for years.

I would not pay for them either for no more than I mail. They did come in handy the year I did the Christmas Card Exchange and mailed I think it was 115 cards.

I vote no name at all. The return address is for the convenience of the post office delivering mail that can't be delivered. They only need your address for that. They don't care. With a line drawing of a german shepherd/rottweiler as the logo, or a line drawing of your house and just the address You know, this is right up my alley and I need a distraction - I'll design it for you at no charge and you can just buy it here: www.rubberstamps.net/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=4924C. Let me know if you want me to do it

There is information about spouses, kids, and spouses' death, everything can be found online, who is dead or alive. Who is targeting you? Print your name on the return address. How many letters are you mailing? Would not invest in a stamp, unless floats your boat.
