I have been on 6 Caribbean cruises, to Disney World at least 300 times, but have never in my 64 years been in fall weather with leaves changing. Also, never been in snow other than flurries. This thread got me wanting to hop on a plane and go somewhere to see the leaves change. I looked into the total cost of going to Boston with a day trip to Martha's Vineyard the first week of October and I can do it for about $2K. Ya'll know I have stage 4 cancer and I'm doing great. But, my life expectancy at time of diagnosis (last year) was 2 years - altho it looks like I'll exceed that . I feel like my pants are on fire and I've gotta go go go and hurry up and live as much life as I can before its too late. But all my friends and family are poopy heads who don't want to go anywhere, or they can't afford it. I am capable of traveling alone. I've done it before - one time I went on a 7 day cruise alone because my poopy headed friend backed out at the last minute. Who knows? I could live a long life and probably shouldn't spend the money. I could just sit here on my arse and let roots grow into my chair and leave the money to my kids. Or I can go out and do some bucket list things alone. What would you do? Cindy

Oh cindytred you must go and travel and do stuff! It's really unfortunate that you don't have any adventurous friends to go with but you absolutely must go and I'm sure you'll meet people and make new friends along the way

cindytred Go! I am looking at perhaps going to Boston in November because we've been talking about going and my brother's currently living there. Fall is our favorite season and it would be absolutely gorgeous in New England.

I have never been to the Grand Canyon or the northeast. We have a trip planned in fall of 2025 to visit New England in the autumn and I can't wait! I'm not sure if we will get to the Grand Canyon soon... I want to take my SO to Yellowstone, first. I have been (twice), but he hasn't.
I have also never been to Hawaii or Mexico. Both are on my bucket list.

I am sure there are many. I will have to think about it.
I have 4 more states to visit (Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Montana).
I have never been to a resort in Mexico, only driven to Ensenada.

Well, I have a problem where I NEED to see the beach, it restores me. But that does not leave any money for traveling anywhere else. But there are definitely places I would like to see. I'm also married to a man that prefers to stay at home ALL THE TIME.
My parents took me out west when we were young and I saw the Grand Canyon and several sites along the way. No desire to go back. I've been on 2 cruises, 2 trips to Disney, Seaworld, Discovery Cove to swim with dolphins, Jamaica, Vancouver (Canada), Houston & Galveston, Chicago, Wyoming, Orange Beach, Alabama and several trips to different parts of Florida.
Places I'd love to visit in no particular order: I have a niece who lives in Oregon. Would love to visit her and the sites in that area. Sedona, Arizona Aruba Iceland Hawaii Vegas Outer Banks California

Cindy If I were you, why leave them the money when you can leave them the memories? I’d plan the trip in way so I could go WITH my kids. Spend time with them now while you’re doing great. Make memories with them now that will last a lifetime for all of you. I’d be willing to bet they would rather have the memories, IMO. We have friends that own multiple weeks of timeshares in several states. They’re at/near 70 now and they have regularly taken along (and paid for) their son and his wife or their daughter and grandson (SIL passed away) to go on so many vacations, to so many places. If they don’t want to go where they own they trade and go somewhere else.

I've been to Louisiana, but not New Orleans and have always been scared off by the feedback that it's dirty - not sure how true that is Absolutely true. It's filthy, but there is so much New Orleans culture, the music, the food, the voodoo. Do not go to Bourbon Street. It's gross and touristy. We go to NO every year for Jazzfest and we love walking down the street and running into a jazz band or seeing local performers on Frenchman's Street. I even jumped into a hip-hop video when they invited the crowd to participate in a second-line parade after the performers. The weirdness of the place is part of its charm. Really Bourbon St is the only place we felt was gross and filthy. I will say the French quarter smells bad in the morning from the dumpsters put out for trash pickup. But that’s true of lots of cities.

cindytred if it were me, I’d definitely travel, and do a lot by myself. Boston and Martha’s Vineyard sounds fabulous. And I’d do Maine and the coast. If you want to come to SF I will show you around!

I live in So Cal and once or twice a year we drive to Sedona AZ. That route takes you very close to the Grand Canyon, which I have never seen! We keep saying we are going to stop, but just never have. It is an hour drive off of the main highway and it is just a big hole. Save yourself the trip. Now if one was to actually go down into the canyon and explore that would probably be fun. Driving an hour each way to spend ten minutes looking at the canyon is a waste of time.

cindytred Another one chiming in to say GO see the leaves! One of my greatest pleasures in life is kicking up fall leaves along a wooded path. Add in a visit to a cider mill for donuts and you've got an incredible fall experience. Don't forget to wear a cute, cozy sweater.

Being a Navy brat, we traveled all over but I've never been to NYC or the New England states.

New Orleans will have more creole dishes than cajun, but it's seriously some of the best food in the world. And I say that having lived/traveled all over the world. We have lived in NOLA twice (DD was born there) and while it is a beautiful city it does have its issues. Just don't go in the summertime! My 45th reunion was in July 2011. I told them they needed to have the 50th in April 2016 and they did! What a difference. I miss the food, my friends, the LSU Tigers and the culture of Louisiana but I don't miss the weather or bugs!

I have never been to Hawaii. The islands themselves don’t really interest me, but my dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, and I’d love to go to the memorial.

If you ever get the chance you should go, especially to see the memorial. DH and I went there on our honeymoon and neither one of us could really describe the profound solemnity of the place.
