Where we live, you basically have to do business with Time Warner/Spectrum/Charter in order to get Internet. We still use their cable service as well — and due to a fight with Disney, a whole bunch of Disney-owned stations (including ESPN) have been blocked. I love to watch US Open tennis and it is on mostly on ESPN. I am super sad, but not as sad as I’m going to be when college basketball season starts up and my husband can’t watch Kentucky basketball (the SEC channel is also blocked).
I frankly am to the point where I hate both companies and I don’t care what the business disagreement is about (money, I’m sure!) Several years ago when it was still Time Warner, we didn’t have NBC for months. It was ridiculous!
200% a first world issue but this girl loves her tennis.

Have you considered ditching cable and going to streaming? There are several streaming services with lots of sports options, as well as the ESPN+ app.

We have a couple streaming services in addition to cable and we can’t really find a combination that suits or needs for a decent price. And we are dragging our feet!
Cable is just easier for us and I really like my local channels. But you are right about switching. And we don’t really watch that much programming, but we love sports.

You can get a $15 rebate from Spectrum if you call/chat and ask for it. The guy i talked to yesterday told me to wait closer to the end of the month to cancel because they don't refund if the new billing cycle has started lol. YouTubeTV gave us a 21 day free trial so we can watch ESPN that way and I think we will keep it.

Spectrum seems to be making a lot of people angry. Patter has just cut the cord with them and gone over to YTTV.

Don't know the logistics and who is mad at whom, but the Clemson/Duke game was blocked on the ESPN+ app on Monday night, and IIRC some of the bigger games were blacked out last season too. Not sure about other sports but you may want to check before you consider this option.

Yeah, I'm mostly pissed off that I no longer get my local ABC news. All the other local news broadcasts are pretty much unwatchable for me.
Spectrum updated the info on the blank channel to say that Disney pulled this on Youtube TV, Sling and Dish (?). I really think this is going to be the end of cable as we know it if Spectrum doesn't cave. Cable companies will not offer "a la carte"/pick your own channels. That's why all these TV streaming services were created.
I guess I need to add up all the "a la carte" apps to see what the monthly damage will be on top of internet.

Not sure about that.......maybe....but I don't have Spectrum internet. Ours is AT&T. I do the ESPN+ as part of the Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle. The college games being blocked on that particular app may have more to do with the NCAA and where the games are located and what markets you are watching in than the Spectrum battle of the moment. I was surprised when we found out some things were blacked out, because we thought games were on ESPN, so games would stream on the plus app. Not always the case. But all I am familiar with on there is college football. If I were a sports aficionado, I would check on other sports before I switched to just ESPN+.

It is so annoying. There have been similar problems with dish and direct tv and various stations over the years. We switched back to spectrum from dish because they were the best way to watch local sports. But now most of the channels that Dh and the kids watch are out unless they make an agreement. There has to be a better way.

I feel your frustration. I have Comcast and just two days before pre-season football started I found out they wouldn’t be carrying ESPN. I went ballistic and started searching for a way to get it back so I had my football games. I don’t know what the disagreement was, probably money, but by 9pm that night ESPN was back in my cable lineup.
I would drop cable in a heartbeat but my dad is 95 and trying to explain streaming to him would make us both crazy so Comcast stays for now.

Sports are what we missed the most when we cut the cord. I watch a baseball game most days of the season through the MLB app, and I pay a premium for that, but there are some games not on the app that other providers carry (like ESPN) so we have lots of different apps loaded so I can catch as many as possible. And as mcjunkin indicated some games are blocked out regionally so before you guys make a decision call and confirm that the main teams you’ll want to watch will be available to you through whatever provider/app you choose. DH does soccer through a million different apps because they’re on the NBC Network. Basketball is our biggest issue because our team isn’t on TV nationally that much and we’re blocked from viewing because we live in the region. Here is a link on the SEC site and they’ll tell you who carries the games. But again, make sure your favorite teams won’t be blocked for you. AT&T Now, Sling, Hulu and YouTube seem to be the ones that stream the games SEC Network. Eta: but if the game is televised nationally whoever is televising it might own the rights to it. ABC, ESPN and CBS will be carrying some of the games.

Anyway I am using spectrum on my phone snd can go into the Disney app no problem snd have been watching Hulu For weeks using spectrum on my tv. I can’t imagine them cutting access to the app depending on your internet access not all people have options.

YouTube TV is the way to go. You get local channels plus cable channels as well and it's much cheaper than cable.
I share an account with my sister because you can have 6 logins so it's a win/win for us both!

I found out when I was in the middle of watching a US Open match and up popped the blue screen of we're not carrying ESPN any more. We're switching to Sling for everything except internet because it's gotten ridiculously expensive.

Yes, you can share your streams with YouTube TV. I just got it and the NFL Sunday Ticket. My two kids helped pay for it, so we're all watching at our houses.

They are adding channels all the time! We love it. And you get Hulu Streaming as well.

I did a week trial of FuboTV as soon as charter and Disney blanked out in the middle of tennis. We were ready to ditch cable anyway, this definitely decided it for us. Fubo is known for all its sports channels, this sports lover in in heaven.
My plan is to check out other streamers thru free trials and decide which we like best. Though I had no idea you could share YouTube tv. That’d be a huge benefit

They’ve done that for at least three years with no issues.

Spectrum is the only option in the town I moved to this year. I already hated it before the Disney blackout. I frequently have problems with buffering. The worst was when the broadcasts of the Super Bowl and the NCAA basketball final constantly cut in and out and the sound was not synched with the picture. Fortunately I don't watch much sports except when my boyfriend is here. I watch a lot of streaming with Roku.
In my former town I was able to use a Cablevision cable card with TiVo, which I loved. I had to give up TiVo when I moved because Spectrum does not provide cable cards (which are no longer mandated by the FTC). The Spectrum cloud DVR sucks

Spectrum seems to be making a lot of people angry. Patter has just cut the cord with them and gone over to YTTV. Yep, we had the same issue with Spectrum. We could not even watch ESPN+ or anything that we paid for additional via streaming that was affiliated with Disney. Hubby couldn't watch his Formula One, and that was the last straw. We officially cut the cord yesterday. I dropped off all of the boxes, and we are done. We now have You Tube TV with Acron add on and Philo to get all of the channels we love. It is saving us about $100 a month. The only thing we aren't used to is how to find all of our shows--is it on Amazon Prime, Britbox, Philo, YouTube TV? I told hubby we may need to make a list. Philo and YouTube TV have a guide/live so that is helpful too.

I'm being a big baby about all this and so upset with both Spectrum and Disney. I like my comfort zone with spectrum cable. I'm just being a big ole grumpy butt because I don't want to learn a whole new way to watch tv. I was left with no choice but to do the free trial of Youtube TV so I could watch my college football game on Saturday.
I have a new Samsung smart TV and haven't even gotten the hang of it yet. And now because of upgrading my TV, I can no longer watch Netflix because there's no sound. I've tried every darn setting, tried troubleshooting through netflix and samsung and still can't get any sound. It's only with Netflix, other apps work fine.
So bah humbug all around!!!
