Firstly let me just say that I am not an Apple fangirl or anything like that. I have a friend whose husband used to line up outside the Apple Store so that he could be the first to have the latest i-whatever that had been released, and we used to tease him and call him Gadget Man.
But..... I found myself eagerly awaiting the release this week of all the new products.
My three year phone contract finishes in December. I was thinking that I might hold onto my 12 Pro Max for a while longer, because it was in perfect condition. Then out of the blue a few weeks ago, the screen cracked, so I am definitely upgrading in December.
I had pretty much decided that I would just buy the Pro version, because after having the Pro Max for three years, I've decided it's a bit too big for me. But the new 15 Pro Max has a 5x zoom on it, and the Pro only has 3x. I am buying the phone primarily for the camera, and there have been plenty of times that I wished the zoom was better. So I will probably end up with the Pro Max again.
I would love one of the pastel coloured phones (pink, yellow, green or blue) but unfortunately those colours are not available with the Pro models.
DSO and I decided that we would get each other smart watches for Christmas. He will get a Samsung Galaxy watch, and I will get an Apple Watch. The new Apple Watch 9 has a really cool feature when you can double tap your thumb and forefinger to do all kinds of commands, like answer the phone, hang up, take a photo etc.
Does anyone have their eye on any of the new products?

I am getting a new Pro Max in Blue Titanium. It has been a couple years since I got a new phone and I’m looking forward to ditching my lightning cables.
Dh and I got new watches last year, so we will wait a year or two. You will love your Apple Watch. I feel naked when it isn’t on my wrist - I use it more than I imagined I would.

I will probably get a new watch.. and dh is getting a new watch and probably a new phone. He worked for apple last 6 yrs of his career and became a fan.. was not a fan in the 1970's.. when he asked a question of jobs at the west coast computer fair and jobs was a jerk.. (nothing surprising).
everyone got new laptops in the last two years so we don't need those.

I have a 12 Pro Max too. So my plan was either a 15, if the camera had enough improvements on it, or 16 for sure. 48 megapixels is a lot! I would need a 1TB model with the way I take photos and videos! And the 5x optical zoom is great too. I also like the emergency feature on the phone. If I get one, it will be towards the end of the year. I have a series 5 iWatch. Do I need an upgrade?!

I haven’t watched the presentation but DD did. She’s drooling over the pink phone and she told me the new watch has some nice features and is supposedly less expensive than previous models? I’ll have to look into that to see what she was talking about. I’d really love an Apple Watch but have been holding out because I don’t really NEED it but it is something I would use every day.

I didn’t even remember what version of the phone I had until this post had me look it up, so to say I’m not on the cutting edge of gadgets is the understatement of understatements.  It’s the 12 Pro so only about 3 years old. I’ve got 5 more years with this thing! I’m weirdly good with phones and they never break on me. Except that first camera flip phone but I had it sooo much longer than everyone else who got one at the same time. So I keep them forever. Unless I throw it against a wall. Eeesh. So how much better is the camera? I use it for that, texting and phone calls so don’t care about much else. |

Although, older AirPods still use lightening, so you would still need it for that. Also, Europe has a law that everything must be USB-C compatible to be sold in Europe. I guess my iPad is pretty old too because it has a lightning port  Lots of things still use a regular mini USB port, DH’s phone is the only thing we have with USB-C. Heck, I think the Samsung earphones we just bought him use the lightning port because he asks me to charge them on my side of the bed. |

Currently I have the 12 Pro and am planning to upgrade to either the 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max but not right away. The main reason I upgrade is to get a better camera as I no longer use a regular camera. Trying to convince myself that the larger Pro Max won't be too big and clunky to deal with. Pretty sure DH will end up upgrading his Apple watch as he has done that every time a new one comes out. People don’t like it because it is one more cable to handle if you already have an iPad, which uses USB-C. Although, older AirPods still use lightening, so you would still need it for that. I have a Mac and the keyboard, trackpad and mouse all have a lightning port. But there is an easy and relatively inexpensive fix for having both lightning and USB-C products. They sell USB C to Lightning Adapters and Lightning to USB C Adapter depending on your cable situation. |

I ordered two new watches to upgrade the old one’s my husband and I have. Mine has been acting up lately so I had already said I was upgrading my Series 5 and I decided to upgrade his Series 6 too so we could be on the same model. He really uses all the health items.

IMO they waited way too long to upgrade, bc I have an 11 and DD has a 12, so I just feel like we are going to pay for 4 phones one of these times.  I think we will get DH/DS either the 14 or 15 since their phones are so freaking old.

I tend to only upgrade when I really need to. Right now, I have an iPhone 10 and it works fine, so I'll hold onto it for awhile. Same for my Apple Watch, MacPro and iPad.

I got a 14 Pro Max just this year so I won’t likely be upgrading my phone anytime soon. But when we were at AT&T doing that the guy talked us into a program so we could upgrade anytime there’s a new model out, so who knows. Right now DD has a 12 Mini and DH has a 13 Pro Max that he got about six months before I got my 14. DD will probably need the upgrade soonest. What would make the most sense would probably be for DH to upgrade and give DD his 13.

I back up everything to the cloud; so, without pictures actually being stored on my phone, I don’t need that much memory, but that is also because I do most everything except for pictures and talking to other people on my iPad. Most people these days do everything on their phones and need more memory than I do. |

The thing is, with the cameras that these phones come with now, the file sizes can be HUGE. If you take a lot of high resolution photos or video, you’d burn through 128K storage in no time. Also, as the operating systems and apps get more and more complex, they too need more storage capacity. I am even debating about going up to 1TB of storage! I have 512 now, on an iPhone 12 ProMax, and I have to constantly be aware of my storage situation. I take lots of photos and videos, and I don’t use iCloud. I am hitting the limit about every 2-3 months. With the iPhone 15 taking 48 megapixel photos, that will eat up a lot of storage. I want to take photos and videos without worrying about my storage so much. |

I was really hoping my DS was going to get a new phone and give me his old one. He did that a couple of years ago for my birthday, but when I asked him about it, he said he was keeping his for another year. He just bought a house and all of their extra money has been going into remodeling.
I've got the 12 pro max and it still works fairly well. I'd love a new camera though. Decisions, decisions.

Yep! All four of us are getting new ones. I have the oldest, a 12 so my kid just preorded the new iphone 15 pro which I should receive in a few weeks. The rest are newer and he will order those in a few weeks.
One thing he said (and I'll be on the hook for all of these if he is incorrect lol) is that it will only cost about $200 each with our trade(??) and we will be paying over 3 years with Verizon.
He gets us some sort of discount from Verizon with his job but I don't think that has anything to do with Apple.
Anyway, time to buy a new case!

Well, I was looking at the new watch but doubt I get it. That double finger tap thing is stupid IMO, and after showing hubby how it works and trying it with my fingers, it kills my arthritis in my thumb. I would hope those features could be deactivated.

But seeing my contract is up, and I want to get another phone, I may as well buy the latest. The 5x zoom and the macro makes it worth it for me. I have a 12 Pro Max too. So my plan was either a 15, if the camera had enough improvements on it, or 16 for sure. 48 megapixels is a lot! I would need a 1TB model with the way I take photos and videos! I take a ton of photos and videos too. I rarely keep my photos on my phone for more than a week or two. I usually air drop them to my laptop iCloud straight away, which has 2TB storage. So luckily I don't need to worry too much about the storage on the phone. I'm heading off to the local shopping centre in a few minutes. I am going to drop into my phone provider and see if they have any 15s to play with. Or at least to get on the waiting list. |

Just watching someone on YouTube. He said if you have a 14, the upgrade is not worth it. If you have a 13, it is 50-50 on upgrading. If you have a 12 (or older) then you will definitely get a lot out of upgrading to the 15. He convinced me! 🤣 But, I have to decide what model now. I like the bigger size, but I like the features of the pro models. And FYI - The wait time for a 15Pro is now 3-4 weeks and up to 7 weeks for the Pro Max. Good thing I am not in a hurry. 😁 And I know I don’t need all the features of the ProMax, but I want that larger screen and 5x optical zoom.

My Watch is ollllldddd and I’m finally upgrading to the 9 specifically because of that. I was going to upgrade to something after the announcement but I kind of thought I’d go with the 8. I’m upgrading DH’s 13 Pro Max to the 15 Pro Max, and DS is getting his old phone. I’m on the fence about upgrading. I also have a 13 Pro Max and am tempted by the 15 Pro Max but not suuuuper tempted. Idk. |

Lots of things still use a regular mini USB port, DH’s phone is the only thing we have with USB-C. Heck, I think the Samsung earphones we just bought him use the lightning port because he asks me to charge them on my side of the bed.
